UK Teen Accused of Murdering 15 Year Old for Threat to Reveal Their Intimate Relationship

[QUOTE]Matthew Mason, then aged 18, is said to have paid his 15 year old victim, Alex Rodda, more than $2,700 over a three-week period following an alleged threat to reveal their relationship if the payments stopped.

Nobody deserved to die, but blackmailing someone is a risky game. He got greedy and paid for it.

by Anonymousreply 2December 9, 2020 12:56 AM

Why waste one's time on someone past their sell by date?

[QUOTE] The murderer is none too attractive.

In prison, he’ll be a 7.

by Anonymousreply 4December 9, 2020 1:00 AM

I can't condone murder, but I know the feeling of being blackmailed over my sexual activity. I once saw the guy that was threatening to tell my father we'd had sex in my fathers office, and I strongly thought of pushing him in front of an oncoming subway train. I didn't, but I really wanted to.

by Anonymousreply 5December 9, 2020 1:00 AM

Did you also salt some guys lawn last night who ignored you R5?

I think there's a difference between being blackmailed and being ignored.

by Anonymousreply 8December 9, 2020 1:05 AM

I’m shocked that DL seems to be siding with the closeted murderer thus far.

He's better looking, for one.

by Anonymousreply 20December 9, 2020 1:23 AM

Underage and blackmailing in a small town and then you go out to a wood at dark with the person you are trying to blackmail. I feel it is a horrible story. On the other hand what does a closeted guy who possibly found out the guy he is being blackmailed by is under 16.?

He should go to jail for sure but let’s not pretend the victim was not playing with fire . Which is why you should never to touch an underage person !!

The victim it was tragic just tragic

Are you kidding me? The naturally occurring result would be him getting caught on tape in a sting operation by the police after the blackmail victim went to the cops to report the extortion and then the 15 year old getting prosecuted, NOT murdering the kid. What are you, nuts? And we don’t even know if that’s actually what happened. This is his defense in a trial.

by Anonymousreply 28December 9, 2020 2:25 AM

When blackmailing, one of the possible expected results is being killed by the victim. It's a dangerous crime.

by Anonymousreply 29December 9, 2020 2:35 AM

I dont know the laws in the UK but here in the us if a 15 year old told police and 18 year old was having sex with him it would be off to jail with the 18 year old and branded a sex offender and pedophile for life . What the 18 year old should have done was film the victim lustily sucking his dick and joyously getting fucked then told him "Go ahead and Ill show everybody this tape" .

by Anonymousreply 30December 9, 2020 2:50 AM

R30 I'm not certain but here in Canada, or at least this province, it works differently.

Something like.

10 - nope

11 - nope

12 - 13

13 - 12 to 14

14 - 13 to 17

15 - 14 to 18 (so right borderline)

16 - 14 to anything (but anyone in position of authority or potential exploitation can be charged)

17 - 14 to anything (same as above)

18 - 15 to anything (but college age tends to mean a more protective eye by the system)

19 - 16 to anything (but same as above)

20 - 16 to anything (and really should be the last year they should be giving even a slight consideration to doing anything to a 16-17 year old; aka they're now losing social perception of being so young)

But if the 18 filmed the 15 year old and shared it, that would be considered distributing child pornography. The sex would be allowed - though parents allowed to try to keep the 18 away - but sharing media would not.

What are age of consent laws in the UK like? Is it considered illegal if one person is just a few years younger than the other person?

by Anonymousreply 44December 10, 2020 10:31 PM

R2 I disagree. Some people do deserve to die, and this kid did. If someone were blackmailing me, the only thing that would keep me from murder is the absolute certainty that I’d get caught. And I would get caught so murder is self defeating, but Morally, it’s like killing someone in self defense or war. I’ll tell you what’s more: did you ever watch those Dominic Dunn Power Privilege and Justice shows? Some, not all, but some of the victims stunk. They were horrible people who deserved to die.

by Anonymousreply 45December 10, 2020 11:46 PM

R45, some people think would-be murderers like you deserve to die

by Anonymousreply 46December 10, 2020 11:57 PM

The victim was one dumb queen, sorry. Sure, in discussing it rationally the crime certainly didn’t warrant the punishment. But blackmail is reckless and sociopathic; you’re poking and provoking dark, unpredictable variables and outcomes, even though it might seem like you have all the leverage. This kid went for it hard in that capacity. Given that and the other facts, this was a perfectly predictable outcome.

by Anonymousreply 47December 11, 2020 12:14 AM

R47, killing someone because you're too closeted to accept who you are isn't acceptable. You can't blackmail someone who is out.

by Anonymousreply 48December 11, 2020 12:18 AM

“killing someone because you're too closeted to accept who you are isn't acceptable.”

Oh I agree100%. I said it was “predictable” - not “acceptable.”

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2020 12:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2020 3:10 AM

How sad. The kid was 15 and immature. A gay kid who was prob blackmailing the guy to keep him in his life, pay attention to him, not just for money. Either way, he did not deserve to die. Equally sad that the 18 year old felt he had to kill someone to keep his "secret" and not be jailed. He was a legal adult and should have never messed with a 15 yo. He deserves jail.

A friend Alex Rodda is giving evidence, Georgina Wiseman, 19.

She tells jurors: “I’ve known him since school - we were like brother and sister.”

Mr Unsworth QC asks her: “Was that friendship borne out of the fact he was being bullied a lot, you took him under your wing and cared for him?”

“Yes,” Ms Wiseman says.

She tells the court Alex was being bullied because he was openly gay.

Ms Wiseman says Alex told her he had received an ‘explicit photo’ from Mr Mason on Snapchat.

She said she was in the same class as Mr Mason at school, but they weren’t friends.

“He said he had a conversation with Matt on social media but not in person,” Ms Wiseman tells the court.

She confirmed Alex told her of his sexual relationship with Mr Mason.

“He said Matt offered him an accumulation of money over time, totting up to £400, for him to keep quiet about their relationship,” she said.

She confirmed Alex said Mr Mason wanted to keep their relationship a secret as he had a girlfriend and he ‘cheated on her a lot’.

“Alex said Matt had blocked him on Snapchat as he was concerned his girlfriend would find out, but they continued speaking on Facebook.,” Ms Wiseman said.

The witness explains how she and a few of Alex’s friends spoke to him about the situation on November 23.

Ms Wiseman tells the jury: “He said he sent Matt a text where he threatened to reveal their relationship if he didn’t give him the money.

“Matt said he could get it by the end of the day, but would be later. Alex said he threatened him with the sex offender register.

“He was young and money to a 15-year-old is a big difference to a working adult.

“He was naive. He looked for the good in everyone and I think he paid for it. I think he saw it as a game, a relationship he just didn’t understand. I don’t think he understood the concept of what was going on.”

Ms Wiseman said Alex’s mother Lisa Rodda had called her as she thought Alex was at her house.

I'm older than them but when I see a (legal) guy who looks like Alex on the apps, I immediately block. Body modification to any great degree immediately makes me think that the person is unstable. Exactly, R68. If it was me, the story would’ve went more like:

[QUOTE]Alex told me that it started because Alex told OP’s girlfriend that they had slept together. Alex said to OP: ‘I’ll tell her I was lying if you transfer money to me’ but OP responded: ‘I don’t give a shit if she knows. I’m bi. My God are you 12? The most common outcome of blackmail is indeed death. If people had the guts to go to the police, they wouldn't have paid the extortion to begin with. His fate was a very logical step of a fem queen thinking he can outsmart a closet case. You could see from space that at least a beating was in the works.

by Anonymousreply 73December 15, 2020 4:13 AM

Grifting bottom bitch had it coming. If not this guy the next!

by Anonymousreply 74December 15, 2020 4:16 AM

Yeah he gave a shit, R72, because he was a closeted coward. If he was out, or used this as an opportunity to come out and get past his inner demons, there would be no extortion and he wouldn’t have felt the need to commit murder. That was my point. I was also bi in high school with girlfriends and wouldn’t have given two shits if one of the numerous guys I was secretly fucking dropped a dime on me. Certainly not enough to let them extort money from me.

by Anonymousreply 75December 15, 2020 4:17 AM

That kids perm and hips were the biggest tragedy here, 15 years old blackmailing whores don't grow up to become useful members of society.

by Anonymousreply 77December 15, 2020 4:21 AM

[Quote] because he was a closeted coward. If he was out, or used this as an opportunity to come out and get past his inner demons, there would be no extortion and he wouldn’t have felt the need to commit murder.

And would Alex have moved on to the next closet case? The closet case sugar baby would have met the wrong one if it didn't turn out to be Mason.

by Anonymousreply 79December 15, 2020 4:33 AM

Darwin Awards for the stupidest teen sociopath out there.

[quote] The jurors were told that when one friend questioned Alex what he would do if Mason didn't continue to pay, Alex is said to have replied: 'Will tell the fed and get him on sex offenders.'

Not only was the fem queen blackmailing his boyfriend whom he knew was in a relationship with a woman, he was willing to report the guy as a sex offender if he didn't abide to his desires. To top that, he willingly went with him to the woods where he was finally put to rest.

People tend to think psychopaths and sociopaths are smart, but the truth is the only thing they share is the lack of empathy, they can be smart or beyond stupid as this moronic sociopathic teenager shows us.

It's funny to see what types of members here side with the sociopath blackmailer as opposed to the sociopath murderer. It's interesting. I think they're both stupid and the outcome is just pure irony.

I guess this kid is as stupid as that actually cute Jewish boy from the OC no one talks about anymore. Wasn't the situation kind of similar?

If the 18 year old’s goal was to make sure no one found out that he was gay, what were his options? Pay the blackmail, murder the blackmailer... anything else? If he would have exposed the blackmailer, he would have also exposed himself. Trying to think what my 18 year old self would do, especially if I feared coming out would lead to abandonment by my family and friends. I wouldn’t murder anyone, but I don’t know what I would do to solve my problem. It’s shitty all the way around.

by Anonymousreply 94December 20, 2020 1:12 AM

I personally wouldn't murder, but I'd beat the shit out of him. Actually I wouldn't associate myself with this type of gay (the victim), because lets face it a guy that blackmails and brags about it to his friends like this fem boy did, is the type of gay you can see from miles away he's trash. I bet he behaved like a mean girl, with catty comments etc, you should always steer clear of this type of person, my parents taught me this when I was a teen.

Yes R95 but in a sea of closeted mascbros where you’re A) never entirely sure if they’re down to fuck and B) you’re afraid of revealing yourself to the wrong guy, this type of teen can be exhilarating. To the killer, it was prob like he came from another planet. Alex is the type who will walk up to you, grab your junk and ask if you want a blowjob. As a former closeted mascbro (and now top), the assertiveness and hypersexuality of these boys can be euphoric. All they want is dick, and they cut right to the chase.

by Anonymousreply 97December 20, 2020 10:22 AM

The Feds? English people don’t speak like that. Feds is American slang , a 15 year old wouldn’t use that .

by Anonymousreply 98December 20, 2020 10:32 AM

Very true R98.

As for the crime.. the whole “kiss and tell” tactic isn’t too uncommon for teens that age, but “blackmail or tell” is something of a whole different level.

Still, the 15-year old didn’t deserve to be strangled in a soggy field. A slap on the wrist and some community service would’ve done the trick.

It’s sad.

by Anonymousreply 99December 20, 2020 11:42 AM

[quote]What are age of consent laws in the UK like? Is it considered illegal if one person is just a few years younger than the other person?

I don't think they have the wriggle room they have in some parts of Europe. When the age of consent for gay men was still 18, there was a case of a pair where one was 18 and the other 16 (looked older than his partner) and lied about his age. The younger gay's estranged family found out and told the police who arrested the 18 year old. He ended up on the sex offender's register and that is for life. His employment prospects took a steep nosedive after that.

by Anonymousreply 100December 20, 2020 12:34 PM

They were both deplorable. To think, that tragic queen could have gone on to an illustrious career of posting on DL as the next a or Janbot.

The killer will have a better selection of dick and ass in the clink, where everyone is on the DL anyhow. I'd say it's a win-win for him.

Too bad, the blackmailer would have been more popular in prison.

by Anonymousreply 105December 20, 2020 5:06 PM

[quote] The proper punishment for blackmail isn’t being bludgeoned to death with a monkey wrench.

You’re right. A tire iron is much more effective.

by Anonymousreply 106December 20, 2020 5:17 PM

[quote] This kid went for it hard in that capacity.

That’s what started this whole sordid affair.

by Anonymousreply 107December 20, 2020 5:18 PM

Says the Bible, R103. Thou shalt not kill.

by Anonymousreply 108December 21, 2020 2:04 AM

R108 He was just punishing the other guy for being an abomination, what?

by Anonymousreply 109December 21, 2020 2:06 AM

This story demonstrates why DL guys tend to seek out other DL guys.

by Anonymousreply 110December 21, 2020 2:13 AM

But other DL guys aren’t as good in bed as the openly gay boys like Alex.

by Anonymousreply 111December 21, 2020 2:26 AM

Hongry is hongry, hon.

by Anonymousreply 112December 21, 2020 2:35 AM

I‘ll be flamed for this, but I agree with R97 — there is something extremely tantalising and arousing about the kind of gay guys Alex was.

No, I wouldn’t hook up with an underaged nymphomaniac, but I get why men can be drawn to boys like Alex.

[quote]R104 Cause and effect . If Miss Thing hadnt been a scheming little cunt,he wouldnt be dead . Why do people not seem to understand anymore the simple term of cause and effect ?

I’m afraid I have to agree.

The filthy little bit of gash was hoisted by his own petard... or some similar saying.

by Anonymousreply 114December 22, 2020 5:14 AM

This whole sad affair underlines the isolation some gay people go through even in a developed country during the 2010s. The murderer clearly saw no light at the end of the tunnel. I wonder what the victim saw as the end point of his blackmail. I think he saw his (under)age as a checkmate. It didn't prove to be, of course.

by Anonymousreply 115December 22, 2020 5:22 AM

[quote]R50 Except people are blackmailed every day and 99 times out of 100, it doesn't lead to murder.

Where do these statistics come from?

by Anonymousreply 116December 22, 2020 6:22 AM

There can be a 100 people in a room but just 1...

by Anonymousreply 117December 22, 2020 6:27 AM

"Where do these statistics come from?"

Where are the statistics proving that blackmail usually leads to murder?

[quote]“He said that Matt didn’t want anyone to know he was gay because he was in the Young Farmers and stuff. .He didn’t want his family to know.

Bullshit you can tell they are both gay from their photos.

by Anonymousreply 119December 22, 2020 5:12 PM

Pinging doesn't make coming to terms with one's sexuality any easier.

by Anonymousreply 120December 22, 2020 11:30 PM

It’s all sordid and horrible.

by Anonymousreply 121December 24, 2020 4:21 PM

r98, the term "Feds" is actually used with surprising frequency by a certain type of UK teen. The Jamaican Yardies began the trend of referring to the police as "Feds", and there was a court case where some UK jihadis's texts were revealed and they referred to the police as "Feds" as well.

It makes no sense that they use the term, but it's not at all unheard of in the UK among certain groups, especially gangs who are aping American rappers' terminology.

by Anonymousreply 122December 24, 2020 6:04 PM

I don't know how the men of the UK bottom, eating beans for breakfast and spotted dick for lunch. Their holes are danger zones and their teeth are like accepting a blowjob from a wood chipper. I've met a lot of queens from the UK but I don't know how ANY of them get it on!

Updates?

by Anonymousreply 124January 5, 2021 12:50 AM

" I think they're both stupid and the outcome is just pure irony."

OMG! Alanis! How are you? I loved you on that cartoon last night.

Wow, American sites are picking up on this now. How soon until it's a netflix series?

[quote] Yeah he gave a shit, [R72], because he was a closeted coward. If he was out, or used this as an opportunity to come out and get past his inner demons

Please dispense with your professional homo standard that everyone must be out regardless of the consequences to their life. We're talking about an 18 year old here.

by Anonymousreply 133January 11, 2021 5:45 PM

^should have been addressed to R75

by Anonymousreply 134January 11, 2021 5:51 PM

Guilty?

Yes.

First of bad taste, and then of being caught for an understandable response to blackmail.

ALL blackmailers deserve this end.

by Anonymousreply 135January 11, 2021 6:12 PM

r135, you can't blackmail someone who isn't a lying closet case. All he had to do to end the blackmail was......come out. He chose to be a liar.

by Anonymousreply 136January 11, 2021 6:14 PM

"We're talking about an 18 year old here."

And the victim was even younger but people like r135 think he deserved to be murdered

by Anonymousreply 137January 11, 2021 6:14 PM

[R98] Teenagers referring to the Police as 'the Feds' is very common in England now. Unfortunately.

He should have just fucked the kid's ass really well and then threatened to withhold the D if the kid didn't keep his mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 140February 2, 2021 12:23 PM

He'll be getting a lot of D in prison

by Anonymousreply 141February 2, 2021 4:45 PM

[QUOTE] He should have just fucked the kid's ass really well and then threatened to withhold the D if the kid didn't keep his mouth shut.

That’s what I would’ve done. But this lad didn’t yet know how to handle his business like a true top, and this is the outcome.

Now those big boys in the pen are going to teach him how to be a true bottom.
