Take the word “amazing” out of your vocabulary NOW.

I am done. I just read a post on a thread here at DL that contained the word “amazing” four times. You bitter old queens haven’t been truly “amazed” in decades. Find a more descriptive word, or go back to grammar school. There’s apps to increase your word power.....use them!

by Anonymousreply 39October 26, 2020 12:34 AM

AMAZEBALLS!!!

by Anonymousreply 1October 25, 2020 7:55 PM

That's a truly amazing insight, OP. I'm amazed that you found something so amazing right here on our own amazing datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 2October 25, 2020 7:57 PM

OP has stated her boundaries.

Amazing really when you think about it.

by Anonymousreply 3October 25, 2020 7:58 PM

Fabulous discussion.

A-fucking-mazing!

by Anonymousreply 7October 25, 2020 8:02 PM

Also the phrase 'I am obsessed with'.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 9October 25, 2020 8:18 PM

Someone's been reading "Dreyer's English." He abhors words like "amazing" and "actually" and even "very," which he derides as "wan intensifiers."

Shut up, op, you schoolmarm.

by Anonymousreply 11October 25, 2020 8:32 PM

[quote] wan intensifiers

Sounds like an amazing Chinese food selection.

by Anonymousreply 12October 25, 2020 8:40 PM

Old queens rarely use this tired word. Its a FRAU expression.

[quote] Someone's been reading "Dreyer's English."

That’s amazing. I didn’t know he had a book.

I beg your pardon, OP!

Please eliminate “awesome” too. Please.

by Anonymousreply 17October 25, 2020 9:41 PM

I don’t mind amazing as much as problematic.

by Anonymousreply 18October 25, 2020 9:56 PM

From my heart, OP, please listen. .. If you wish to remain on DL, you must remember that ONLY WHEN we've called on you AFTER your sweaty little hand is raised, will we acknowledge your existence. That's a far cry from allowing you to voice your opinion. Your post today is proof of why this works.

I understand the pandemic has put the nerves of some of us slightly on edge. And we direct that stress where it will best serve us: to loved ones and close relatives. We don't do it here on DL.

I think your Hello Kitty kettle is on the boil. Go switch it off. NOW...

by Anonymousreply 19October 25, 2020 10:14 PM

Op, I'll replace it with brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 20October 25, 2020 10:16 PM

Whatever, fat ho OP.

by Anonymousreply 21October 25, 2020 10:36 PM

OP should take "I am done" out of his vocabulary. It is lazy, slangy and suggests he has an IQ too low for informed opinions about English usage or anything else.

by Anonymousreply 22October 25, 2020 10:38 PM

I agree.

Everything is AMAZING. Omg this weather is amazing. Omg your hair is amazing. Omg this coffee is amazing.

Idiots

by Anonymousreply 23October 25, 2020 10:41 PM

Kyle’s husbear, Mauricio, on HW of BH says that cringe worthy superlative ALL the fucking time. But then he seems to be baked, ALL the time too. But who wouldn’t, married to that house stealing whore.

by Anonymousreply 24October 25, 2020 10:47 PM

Whenever I see "OMG" I want to gagged someone with a spoon.

by Anonymousreply 25October 25, 2020 10:48 PM

There's no such thing as a straight bear, Kim. Now get back to the bathroom; your crackpipe is getting lonely.

by Anonymousreply 26October 25, 2020 10:54 PM

"There’s apps"

And there's something called "subject-verb agreement", OP.

Check it out. It's amazing.

by Anonymousreply 27October 25, 2020 11:08 PM

Watch two hours of HGTV and you will hear enough amazings to drive you up a wall!

by Anonymousreply 28October 25, 2020 11:11 PM

"What word are you going to use when Jesus returns if you've already worn it out describing a bowl of chicken wings?"

by Anonymousreply 29October 25, 2020 11:12 PM

Uh, who ever said he was totally straight....

by Anonymousreply 30October 25, 2020 11:16 PM

Replace it with gigglefest. I.e. Omg your hair is a gigglefest!

by Anonymousreply 31October 25, 2020 11:18 PM

OP must be totes adorbs!

by Anonymousreply 32October 25, 2020 11:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 34October 25, 2020 11:22 PM

Amazing is a perfectly cromulent word, OP.

by Anonymousreply 35October 25, 2020 11:23 PM

Fan-fucking-tastic OP. Finally, a superlative hater here on the DL.

by Anonymousreply 36October 25, 2020 11:48 PM

[quote] perfectly cromulent

I had that last night for dessert.

by Anonymousreply 37October 26, 2020 12:22 AM

The word ‘amazing’ is a weak word like the words ‘disgusting’ and ‘offensive’.

It says more about the person speaking than about the object being described.

It’s not an objective description suitable to be used in a court of law.

by Anonymousreply 38October 26, 2020 12:31 AM

[quote] The word ‘amazing’ is a weak word like the words ‘disgusting’ and ‘offensive’.

I disagree about the word offensive, at least in the workplace. If you hit someone back with, “that’s offensive!” they will go on the defensive and back down. (I’m specifically referring to supervisors and bosses.)
