WSJ: China Trade War DID NOT Boost U.S. Manufacturing Might

WASHINGTON—President Trump’s trade war against China didn’t achieve the central objective of reversing a U.S. decline in manufacturing, economic data show, despite tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars of Chinese goods to discourage imports.

The major problem is still labor related. If these other countries are allowed to pay their workers pennies per hour, then of course manufacturing jobs are going to ship there. Trump failed, like most presidents do, because he didn't insist upon a global minimum wage in all trade agreements. If every worker was being paid the same minimum no matter where they worked, labor would no longer be the determining factor about where jobs are created.

Trade wars are easy. Hit them with tariffs and they will come crawling to you begging for mercy! Duh!

No duh

The only thing Trump's program accomplished was making American farmers (Republicans) welfare junkies.

No such thing as socialism with Trump and the Republicans.

MAGA!!!

A global minimum wage??? Are you insane or just plain stupid? The US themselves can't agree upon a national minimum wage and you are trying to ram this idea down the world's throat. Ridiculous.

But I thought Amercia would get rich again, making Flexible Flyers, and TVs and washing machines, and dungarees and a good cloth car coat, and holiday decorations!

There was going to be a factory on every corner.

by Anonymousreply 7October 25, 2020 4:49 PM

What happened to all the factories?

by Anonymousreply 8October 25, 2020 5:18 PM

Why I should I believe lying liberal media like the Wall Street Journal?!?

by Anonymousreply 9October 25, 2020 5:20 PM

So we have been paying for all these tarrifs for nothing?

by Anonymousreply 10October 25, 2020 5:35 PM

For nothing? No, the .01% thank you kindly.

by Anonymousreply 11October 25, 2020 5:48 PM

Not surprised.

by Anonymousreply 12October 25, 2020 6:22 PM

Shocker! He didn't bring coal back, either

by Anonymousreply 13October 25, 2020 6:24 PM

Everything is so expensive now. Hopefully JB will eliminate tarrifs and things will be affordable again.

by Anonymousreply 14October 25, 2020 6:35 PM

Go Joe!

by Anonymousreply 15October 25, 2020 7:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 16October 25, 2020 8:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 17October 25, 2020 8:06 PM
