Attempted murder, rape, theft of property, assault, kidnapping? I have been the victim of property theft (out of an auto) twice here in Texas. These asshole criminals will smash your windows in a second. Other than that I guess I’ve been fairly lucky.
My apartment was robbed twice in the 1970s. My stereo and all my albums (fortunately, most were still at my parents' house). I think it was done by a so-called friend who knew I was going to be out all night, as he had driven me to where I was spending the night.
He was known among his friends as a thief. He'd stolen a girlfriend's bike, and tried to steal a roommate of mine's car tape deck, which was on a shelf in our apartment. Another friend caught him and revealed it in front of the entire group of friends who were gathered there.

I had a friend who was robbed in Dallas back in the 90s. He was in his mid 50s and met a much younger man in a bar and took him home. My friend woke up the next morning completely cleaned out! The kid got his wallet, cash, Rolex, jewelry. My friend thinks he was drugged.

My apartment was broken into and robbed twice by the same guy. The second time, a neighbor (who didn't care much for me) saw him leave my apartment with my stuff and chased him down, tackled him in the street. I was at work at the time and was told the whole crazy story from the cops the next day. It's pretty wild. The robber was a desperate crackhead who didn't get much because I was poor, too.
My friend got yanked into an alley and the mugger smashed his head into the brick wall before grabbing his wallet and watch. So I got off lucky, I guess. This all happened in Baltimore, naturally.

I can’t figure out what’s going on in that blurry article. I take it two ugly guys broke into the home of a hot, hairy daddy who happens to be a big time sex pest. Accompanying article is a large sexy photo of hot daddy in a state of undress. I take it this appeared in a UK tabloid. Why did it make international news?

Adams Morgan was where my car got broken into and my radio stolen. Does anyone steel car radios or TVs anymore? Radios these days seem to not be of a standard size and TVs are either too large or too cheap to replace to deal with.
I did have my wallet stolen while at a clothing optional resort in Fort Lauderdale. I was down in the hot tub and when I went to my room the door was wide open and my wallet was gone. I had driven down from Atlanta so I had no drivers license or money for the journey back. A nice guy from Chicago loaned me $100 for gas money and I repaid him when I got home.

Back in the early '80s, you didn't think of yourself as truly living in Adams-Morgan until your car had been broken into.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 13, 2020 1:32 PM |
My car had two of its tires slashed and I am 95% sure that it was an ex of mine. This was in Washington DC.
Having lived in DC and NYC you'd think I'd have better crime stories, but no, just a crazy ex and two flat tires.

When I was 15 I was out with friends in a rock concert. The place was a bit seedy and filled with young people up to like 25, most of them drunk. I passed a group of older guys and suddenly felt something hit me in the head hard. One of the cunts had kicked me in the back of my head. I fell to my knees but I was up in an instant and ready to attack the fucker but my friends held me back by force. Thankfully nothing else has happened to me, and I hope never will.
BTW, my classmate, a girl who lived next to me, was gang raped by a bunch of guys in a car at that seedy arena some time later. One of the guys was actually her boyfriend who felt it was ok to share. That was one of those times I realized how much worse it can be for the girls.

A guy with a knife threaten to cut my "motherfucking ass" while his friend was holding him back telling me to get the hell out of there because he couldn't hold him back forever but nothing actually happened. I just walked away. So almost that.
A house I was renting was broken into while I was gone, they took everything of much value and even cheap shit like pictures on the wall and pillow cases, I am assuming to carry stuff out. Surprisingly they left a checkbook, it was the 80's.
Different house I own now, two white rocking chairs were taken from the front porch in September, everyone in this neighborhood has rocking chairs on their front porches but just mine were taken. Go figure.

When I was a kid, our house was broken into and a shit ton of stuff was stolen. I was 9 and was a latchkey kid, so I came home with a friend of mine and found the door open. We (stupidly) went inside to see what had happened, but thankfully no one was there. They were incredibly thorough and took everything not nailed down. They even got my brand new Star Wars digital watch I had just been given for my birthday.
When I was in college, I was "date raped." I had been at a bar in NYC hanging out by myself, playing pinball and attracting a small group of admirers. By the end of the evening, there were two guys left and one of the bartenders, and all three were vying for my attention. One of the guys suggested we all go to an after hours place together. The bartender tried to get me to go home with him instead, but I was super drunk and not done being admired, so I declined. I went to the after hours club with the other two guys, one of whom I had zero interest in. He soon figured it out and left. I was one on one with the last guy and we were making out in a back area of the club, and the next thing I knew I was on the floor, he was on top of me and I couldn't get out from under him. He was gigantic, too. Like 6'5" and really broad and football player sized. I was finally able to get up and out of the club around an hour later, grabbed a cab and got back to my dorm. When I walked in, I guess I looked like I'd had the shit kicked out of me, because the night guards on duty freaked out and wanted to call the cops, but I asked them not to. I remember I was wearing a shirt I'd borrowed from a friend and all I could think about was what I was going to tell him because it was ruined. I pulled myself together, and managed to avoid everyone but the dorm manager, who had been told about me by the guards. I thought I would just forget about it and move on, and I knew it was my own fault, but for the rest of the semester, I fell into this real funk. I was skipping classes, I'd sleep all day, barely leave my room... I wound up having to take incompletes and make them up during the summer. I saw the guy again about 6 months later and he came up to me and said hello like nothing had ever happened.
Last one- I moved to LA after living in NYC for several years. I was working delivering court documents and was near the downtown court. I had parked my car really far away at the 9 hour meters because my boss was too cheap to pay for the parking lots near the courts. I was on this little side street and walking towards the main road when some guy on the other side of the street crossed in the middle and started coming towards me. He said something to me that I didn't hear so I asked him to repeat it and he took out this huge knife and told me to give him my wallet. I swear I don't know what I was thinking, but I said no and then took off running. Well, he took off running after me and was right on my ass. I made it to the main street, which had heavy traffic, ran out into the middle of it, and got thumped by a car (not too hard, though I was super black and blue on my side the next day). The driver stopped, I was a babbling mess, yelling at him to let me get into his car, someone was chasing me, but I guess the guy took off once I made it to the main street. The driver was actually not going to let me get in his car, but I wouldn't take no for an answer and I had him drive me to the courthouse and drop me off. I went in, found the cops, who were very nice. They radioed for a car to come pick me up and they took me driving around the streets to see if I could spot the guy, but we didn't see him.

Yes, mugged four times during the 80s. One I fought for my life against two men. The one that did the most psychological damage happened at 8 in the morning while I was headed to work. Two homeless men. I chased one and he was caught. He was sent to prison for 7 years for complicated reasons. He and his accomplice had mugged another man a block away, violently. I found his wallet in my brief case when it was returned to me. I've been harassed, threaten, insulted. All of these incidences involved black males. We really need a reckoning on race in this country.

I was followed by men in cars several times and one got out and tried to pull me in. My apartment was broken into and jewelry stolen. A rapist broke into another apartment and I interrupted him dragging my roommate across the room by coming home. My car was broken into a bunch of times so I would just leave the window down so they didn’t break the glass. I was working the door of a club and a guy came in and grabbed all the money out of my hand. Someone broke my windshield and I think I know who. Oh and a strange boy tried to rape me at a bus stop but I ran away. A monk tried to feel me up on the mega bus. I have more but am tired.

R49 - I lived in Cincinnati for 10 years as a student and had no car, so I walked or took the bus everywhere. EVERY problem I had in that entire timespan was caused by black guys, sorry to say it. One example - I stupidly stayed for a late movie downtown and then was sitting outside the main library at 11 p.m. when it was absolutely deserted. Four young black guys were slowly approaching on the other side of the street. One of them pointed at me and they started to cross the street. The bus beat them by about 1 minute. I've always thought that was my luckiest escape in life.
