Read this portrait of Murray Moss, who closed his iconic shop and moved to Connecticut. I love the house! I find it fascinating where people move after years of living in NYC, usually it’s somewhere with more space.
Lucy did it first.

Fort Lauderdale is full of fat old whores. There’s a reason they call it Cialis Beach.

The hardware store: Glen or Glenda?

Why was the store iconic.

Nice house. Super-tasteful, as I'd expect from the owner of Moss.
But I'll never understand moving out of NYC and into a house at retirement age—at a time when your mobility declines, you have to worry about maintenance etc. and drive everywhere.

Usually somewhere with more space, but not always.

I should have added Palm Springs in the poll, let’s just group that with Los Angeles. Everyone in LA runs out of money and ends up retiring in Palm Springs anyway.

I’m amazed at how many gays want to move to a red state shithole like Texas.

I second r5. The city is perfect for old age if you have the money (which these two clearly do). Everything is at your disposal and easy to get to: cultural events, doctors, grocery stores, etc.
I have a feeling that when one of them dies, the other will hightail it’s back to nyc.

R5 Isolating yourself in your later years is ot the smartest thing. I agree

What's Moss? An art gallery? These are rich queens. The article was very H&G, the little I could Wade into

I'm laughing at how much they must stand out in their all black get ups in an academic town like Hamden (lots of Yale faculty live there)

Beautiful and interesting house. I found a somewhat similar Colonial Revival once in Pennsylvania but ended up with another; it had the same feel, only flipped in orientation: austere on the exterior and rich in very specific regional vernacular details on the interior, an architect's own house.
I think most people who move from NYC look at prices and decide to spread out a bit.

R5, that's what illegals are for.

We want more gays to move to red states like Texas. We always need to keep the electoral college in mind.

This trend is turning the town I grew up in into a 'gentrified' area. Although not sure how you gentrify an almost all white, old money wasps nest.

2 nelly queens move to CT... to rearrange cans of food at the supermarket. How exciting!!

R18, maybe some successful blacks, hispanics/latinos, muslims, and both eastern and western asians are moving in.
White people aren't the only people who can improve a neighborhood, you know.
