Ambient movies and TV shows

The New Yorker has declared Emily in Paris to be an ambient TV show, a show which has no greater purpose than to be pleasant background noise, like the Scenery Channel from Back to the Future 2.

What are some other ambient programs?

HGTV is an entire network intended to be ambient programming that one can half-watch.

I am a specialist. Ambient movies include the ENTIRE history of "classic" holiday films and classic horror movies. All the Universal horror classics. Good movies, but totally ambient. All the summer teen young adult horror slasher flicks. All 50s melodrama. Douglas Sirk. All Fellini, which have the added ambient benefit of being in a language I barely understand. Minnelli. As for TV shows, you have to get the real mainstream stuff that you do NOT need to watch to follow. The stuff made for brain dead young people or for senior citizens. But the point is, you have to respect it a little, so the point of it being ambient is that you kind of like it and can follow without watching or paying too much attention. Procedurals are good. Elementary had fabulous sound engineering. Bosch is ambient - I just like his voice. Like Michael Moore's podcast - he has a good voice. Late night talk shows are all ambient. The series Mom and Super Store. Modern Family was ambient until eventually I didn't respect it anymore. Dolly Parton's Heartstrings. Hallmark Christmas movies. The series Evil and the other one Helstrom. You'd die from boredom if you actually watched these, but if you don't sit down and watch, they are perfect ambient input.

“Emily in Paris” is essentially a mash-up of “A Devil Wears Prada” and “Sex in the City” .

I love it, and every vapid moment of happiness.
