List of Terms Democrats Need To Change
We are masters of using terminology that is easily distorted, misunderstood and turned against us.
I'll give three examples below, I am sure there are more. Please suggest some alternatives:
[bold] Defund The Police [/bold]
WHAT WE MEAN: Reform the police force and shift some responsibilities to social services so police can focus on preventing crime, work to eliminate systemic racism.
WHAT THEY HEAR: Abolish the police, close police stations, reduce the number of officers to a point where crime runs rampant
[bold] Medicare For All[/bold]
WHAT WE MEAN: Universal health care for all Americans of the sort found in every other Western country
WHAT THEY HEAR: Inferior health care designed for poor people (mixing up "Medicaid" and "Medicare") that will be forced on everyone and an end to being able to see my current doctors; all doctors forced to work for aforementioned hostile low-budget system designed for poor people.
[bold] Democratic Socialist[/bold]
WHAT WE MEAN: Someone who wants to see more government-sponsored social services of the sort found in capitalist countries like Denmark and New Zealand.
WHAT THEY HEAR: Communism and Marxism of the sort found in Venezuela, Cuba and other dictatorships, government control of everything, an end to capitalism.

OP, I don’t think that we have the best messaging, BUT have you ever noticed that it doesn’t matter what we say, the Republicans will spin it into something completely different, regardless?

You meant all of those things literally at first, and were shocked to find out the working and middle classes will never support them.
The solution to that rejection is not a pathetic rebranding attempt.
You should all seek out contact with people you disagree with politically, so you can have an accurate view of the world around you.

Republicans really have us beat on this front.
I mean, on its face, "Right to Work" is a great slogan.

R4, “Arbeit macht frei” is an equally great slogan. For the majority of Republicans.

The terms are not the problem. The delivery is. Dems are the epitome of tone deaf, will have a much better chance when they lose the hectoring zeal, the arrogant assumption, the fascist dictation and, most importantly, the blatant hypocrisy.

R4 illustrates what is so wrong with Dems.

Chuck Schumer needs to walk down Fifth Avenue naked with a bullhorn shouting what the Dems really mean by defund the police, medicare for all, etc. Otherwise, the message has been fully defined for many years to come and voters are not buying the product.

R7 They'd laugh at his dick and call him a liar.

I agree with OP and R1 for once

Dems think pandering to trannies and giving free tampons is what the world needs and wants. Talk about niche marketing!

OP-Most people (including Republicans!) support Medicare for All, so I don't think it needs to be rebranded.

False, and the first comment in the linked thread explains one of the reasons why.

Dems need to lay low on the immigration issue and the LGBTQ issue. Freepers believe that these are our ultimate covert agenda. And it just has little appeal to the middle and working class. Of course it's good to champion them, but maybe fly more under the raydar.

You are proving my point R12
Most people support "Universal Health Care" which sounds far more upscale and desirable.
When you call it "Medicare for All" is when they start thinking "Doctors for People on Welfare"
