Viennetta has returned to the U.S.! I always wanted to try one, the commercials made them look so elegant!
They were pretty good, but expensive. Seeing all the ads back then they looked massive, but were tiny when you took them out of the box. Also, I wonder how they will taste since the originals were made by Breyers and these are Good Humor.

When I was still buying them years ago they were one of the cheapest ice creams around. And it appears they still are.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 5, 2021 10:03 PM |
they look so chic, it’s the dialing a phone with pencil of ice cream.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 5, 2021 10:09 PM |
I hope it is available in the US South, since I saw it on UK TV I’ve been dying to try it.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 5, 2021 10:14 PM |
I remember the commercials but don’t know a single soul who actually ate it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 5, 2021 10:28 PM |
Drag Cream name.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 5, 2021 11:06 PM |
That new package is almost tacky enough to be Mexican candy. And if you think I'm being racist, just take a look at this:
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 5, 2021 11:19 PM |
i had the original back in the 90's. its like layers of ice cream with the chocolate shell between them. and it was small
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 5, 2021 11:43 PM |
I can tell you from experience going back 36 years that the last two slices taste as good as the first.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 5, 2021 11:48 PM |
Now they just need to bring back Hälsa shampoo.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 6, 2021 1:00 AM |
R11, I only used ‘Gee, your hair smells terrific’.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 6, 2021 1:08 AM |
2021 may just turn out ok after all.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 6, 2021 1:12 AM |
Countdown to the first person who names their daughter "Viennetta."
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 6, 2021 1:29 AM |
Rejoicing!
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 6, 2021 1:30 AM |
It looks like CRAP. Carvel ice cream cakes are FAR better.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 6, 2021 2:04 AM |
Viennetta style ice cream is good when made with real ice cream and good cookie/biisquit bits. The mass market one in France isn't awful but could be much better. Pity an Italian company doesn't market a sublime one.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 6, 2021 2:16 AM |
Will it taste the same?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 6, 2021 2:19 AM |
My eleven year old gayling self is very, very happy. But now? Fuck me. I'm on keto to fit into a Speedo by June!
Seriously, R19. So much of the time, formulas change, and it's almost never for the better.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 6, 2021 2:21 AM |
Can't wait to pick some up!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 6, 2021 3:43 AM |
[quote] i had the original back in the 90's. its like layers of ice cream with the chocolate shell between them. and it was small
Wow, you’re old. I’ve never met anyone who’s had it. I thought it was a myth.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 6, 2021 5:03 AM |
Now bring back Frusen Glädje.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 6, 2021 5:14 AM |
R20 is right, childhood favorites never taste the same. I wonder if it’s because our palates mature or because of shoddy ingredients? Still tempted to give it a try.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 6, 2021 5:18 AM |
[quote]...perfectly portioned for an entire family to share. (Promo copy in OP's linked article)
Low-key judgmental.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 6, 2021 5:22 AM |
Actually you're right, R24. It's both shoddy ingredients (that perhaps may have been shoddy to begin with), AND changing palates.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 6, 2021 5:23 AM |
R22, i guess i am old. i'll be turning 47 next month. Though i look 25.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 6, 2021 5:26 AM |
Oh! I hope I have a suitable occasion to serve one.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 6, 2021 5:44 AM |
I prefer a Friendlys' Jubilee roll.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 6, 2021 5:47 AM |
The way it works is that it’s partially melted/dented when you get it home. You pause, rest your hand on it and say, “Oh, damn.” And your friend looks and says, “We might as well eat it tonight.” And then you divide it in two before putting away groceries. That’s how you get rid of all evidence.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 6, 2021 7:11 AM |
I remember eating it with my family back in the 90s. Didn't try another until last year. There's also a toffee version (at least there is in Australia).
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 6, 2021 12:18 PM |
"Good Humor" tells me all that I need to know.

🎶 ALLELUIA ! 🎉 ALLELUIA 🎶
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 6, 2021 12:27 PM |
Viennetas are still licensed to Morinaga in Japan, so I had them a couple of times while I lived there (until about a year and a half ago).
Adult verdict: Fat Whore Disappointed.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 6, 2021 12:29 PM |
R39 "Friend" my ass. I need no "friend" in that scenario!
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 6, 2021 12:32 PM |
Ocado accidentally delivered me a mint Viennetta a couple of years ago. I served it at a retro themed party.
Fun for retro value but not great.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 6, 2021 12:33 PM |
Fuck yeah!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | January 6, 2021 1:23 PM |
They were scrumptious!
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 6, 2021 6:19 PM |
Do they sell these at the Hotel Sacher? I’ll be there next year.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 6, 2021 8:08 PM |
Mint sounds just revolting.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 7, 2021 3:59 AM |
R40, it's alright, the mint is not overpowering. At least not in the version sold here.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 7, 2021 5:12 PM |
That thing must be loaded with preservatives. It must affect the taste.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 8, 2021 3:57 AM |
OMG! I used to LOVE Viennetta. Buying new stretch pants as I type.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 8, 2021 4:36 AM |
If the new version doesn't pan out, I might have to try making my own.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 8, 2021 4:38 AM |
Has anyone seen them in stores yet? I check online pickup on my phone often, in hopes it comes in stock.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 12, 2021 3:41 AM |
I picture a slice of Viennetta served in a crystal Fancy Feast bowl. The fork rings against the crystal and Dataloungers come running like the pissy Fancy Feast cat.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 12, 2021 3:46 AM |
I remember the commercials for this when I was a kid and always seeing them in the supermarket when I would go with my mom. We bought it a couple of times and it was fine, but smaller than one would think and expensive.
Shortly after it was gone.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 12, 2021 3:59 AM |
Bumping this post: Has anyone seen Vienetta in stores yet? I am sad, and ready to shell cash on high-end stress eating. At-home stress eating. Like, putting on YouTube and eating the whole Vienetta stress eating.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 25, 2021 3:29 PM |
R9 So this is basically just chocolate chip ice cream?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 25, 2021 3:52 PM |
I truly hope R39 is joking.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 25, 2021 3:57 PM |
Please welcome to the stage: VIENNETTA FATFUCK

You need to start picketing... or organizing a letter writing campaign to senators!

Did you watch the video at R51? I want to lie down on that conveyor belt -- as long as I can get off before the chopping blade comes down.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 25, 2021 5:01 PM |
What flavors to they come in?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 25, 2021 5:04 PM |
A local Food 4 Less had some back in the 1990s when I was in college and I bought one, and all I remember is that it was small. Couldn't describe the taste of one if my life depended on it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | January 25, 2021 5:38 PM |
Which of you bitches would dare serve this at a dinner party???
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 25, 2021 5:45 PM |
I’m going to buy it and serve it with snack wells so it’s healthy!
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 25, 2021 10:27 PM |
I never had one, but definitely remember them.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | January 25, 2021 10:33 PM |
It’s new look doesn’t scream classy, to say the least.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 25, 2021 10:33 PM |
Right, R59 - those Snackwells are so low fat!
[But honestly, during the low fat, generally high carb and at times high processed sugar diet craze, I don't think obesity rates were any worse. Remember when "carbo* loading" was a thing. Pasta was a super food, never thought to be bad in any amount."
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 25, 2021 10:37 PM |
It looks like it would taste like a standard Good Humor ice cream bar in cake form.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 25, 2021 10:38 PM |
They've never gone away here in the UK.
They've been like £1 for years.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 25, 2021 10:43 PM |
R8, I used to live in SoCal and would cross the border frequently. I once brought back several bags of Mexican Lays "Hot Dog Flavored Potato Chips" from Ensenada.
The bag had the statue of liberty clutching a giant weiner instead of the book/tablet. It was so camp. They sorted of tasted like ketchup and hot dog water. They were gross, but as Lays says, no one (especially a FAT WHORE) can east just one!
