Is this holiday gift adorbs squee or tacky?

It's for my sister, who is somewhat of a suburban Frau. She collects snowmen. It's Thomas Kinkade, whose company apparently makes lots of wintery things.

"This molded crystal snowman inspired by renowned holiday artist Thomas Kinkade’s original artwork displays a twinkling winter scene encircled by a miniature moving train. A three-dimensional, handpainted winter tableau inside the snowman depicts snowcapped Victorian homes with illuminated windows, an “icy” pond, and holiday revelers in rich detail. A five-car train circles the snow-covered base and the snowman is trimmed with a top hat, silvery scarf and mittens, and a 19th century-styled lantern. A plaque on the base bears the title “Thomas Kinkade White Christmas.” Includes a numbered certificate of authenticity. Requires three AA batteries. 12" H x 7 1/2" Diam. (5 lbs.)"

All holiday decorations are tacky

by Anonymousreply 2November 23, 2020 3:45 PM

Batteries?

Tacky.

by Anonymousreply 3November 23, 2020 3:46 PM

I think it’s kinda tacky. However I’m not the target audience. I’m thinking a snowman collecting, suburban frau, sister to a DL gay might think it’s awesome.

by Anonymousreply 4November 23, 2020 3:46 PM

I predict it will be re-gifted next year or show up in a Christmas 'white elephant swap.'

by Anonymousreply 5November 23, 2020 3:47 PM

It's cute but tacky.

by Anonymousreply 6November 23, 2020 3:49 PM

Tacky

by Anonymousreply 7November 23, 2020 3:51 PM

It's too much. It's the turducken of decorations.

Try a snowman apron or set of towels.

by Anonymousreply 8November 23, 2020 3:55 PM

Since she collects snowmen she will love this. A part of me that used to love sparkly things as a gayling is enchanted by this awesome monstrosity.

by Anonymousreply 9November 23, 2020 3:59 PM

I find it somewhat nauseating and I doubt even a burb frau would like it.

by Anonymousreply 10November 23, 2020 4:21 PM

Are you sure its Kincade? The ad says "inspired" by Kincade.

by Anonymousreply 11November 23, 2020 4:27 PM

Tommy barf.

by Anonymousreply 12November 23, 2020 5:02 PM

r11 well, he's been dead since 2012, so I assume it's based on some of his previous drawings and things, like a lot of his company's stuff.

by Anonymousreply 13November 23, 2020 5:15 PM

I think it's cute!

But then again, I'm a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 14November 23, 2020 5:17 PM

Oh wow grandma, you shouldn’t have! No really you shouldn’t!

by Anonymousreply 15November 23, 2020 5:18 PM

That’s a whole lot of money to spend on a whole lot of nothing.

by Anonymousreply 16November 23, 2020 5:28 PM

"Inspired" is always a red flag.

by Anonymousreply 17November 23, 2020 5:33 PM

Tacky

by Anonymousreply 18November 23, 2020 5:40 PM

Thomas Kinkade is the embodiment of everything wrong with the worst art that glorifies white heterosexual protestant Americana. Mediocre technique combined with nauseating sentimentality.

by Anonymousreply 19November 23, 2020 5:49 PM

FF for using the word ‘squee’ Are you retarded?

by Anonymousreply 20November 23, 2020 5:52 PM

Lenox.com has a nice selection of snowmen at a fraction of the price of the Kinkade.

That’s at least a good deal less cloying.

by Anonymousreply 22November 23, 2020 7:04 PM

r20 it's used ironically, much like "adorbs"

by Anonymousreply 23November 23, 2020 9:39 PM

r21 I like that! But $30 seems really cheap :-o

by Anonymousreply 24November 23, 2020 9:39 PM

A frau will love it. After the holidays, she can shove it up her pussy.

by Anonymousreply 26November 24, 2020 12:55 AM

I like the little snowy village inside. It makes me feel cozy.

by Anonymousreply 27November 24, 2020 1:57 AM

I love it! Great gift if your sister is young enough to display it for a few years. One of her kids or someone in the family might like it for their own collection (hopefully, sincerely). I think it's sweet.

by Anonymousreply 28November 24, 2020 1:58 AM

Your sister will love it because it is from YOU. And it's perfectly frauish.
