President-elect Joe Biden Announces Members of White House Senior Staff

Carlos Elizondo, White House Social Secretary

[quote] Carlos Elizondo was a Special Assistant to the President and Social Secretary to Vice President and Dr. Jill Biden for all eight years of the Obama-Biden administration, the first Hispanic American appointed to this position. In this role, he had responsibility for planning, managing, and successfully executing all events hosted by the Vice President and his family, to include visits by world leaders, members of Congress, business leaders, and other high-ranking dignitaries and celebrities. During the Clinton-Gore administration, Elizondo served in both the White House and in the Office of the U.S. Chief of Protocol, where he managed numerous state visits, Papal visits, the Centennial Olympic Games, the NATO 50th Anniversary Summit and other international summits. Elizondo has held several positions outside of government, including Senior Director of Presidential Events at Georgetown University, Manager of Special Activities and Protocol at Walt Disney World, and as an Estate Manager overseeing operations for a private family estate. Originally from Texas, Elizondo is a graduate of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio. He and his partner reside in Washington, D.C.

[quote] To date, the Obama-Biden Administration has appointed more than 250 openly LGBTQ professionals to full-time and advisory positions in the executive branch; more than all known LGBTQ appointments of other presidential administrations combined.

The Democratic party is a reflection of what America actually is. The Republican party is a reflection of what supremacists think America should be.

Now if that's not smelling cookies I don't know what is!

by Anonymousreply 3November 20, 2020 3:51 PM

[Quote]The Pontifical College Josephinum is a private Roman Catholic liberal arts college and graduate school of theology in Columbus, Ohio. It was founded by Monsignor Joseph Jessing in 1888 and is the only papal college in North America. The seminary prepares its students to become priests in the Roman Catholic Church.

Well I guess Elizondo decided on a different path after graduation. Question is if he had better opportunities to find a partner in or outside the priesthood?

Jeremy Bernard, who held the position in the Obama administration from 2011-2015 was born in San Antonio.

Excellent choice, President Elect Biden!

by Anonymousreply 9November 20, 2020 4:05 PM

Okay, it's a total cliche, but I'm glad he's gay. It just seems ridiculous to put a straight guy in that job.

by Anonymousreply 10November 20, 2020 4:05 PM

Let's hope we get a gay secretary of defense.

The smart money-- and most qualified-- choice is Michèle Flournoy for Defense.

Pete's only chance is UN Ambassador.

I wonder if Pete really wants to be in the cabinet. He might have to for a couple of years or he might be seen as not being a team player. He's got bigger things on his mind and a cabinet position is not the best way to get there

by Anonymousreply 13November 20, 2020 4:27 PM

A gay Mexican! Rethugs shrieking in fear!!

by Anonymousreply 14November 20, 2020 4:28 PM

Pete is not really qualified to be UN Ambassador. I don't know why people keep floating that idea, unless they're just being stans.

by Anonymousreply 15November 20, 2020 4:30 PM

Pete speaks foreign languages. But IMO he ought to be the head of some thing like Commerce. But here's the thing. Pete's past history doesn't indicate enough experience for foreign policy unless he starts by heading up some Agency that has an international mission, like USAID or something. The Foreign Service is hierarchical, and most foreign service officer and others on the diplomatic tract are critical to the success of anyone who gets appointed, so he would have to develop stronger credentials. It's one of the few areas where credentials are important. Even Pompeo who is a ignorant POS, at least has his Harvard Law Degree and his West Point background. But he has a horrible personality and generates no respect from the State and CIA staff. None. He is a dangerous ideological buffoon.

by Anonymousreply 16November 20, 2020 4:41 PM

I loved him in Pretty Woman.

by Anonymousreply 17November 20, 2020 4:59 PM

He ought to take HUD, which will actually have a serious role to play soon. We are going to have a housing crisis soon, and I would love somebody with Pete's intelligence and dedication actually trying to deal with it, rather than some hack who's there just cause they need somebody and nobody else wants it. I think he'd actually do a good job, and being a former city mayor is actually a help there, as opposed to in fantasy positions like Sec of defense or state.

by Anonymousreply 18November 20, 2020 5:21 PM

R18 Pete has a problematic history with BIPOC communities. He really doesn’t belong in cabinet.

by Anonymousreply 19November 22, 2020 12:22 AM

Pete needs to get into congress first.

by Anonymousreply 20November 22, 2020 12:30 AM

Can the Pete fans give it a rest? Your devotion is noted, and unseemly.

by Anonymousreply 21November 22, 2020 12:33 AM

I hope there's a gay Secretary of the Interior Designer

by Anonymousreply 22November 22, 2020 12:37 AM

Not funny dude

by Anonymousreply 23November 22, 2020 1:05 AM

Congratulations to Carlos Elizondo.

I'm happy, but still...

A gay man as social secretary?

Let's see Biden appoint an openly gay man like Eric Fanning as Secretary of Defense, Sean Maloney as Attorney General, or Tammy Baldwin as HUD Secretary. That would be truly groundbreaking.

by Anonymousreply 24November 25, 2020 8:29 PM

Most importantly - he's cute
