Not gonna lie. I find this VERY cool

It's pretty exciting, OP. I'm waiting for the full video of the landing. The still shot from the Skycrane is amazing.

This is sooo cool!

On a stand-alone basis, these scientific achievements are exciting and I'll never get tired of seeing the progress of humanity.

For those who critique spending this money, they need to more fully understand the direct and indirect positive (economic) impact of these scientific efforts for life on earth.

I wonder who will claim the planet as their own (Asia, Russia, S. Arabia, U.S.)? Is it whoever colonizes it first with people?

by Anonymousreply 6February 23, 2021 3:32 PM

What a DUMP.

by Anonymousreply 7February 23, 2021 3:34 PM

The martians turned out all the lights and went underground. "Are they gone yet?"

by Anonymousreply 8February 23, 2021 3:40 PM

Those images are so clear. It really is amazing. To me, it looks like a remote desert here on earth...like around Afghanistan. I'm not into the space program, usually. This is very cool and the US should be proud. Take a bow..not too much to proud here now lately.

You are not alone, OP. Not by a long shot.

Those pics are incredible.

How much money did this project cost?

Why do we need it?

Seriously.

Early Cuyler: What did I teach you about Perseverance, young man?

Rusty Cuyler: That, “if at first you don't succeed, then it wasn't meant to be. It's just a waste of time, 'cause the Union’s just gonna take your money anyways, 'cause they jealous that we got an extra bone in our body that makes us smarter, but don't nobody in Science care to acknowledge that”...and “you were an unwanted pregnancy!”, and “you ruined my dirtbikin’ career!”, and “get outta my sight, you disgust me!” You talking ‘bout that one, Daddy?

Early: [sniffles with pride] And a son has done been imparted with the knowledge of a father. [beat] Now, what did I tell you about drinking underneath the age, huh?

Rusty: Uhh, you said, “if you can afford to bring back enough for me, then I don't care what you do.” And, “it's your body, you can kill it however you want to, ‘cause America's about freedom.”

Patience and Perseverance brought this photo for our reference.

It is very interesting. Yet also reminds how little humanity has proceeded in the universe. So much has happened in the last hundred years to make our lives easier yet we know so little what’s going on around this planet.

by Anonymousreply 37February 24, 2021 7:05 PM

The videos and images are so clear, it's like it was recorded locally. It feels like you're there. The moon landing, everything was so grainy...but that was an amazing feat at that time...not to take away from it.

by Anonymousreply 38February 24, 2021 7:40 PM

I am just watching two hour long document of building it. People working on the project are so wise smart and clever I can’t understand it. They are in a different level of wisdom.

I find it VERY cool too OP. I'm absolutely fascinated by what we are going to discover on Mars. It looks like it had life on it billions of years ago and then something changed and poof - all gone. The same thing with happen to Earth one day. Fascinating. There were seas of water in the past as have been dated by asteroid hits (more on land and less in water).

R39 - I watched bits of that and thought two things to myself -

1. Gee these people are all fucking genius.

2. These are people who really [bold]DO SOMETHING[/bold] with their lives. I suddenly felt as if I had wasted my paltry life and felt quite small and inconsequential - which most of us are.

by Anonymousreply 45March 6, 2021 1:21 AM

That's nice. Looks like Arizona.

by Anonymousreply 46March 6, 2021 1:26 AM

What I don't understand is the tens of thousands of people who would give anything to live the rest of their lives on that.

Surely after a few years the thrill would be gone.

by Anonymousreply 47March 6, 2021 1:29 AM

Where them Martians at???

by Anonymousreply 48March 6, 2021 1:38 AM

If you mean someday Earth will migrate fifty millions of miles further away from the warmth of the sun and at the same time lose two thirds of its mass, I'm not too sure you're correct.
