Impeachment won’t keep Trump from running again. Here’s a better way.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, passed in the aftermath of the Civil War, bars Trump from holding another federal office if he is found to have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the Constitution of the United States.

All it takes is a simple majority vote in both houses

I’m honestly not worried about him being elected again. Fine by me if he runs and sucks up all the oxygen from the other Republican candidates.

Hey! Let's do both.

There is no way we should set a precedent where a president incites a riot and does not face charges.

by Anonymousreply 201/12/2021

I don't think he'll survive another four years, honestly.

by Anonymousreply 301/12/2021

Here's an even better way. Charge him and anyone involved with conspiracy and felony murder

by Anonymousreply 401/12/2021

After impeachment if the Senate convicts him (2/3 votes) then they canvote on banning him from running for public office (simple majority).

by Anonymousreply 501/12/2021

Congress can still do this. It would be easy to get a majority. If they are worried about a majority in the Senate, just wait until after the president Erika inauguration when Kamala is VP
