My niece says she’s a lesbian

She’s 10.

Did you know you were gay that early? Do I believe her or wait to see what happens as she goes through puberty?

by Anonymousreply 51January 16, 2021 3:01 AM

[quote] My niece says she’s a lesbian

No, she didn't.

[quote] She’s 10.

No, she's not.

by Anonymousreply 1January 1, 2021 3:57 AM

I knew I was gay at 10, but didn't have the words or courage to speak up. Good for your niece and hope she has support. If, after a few years, she wants to adjust her preference, so be it. It's her life.

OP, it could be worse. My niece is an in-your-face Karen. Wanna trade?

by Anonymousreply 2January 1, 2021 4:00 AM

I knew I was at 6.

by Anonymousreply 3January 1, 2021 4:03 AM

Rather delayed, yes?

In poor conditions, your neighbors and the parents of other children tell you you’re gay/lesbian by the age of five.

by Anonymousreply 4January 1, 2021 4:04 AM

I knew when I was 13. When I knew pp really got me going and vaginas otherwise, I knew.

by Anonymousreply 5January 1, 2021 4:30 AM

I thought I was a straight man, but I'm actually a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 6January 1, 2021 4:38 AM

Believe her. Stay the fuck out of it. If she changes her mind — whatever.

My son knew when he was ten. I wasn’t horrible, just perversely unaware of my unconscious internalized homophobia. But that was 20 years ago.

Best parenting advice: do nothing, say nothing, just love and stay the fuck out of the way.

OP ripped this thread idea straight from the Busy Phillips one

by Anonymousreply 8January 1, 2021 4:41 AM

I found my parents' porn magazines when I was five. I started to touch and lick every picture of a penis in it. It took me a while to notice there were women standing right there next to the guys.

Sucked my first dick at 13 and haven't looked back ever since.

Most of OP's threads are from Reddit.

by Anonymousreply 10January 1, 2021 4:47 AM

I think most people know long before age 10.

Lezzie? Poor thing

by Anonymousreply 13January 5, 2021 3:14 AM

Did you make her watch the puppy episode?

by Anonymousreply 14January 5, 2021 3:16 AM

I doubt the OP's niece (if indeed she exists at all) even knows what a lesbian is.

by Anonymousreply 15January 5, 2021 3:18 AM

I knew at 12

by Anonymousreply 16January 5, 2021 3:18 AM

I knew the truth at 17.

by Anonymousreply 17January 5, 2021 3:25 AM

Does she get excited when she sees a u-haul? That's a dead giveaway.

by Anonymousreply 18January 5, 2021 3:32 AM

No idea if OP is an EST, but 10 year olds nowadays know all about GLB and T. All they need is tiktok. And while not all 10 year olds know their sexuality, plenty know if the typical middle school boy or girl crushing works for them or doesn't.

by Anonymousreply 19January 5, 2021 3:38 AM

Are you sure she's not trans?

by Anonymousreply 20January 5, 2021 3:46 AM

I knew but I didn't know if that makes any sense. Like we used to go swimming every week at the local equivalent of the YMCA and even as young as 6 I'd get an elated and titillated feeling seeing naked hairy men.

by Anonymousreply 21January 5, 2021 4:07 AM

Lesbian conversion therapy involves a locked car, a hot day, and Cheryl in the back seat.

by Anonymousreply 22January 5, 2021 4:31 AM

A friend’s 10 year old daughter said she was pansexual. She asked her if she knew what that meant. The kid said “it means you like boys and girls”. When my friend asked her if she meant boyfriend/girlfriend she said “no I have friends that are boys and friends that are girls” in other words she didn’t know what it meant she picked up the word from a kid at school.

by Anonymousreply 23January 5, 2021 5:03 AM

OP, I knew I was gay, and admitted to myself I was gay, at 10-and-a-half. I remember it well. Between ten and ten-and-a-half I thought I might be "partly gay", but by ten-and-a-half, I knew there was no 'partly' about it.

I didn't tell anyone else until I turned 18. It was the late 70s to early 80s. I came out just as AIDS Hysteria was hitting its peak. So you know. Not fun.

But yes, kids that young can know, and if they say they are, listen to them and believe them, and don't try and talk them out of it or deny it. If they're telling you, they've already known for a while, and weighed their options before saying anything. Trust me.

by Anonymousreply 24January 5, 2021 5:15 AM

Maybe she's a lug (lesbian until graduation)

by Anonymousreply 25January 15, 2021 5:55 PM

I knew at age 8. I was in the school library and I heard one guy call another guy "a fairy" only he didn't know what that was. It was defined for him and I knew by that description that it applied to me as well.

by Anonymousreply 26January 15, 2021 6:09 PM

"Do I believe her or wait to see what happens as she goes through puberty?"

WHAT are you going to do when you start "believing her"? Slap it out of her?

I think you're full of shit, OP, but if this is true, the correct response is, "really?" THE END.

by Anonymousreply 27January 15, 2021 6:18 PM

R23 my niece is 12 and also just came out as pansexual. I don't know what the difference between pan and bisexual though maybe pan includes non-binary folks? I think its more of a trend than anything. There were a ton of bi girls when I was in high school and college, and they always marry men. And then have the audacity to claim to be in a queer marriage! A sick and boring life indeed!

by Anonymousreply 28January 15, 2021 6:29 PM

Are you sure she doesn’t mean librarian?

by Anonymousreply 29January 15, 2021 6:32 PM

I definitely knew something was different by 10, but understood when I was 13. I really believe if the internet was available when I was 10, I would have figured it out. So much more information is discreetly and readily available for today's youth.

by Anonymousreply 30January 15, 2021 6:33 PM

I knew I was homo at 4 yrs old. I wanted to marry my dads feet. I spent all of my time sucking his toes.

by Anonymousreply 31January 15, 2021 6:35 PM

I knew I liked boys as early as Kindergarten. I couldn't articulate these feelings and I couldn;t comprehend why, but men made me excited. By 10 I knew what I wanted. Some people are very aware of their feelings. Op, be happy she's just lesbian and not a nephew that wants to transition from MtF during these critical hormonal periods.

by Anonymousreply 32January 15, 2021 6:45 PM

My niece came out to me at 15 and she is now 39 and has been on/off with the whole thing! I cant keep up, quite honestly. She almost married a guy in London and they broke up and she then dated a female cop. I stay out of it and just go "uh huh!"

by Anonymousreply 33January 15, 2021 6:48 PM

R33 She sounds bisexual

by Anonymousreply 34January 15, 2021 7:43 PM

R28 Why a boring life?

by Anonymousreply 35January 15, 2021 7:50 PM

R33 Came out as what?

by Anonymousreply 36January 15, 2021 7:51 PM

R31 One of the most disgusting things I ever heard.

by Anonymousreply 37January 15, 2021 7:51 PM

Tell her it’s only a phase and that she just hasn’t met the right guy yet.

by Anonymousreply 38January 15, 2021 7:53 PM

R38 that's what they should tell little straight boys!

by Anonymousreply 39January 15, 2021 8:13 PM

Are you sure she didn’t say she’s Lebanese?

by Anonymousreply 40January 15, 2021 8:15 PM

R36 Lesbian

by Anonymousreply 41January 15, 2021 8:16 PM

If she hasn’t won a slip and fall lawsuit then she ISN'T a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 42January 15, 2021 8:18 PM

I knew I was attracted to my same sex before I even knew such a thing was possible. I thought I must be the only one because I had never heard of such a thing. So that sort of blows apart the theory that anyone is turned gay by outside influences. Pun intended.

by Anonymousreply 43January 15, 2021 9:13 PM

R38, to a TEN YEAR OLD? You're a perv.

by Anonymousreply 44January 15, 2021 9:34 PM

You never no with women. Gay one moment, bi the next, few years later straight, then asexual... Women's sexuality is very fluid. I never trust them when they say they are this or that.

by Anonymousreply 45January 16, 2021 12:27 AM

Tell me about it, R45

by Anonymousreply 46January 16, 2021 12:29 AM

R46 Did Anne wver said she is gay? Or people just assumed cause she was dating a woman?

by Anonymousreply 47January 16, 2021 12:31 AM

Are you sure she's not a Liberal?

by Anonymousreply 48January 16, 2021 12:32 AM

R1, what an unnecessary cunt response.

Gay begins at conception. Your orientation is a full-fledged condition and state of being. Sexuality is definite and permanent and an unchangeable feature of you, as an individual organism.

Even gay animals look distinctly gay. One's sexuality is obvious except to people that are too stupid and simple to observe it.
