Senator Charles Grassley has coronavirus at age 87.
Republican senators have been refusing to wear masks, so it's likely that he will be felled by his own party.
It's almost like Shakespeare's Julius Caesar! "Et tu, Ted Cruz?"
|by Anonymous||reply 9||11/17/2020|
Like Trump eats anything as classy as roasted turkey. If Mickey D's ain't deep fried poultry - it ain't passing his fat lips!
|by Anonymous||reply 10||11/17/2020|
Grassley's getting the best care. He’s not a frail 87. He’s a pretty spry old bastard. He’s white. I think he’ll survive. All the evil white men do.

Yoohoo, Armando Iannucci! have I got a screenplay for you!
|by Anonymous||reply 16||11/17/2020|
You are correct, sir. The only evil Republican who died was Herman Cain and he was black.
But seriously, it would take a mass die-off to change the hearts (do they have them?) and minds (ok, they don't have them) of the GOP. One or two sacrificing their lives is nothing, an offering on the altar of the great God Trump.
|by Anonymous||reply 17||11/17/2020|
And if he dies, the Iowa Republican Governor gets to pick his temporary replacement ( eventual front runner 🏃 status)

Trump is seeing the ghost of Barbara Bush in the White House, wearing the Quaker oatmeal man's hat, singing Christmas carols and telling him that the ghost of Leona Helmsley will be visiting him on Christmas Eve.

|by Anonymous||reply 29||11/17/2020|
[quote] R24: He could just pardon himself as he’s filling up Air Force 1.
He might already have done so, secretly, already.
There a lot of controversy over this for many reasons, but one big reason he might not do so, is because accepting a pardon requires the recipient to acknowledge that he broke the law. That acknowledgment could be used by NY, DC, or Florida against Trump, in state or district criminal trial. Also, he can’t plead the 5th if he can’t be prosecuted. Something like that.
If Trump resigns after making a deal with Pence for a pardon, if I were new President Pence, I’d agree to pardon Trump, but would no do so.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||11/17/2020|
Can Trump pardon himself?
|by Anonymous||reply 31||11/17/2020|

If he goes to Mar-A-Lago, the fucking Russian Oligarchs he was supposed to be celebrating with, have orders to Poison him. The GRU arrived on a private jet. Yes. Yes they did. OP That was a given. He’s too ashamed to go face his “friends” at Mar-A-Lago who paid astronomical amounts of money to be associated with this loser
Dump has no actual friends & I don't think he's capable of shame; I do think he's scared that if he leaves the WH, old Sleepy Joe will sneak in & next thing you know, Dr. Jill will have changed the locks - Melania will depart to her condo & he'll be left sleeping in some reporter's car. He's also probably terrified of leaving his fortress & facing the angry mob, even if it is FL. While I doubt he cares about *friends*, there may be some people he owes $$ to that will be there to...greet him.
I remember jokes on DL about how the SS would have to forcibly escort him out & I am beginning to wonder now if that's so far fetched.

R41. So far, pretty well everything Trump is associated with ends up being worse than anything anyone ever imaged. So "far-fetched" is actually part and parcel of the Trump drama.

Not if he’s pardoned before any charges are filed. A blanket pardon for crimes that *may have been committed* doesn’t equal being guilty of any crime, because he was never tried & convicted for a crime.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||Last Wednesday at 9:00 AM|
The more tantrumps he throws, the harder for him to concede or move out of the White House. He's painted himself into a corner.

I think it was Michael Cohen who said he expected Dump to go to Mar-a-lago for the holidays and never go back to the White House. But I don't think he'd do anything that tactful.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||Last Wednesday at 10:16 AM|
Don the Con is an attention hound. He'll do anything to stay in the news. That is how he builds the fake aura of power that enables him to keep cheating.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||Last Wednesday at 10:25 AM|
Is there any chance he may not be going because the Secret Service is 130+ agents short during their 14 day quarantine? Might they be stretched thin? It's easier to protect him and the huge family at the White House. Also, with the drug cocktail he's on, they might want to be close to Walter Reed.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||Last Wednesday at 10:29 AM|
Maybe there's a more "strategic" reason behind confining Trump to D.C. They know he's out of control, angry, and desperate so they want him nice and close to monitor every call, every action, every person he speaks to in person, everything he does. Except for tweets, obviously.

I can’t help but feel this is “if I go on vacation, others will look in my desk and find out all the things I haven’t done” syndrome. Or maybe there’s a lot of White House staffers that want to help the Biden transition, and he’s afraid if he leaves, they’ll go behind his back to help.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||Last Wednesday at 1:24 PM|
[quote] I thought Trump was going to resume his MAGAt rallies, how will he get his narcissistic needs met if he doesn't leave the WH?
In order to get away with having his rallies paid for, he has to be a candidate for president.
In order to be a candidate for president, he has to admit Joe Biden won. It’s a conundrum. He can only run for president in 2024 if he agrees he lost the election.
I do think that not going to Maralago may be a result of the secret service refusing to go there because Trump’s guests won’t wear masks. I think the secret service doesn’t want to risk any more of their agents by traveling somewhere where there’s going to be a huge number of maskless people who will infect even more secret service agents.
|by Anonymous||reply 64||Last Wednesday at 1:53 PM|
At what point is the Secret Service allowed to just come in and shoot him? Or maybe that's the Marines. Or just wishful thinking.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||Last Wednesday at 2:10 PM|
Isnt it great how powerless Trump is? Nobody cares about what he has to say. Twitter removes or annotates his tweets. Networks cut away from his speeches. Judges throw his cases out of court.
But then...there’s the fear of what he’s going to do in retaliation.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||Last Wednesday at 3:16 PM|
Add to that, r66 "family dynamics" - who knows what exactly is going on behind the scenes, who has his ear, or who is irritating him Every single decision that whole entire family makes relates to $$$. They must be panicked worrying about debts, legal issues, political storm clouds amassing. They must be panicked also on how to salvage an increasingly volatile situation - spinning further and further away from him with each passing day. Trump is trying to create "a win" for himself. He has to make a "great deal".

|by Anonymous||reply 74||Last Thursday at 5:11 AM|
You know what really pisses me off? The News Media and most of us know by now that Trump is totally unqualified and in way over his head as far as being President. He has never done the work. Never. Four damned years and he has cruised through them poorly informed, peddling conspiracy theories, refusing to read his briefings, turning cabinet meetings into rant sessions, and staff has bent over backwards and forwards to accommodate this ignorant POS. The very next time someone mentions "qualifications" to be President to me I am going to punch them in the face.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||Last Friday at 7:27 AM|
If Joe Biden is smart, he will act as if we are coming into a battlefield after the war has ended. Because I wouldn't trust anything they say, and I have a feeling they will sabotage and hide and lie about everything. We need to treat them as hostiles, and we are coming in to restore order after chaos.
|by Anonymous||reply 76||Last Friday at 7:43 AM|
It will end in tears...
|by Anonymous||reply 77||Last Friday at 8:02 AM|
I think, r76 the key word uttered yesterday by Biden was "irresponsible." Biden chose his words v-e-r-y c-a-re-f-u-l-l-y. Reading between the lines, I heard "treason, enemy, untrustworthy, sabotage, etc" It didn't sound very good at all. At all. I just can't believe they are going to let Trump wander the globe chatting up dictators, deal-making by swapping secrets in exchange for big favors. There's a saying - “A drowning man will grab the blade of a sword.” All those world leaders dragging their feet congratulating Biden know that Trump is up to no good - that "power" is going to felt even after Jan 20th. He's a dirty dog.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||Last Friday at 8:23 AM|
I agree. And the reach of his vengeance is long even now. The business community has now gone on the record, several national organizations and business leaders telling Trump to stop fucking around, so he has Mnuchin attempting to pull $455 Billion in business help out of our Federal Reserve system and The Fed is resisting because it spells disaster for our economy. Mnuchin is doing it to harm the business community at Trump's behest. As Brianna Keilar just said on CNN<"What the hell is he doing???"

[quote]He doesn’t want to face anyone in Florida. He feels like a jerk.
R60 is on the right path to the correct answer. But it's more than Trump just feeling like a jerk. He's mortified and humiliated and feels like a loser--the worst thing that you can called Trump. There is no lasting shame for losing an election; it happens all the time. It's not easy, and it's probably a huge ego blow, but if you give it your all and fight the good fight, it's unfortunate to lose, but it happens and takes some time to recover. However with Trump, he's a piece of shit. He's corrupt and a fraud. He didn't deserve to win. And he knows it, but his mind gets clouded because he keeps telling himself he's great--and he has adoring crowds and disgusting sycophants supporting him. Trump thought he could continue conning the public. This is one of the few times in his life that he cannot wish away, bully away, pay someone off to handle it or simply be given a victory.
As a result and as bad as losing may feel, he's making it worse for himself and everyone around him. He and slimy lawyers and political sycophants are dreaming up lies and think the justice system can be conned and bullied into changing the rules and skirting the laws. Trump is losing in every court where he displays this ridiculous and embarrassing clown show.
Trump is not going to Florida because he's making losing even worse than it is, and he's beyond mortified. He's further brandishing himself as a loser more than it needs to be. Trump thinks he has perfected the art of playing victim and the courts are not having it. The courts want evidence. Trump has nothing--and his so-called friends beyond the safety of the White House bunker mentality know he lost big time--and Trump knows it too. No one can undo Trump's psychosis and his grandiose humiliation of losing. He needs major, long-term therapy, and it's too late for that. Trump doesn't allow himself to heal. His inadequacy just festers in his mind and makes him more bitter by the day.
His bitter victim personality is what is causing him to "seek revenge" and say he's running in 2024. As Mary Trump said, she doesn't believe he will run because he will never allow himself to lose on such a grand scale again. His ego is too fragile. It may fill a void now and serve as a threat to the country and his party. Him threatening to run is something to dangle out there to keep everyone off guard. But in the end, he won't run again because the possibility of losing could happen--and he cannot tolerate the thought being called a loser once again.

|by Anonymous||reply 100||Last Friday at 11:21 PM|
I somewhat agree with r93.
Others here have correctly pointed out where r93 is wrong and that is that reproductive rights are in peril.
But, I too think there was a massive overreaction to Trump. Let me be clear- not to his bigotry, hatefulness, lying, and unleashing violence- those never can be overreacted to.
I mean there was an overreaction by some Dems to his ability, when, in reality, Trump's an incompetent, colossal idiot who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
Part of the overreaction to Trump's election and his perceived ability actually was heartbreak over Hillary's loss.
The USA is very, very lucky that Trump is an idiot, something I knew of him way before "The Apprentice", a show which, I'm proud to say, I've never even seen one episode.
What we're not so lucky about is that there are very smart, evil Repugs who are coming down the pipeline.
Tom Cotton, for example, is not as smart as he thinks he is, but he's way, way more savvy and skilled politician than Trump ever could be. His ruthless ambition frightens me.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||Last Saturday at 1:53 AM|

|by Anonymous||reply 104||Last Saturday at 4:23 AM|
No, R104. It is very easy to incite violence in others and then whine about being a victim, which is trumps go-to projection.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||Last Saturday at 4:27 AM|
4 years ago. It would have been enormously worse this time if Trump had won in 2020.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||Last Saturday at 4:27 AM|
All Trump had to do was stay off Twitter and stop being Trump. If he would have just played the game, the way the game is supposed to be played and surrounded himself by just one or two competent people with government experience things may have gone completely different for him. There still would have been a democratic reaction to him, but he may not be as reviled as he is. But what do I know, the motherfucker still got 73 million votes.
|by Anonymous||reply 107||Last Saturday at 4:46 AM|
R101, my fear is that we will get a smarter smoother version not only of Trump, but the Extreme Right has inadvertently exposed the entire network, or support system that installed Trump. Unless we dismantle that network and there are swift and certain consequences for treason and sedition, we are just whistling past the graveyard. This will happen again and the players will be more effective. Here's the thing to know: Ideology is an encumbrance. We can beat them, when we are faced with Rigid ideologues because we can spot them a mile away, and they are so encumbered by their ideology, that they engage in magical thinking, and overreach. Being rigid makes them stupid no matter how educated they are. They only talk to one another and never get out of their bubble. Now Where I worry, is that there are evil forces out here, who have no ideology to speak of, like the Russian mobsters & oligarchs. All they are motivated by is Greed and oppressing the masses and distracting them. So while we all attack one another and remain polarized dealing with our ideological differences, those bastards who are trying to establish a corporate police state will prevail. We need stricter laws about international finance and investment so that corruption is rooted out.
|by Anonymous||reply 108||Last Saturday at 4:46 AM|
Right, r106, as though taking an extreme and generalizing it to the many is a cogent response.
Let's see, under Trump, hate crimes have increased, minority children have reported being intimidated and bullied by white,Trump supporting classmates, Trump supporters show-up with guns at demonstrations and Kyle Rittenhouse, martyr/criminal of Trump Rabidians everywhere and of Trump himself is venerated by them.
At one of his brownshirt rallies, Trump pointed out a lone, brave protester among a sea of his supporters and said in the old days the protester would have been "taken out on a stretcher", implying he could be the one meting it out, except , of course Trump is physical and mental coward. He, "the most powerful man in the world" can't even fire people face-to-face, he does so at the safe remove of his Twitter account.
Not to mention, a person belonging to the "very nice people on both sides", accelerated his car and and struck and killed a young woman in Charlottesville.
What contempt you have for others if you think you can get by with making Trump equivalent to any other POTUS.; as though Biden, Obama or either Bush would approve of and incite violence the way Trump has.

R104 It wasn't the left which told Proud Boys to stand by, it wasn't the left which defended "both sides" at a Nazi rally, it wasn't the left which pursued rhetoric which led to a militia planning to abduct and execute a governor.

I hope there’s a good coverage buyer press on him being hauled out by the military along with his whore. We need to make sure he didn’t steal any of the things that Jackie Kennedy made sure ended up in the White House. Including those paintings he took out of that embassy in Europe. These people are grifters and we have to make sure they don’t steal. They cheat on everything else so there’s no reason to assume they’re going to do the right thing here. Maybe they’ll take Hillary Clinton is China with them. That would be funny.

They all turned out to be replicas anyway.

Why is R104 here?

Everything that R93 says that we democrats are "losing our minds over" is starting to happen by judicial appointment.
Yesterday, here in Florida, two of Trump's judicial appointees have overturned the ban on gay conversion therapy for children in South Florida. It took us years to get this passed. Now that Trump has installed 200 illiberal, gay-hating judges across America, you will see this shit start to roll out.
And Supreme Court Justice Karen is ready for the first abortion rights case to come before her.
R93 is wrong in thinking that, because these things didn't happen immediately, by executive order, that they are not going to happen. All of these 200 federal judges are LIFETIME appointments. We'll be dealing with the fallout from this for decades.

Amen r108. People need to start going to jail and that Koch brother needs to be publicly punished for his treasonous acts for the past twenty years.

so much projection.
any time there's actual vote fraud or political violence, the evidence reveals a Republic behind it.

Trump IS the turkey’s asshole, R8.

The biggest mistake we made was believing that Americans were better than Nazi Germans. We now have to realize that fascism is less than 6 million votes away.

Trump and I will have a cozy Thanksgiving snuggling by the WH fireplace sipping eggnog after a delightful round of golf.
