I didn’t know Durgin-Park had closed. Had lunch there during 8th grade field trip to Freedom Trail. Can you imagine how awful we were, those poor waitresses.

When I was a college student in Boston way back in the 1970s, Anthony's Pier 4 was the place you'd take your parents when they came to visit. Delicious seafood and elegant service, the first place I ever had baked stuffed shrimp. And the popovers!
I guess it's not still there?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 3, 2020 1:45 AM |
No, it's now all huge luxury towers, r13!

Barbara R10 I didn’t know you were on DL!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 3, 2020 1:49 AM |
Sad, r13! Back then the area actually was all authentic fishermen's piers and most of Anthony's seafood was caught right there daily.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 3, 2020 1:51 AM |
r10., Barbara only owns B&G these days!! All the other oysterias are not hers.

Thanks R17, I miss the days when she was queen of the scene.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 3, 2020 1:57 AM |
Lydia too. And JOdy, right, r19...
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 3, 2020 2:02 AM |
When I first started coming to DL there were whole threads on a Philip who worked at Formaggio Kitchen and his perfect ass. Much effort was expended in figuring out who he was and when he could be seen. I made the pilgrimage but don't think I saw Philip.

Don’t know if she’s the top queen of the scene, but Tiffani Faison really deserves a seat on the royal court. Like a Monopoly champ, she’s got 3 great properties in a row in Fenway... Tiger Mama, Sweet Cheeks and Orfano.

Dini's

Legal Seafood.
I used to go all the time there with my mom.
I came home for a week at the holidays and we went two nights in a row; on the third night, she said where should we go?
Back to Legal's, I said. OH, we CAN"T! we've been there 2x already!
I said, ever had a bad meal there? We must have gone five or six times that visit.
Great memories.

Regina Pizza is the best I’ve ever had, and I live in New York.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 3, 2020 5:11 AM |
Whenever I call to order a pizza at Regina’s, I’ll ask them if it “is indeed, Pizzeria Regina?” Except I pronounce it as a Canadian would the capital of Saskatchewan. They’re never nearly amused as I am...

R25 it’s still “pretty good” but back when it was just in Mass and before it became totally franchised it was SO good.
Really doesn’t compare now.
Do they still have Steve Herrell’s ice cream? I haven’t been to the Boston area in ages (and that’s fine by me, actually.)

Durgin Park closed? That makes me sad, I always loved a big slab of prime rib from a surly waitress there. The Boston of my youth is only a fading memory now.

I'm endlessly fascinated with Boston. I was born and grew up there. I have traveled fairly extensively throughout the world, and Boston is one of the great cities.

It is a fascinating city with lots of pockets and enclaves. It's one of the few places with a deep identity: You know you're from Boston if...
