Even though she doesn't need the work, I'm surprised he hasn't recruited Sigourney Weaver to join his roster of actresses of a certain age.

I'm almost done watching the original Twin Peaks and it's strange how Peggy just disappears halfway through the 2nd season, and Heather Graham takes over as her character's sister.

Anjelica Huston could be interesting in Murphy’s world.

Anjelica Huston would be wasted in anything of his. So is anyone else who can act.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 24, 2020 11:48 PM |
I actually wonder why he hasn’t recast more of his cast from his earlier shows. He used Annalyn McCord in Nip/Tuck and then she left for 90210. He never hired her again. She would have worked well on Scream Queens.

Meredith Baxter, Stefanie Powers, Linda Gray...there's a plethora of 80s ladies he could reach out to. Anjelica should be next if it's a good script...she's picky about what she takes these days, so she might not settle for just any Murphy dreck.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 25, 2020 12:54 AM |
R35, Meredith Baxter was wasted on Glee. She and Patty Duke (HUGE missed opportunity) did one episode as a longtime lesbian couple that were Kurt & Blaine's relationship mentors. She'd probably never do it, but ... Victoria Principal.

R43, I’m in no rush to see Frances McDormand again after her undeserved second Oscar win. Her pissed off slattern act has gotten old.
Sissy Spacek, Anjelica Huston, Laurie Metcalf and Isabelle Adjani would be wonderful, inspired casting choices.
I know Ryan Murphy has mostly abandoned the casts of his pre-Glee shows, but Sara Rue (Popular) and Famke Janssen (Nip/Tuck) are talented actresses who get little opportunity to show what they are capable of these days.

I thought this was poor casting too. Was she an opera diva? I thought she was head of the drama school and therefore a grand actress like Marian Seldes.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 25, 2020 2:52 PM |
Morgan Fairchild would fit right in his campy nonsense.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 25, 2020 2:53 PM |
Famke Janssen was amazing on Nip/Tuck. She definitely deserves more roles.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 25, 2020 2:57 PM |
I’m not convinced that some of these mentions are still alive, but then again he does AHS, so getting dead actors on could work.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 25, 2020 2:59 PM |
Sean Young had a retuning role on a season of The Alienist, and she was OK.
Sigourney Weaver may be above it, though she is good when she does campy stuff.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 25, 2020 3:01 PM |
Some of them are simply too far gone. There aren't enough smoke and mirrors. Morgan Fairchild. But I suppose if they allowed themselves to be filmed in old age decrepitude. Faye Dunaway.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 25, 2020 3:02 PM |
Parker Posey.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 25, 2020 3:03 PM |
R61, I forget the exact line, but Kurt said something about Whoopi ejecting an audience member when playing Madea "and singing one of my 'I'm killing my baby' arias." It would have made more sense if she was a Marian Seldes type, but I guess they were going for Patti LuPone meets Beverly Sills.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 25, 2020 3:05 PM |
Remember Sarah Jessica Parker's brilliant comic turn as the fashion editor on GLEE? No?
Neither does anyone else.
Some of these diva casting stunts really don't pay off. (By contrast, even GOOP and Kristin Chenoweth were both funny and genuinely memorable in their recurring GLEE guest spots.)
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 25, 2020 3:14 PM |
Sissy Spacek, Frances McDormand,Angelica Houston are way better than that show. He just wants famous people’s lousy kids. We are stuck with that bitch Sarah Paulson getting the lead roles. Now that movie career tanked.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 25, 2020 3:17 PM |
Danny Pintauro and Mindy Cohn.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 25, 2020 3:24 PM |
I don't know what Murphy's take is on Susan Sarandon these days, but she did very well by him in FEUD. A great performance. She hasn't worked with him since. She did a recurring spot on RAY DONOVAN (did people care?) but otherwise her resume is mostly voiceover work these days.
If he has a soft spot for her, he should throw her a bone. She's jump for it.
I loathe her and her political pronouncements, but she's capable of very good work onscreen, despite it all.

Dianne Weist and Mia Farrow.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 25, 2020 3:34 PM |
Mindy Cohn could be charming.
Danny Pintauro would be a disaster as usual. He is to acting as Ryan Murphy is to directing: they do such a bad job of them that they both harm other gay people by association with their incompetence.
Get me Daniel J. Travanti.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 25, 2020 4:03 PM |

Dream casting: reunite the trio of young divas from “Little House”— Melissa Gilbert (who did a degrading guest spot on “Nip/Tuck”), Melissa Sue Anderson, and Allison Arngrim and let them tangle in campy grand guignol style.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | October 25, 2020 4:15 PM |
R79 Allison Arngrim would be late as some late19th- century shrew.

Great idea. I'd love to see him work with Sara Rue and Tammy Lynn Michaels (who started acting again after a loooooong break last year.)
He at least had Leslie Bibb and Bryce Johnson on Nip/Tuck.

Donna Mills, Heather Thomas.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | October 25, 2020 6:07 PM |
I seem to remember hearing he alienated a lot of the Nip/Tuck cast when he disappeared from the show to work on other projects and the scripts stopped making sense.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | October 25, 2020 6:07 PM |
R83 Lol, scripts not making sense is a Ryan Murphy trademark.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | October 25, 2020 6:31 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 85 | October 25, 2020 6:34 PM |
Is there anyone as old as Ryan Murphy now that Olivia died?
by Anonymous | reply 86 | October 25, 2020 6:41 PM |
Donna Mills and Joan Van Ark were on 'Nip-Tuck'. I never watched it, but my friend DVR'd the ep just so I could see the two of them on there. Deborah Shelton was in this ep as well...I'd totally forgotten.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | October 25, 2020 8:49 PM |
Nip/Tuck started getting really wonderful guest stars around season 4, but that was right when the show itself was tanking. The storylines were getting stale and the characters stopped making sense. Murphy thought turning it into The Love Boat with a few special guest stars every week could dazzle people into thinking the show still had something to say. Season 4 was a true embarrassment of riches with everyone from Kathleen Turner, Rosie O'Donnell, Brooke Shields, Melissa Gilbert, Jacqueline Bisset, and even Catherine Deneuve showing up.
This is one of Murphy's greatest gifts. He's able to get really wonderful actors to sign on to do his shows with usually only a rough sketch of their character and storyline. The scripts themselves seem to be written the night before they shoot.

Nicole is technically doing a film with him based on a play that wasn't actually written by him.
Sandra just had the number two most streamed film in history.
Beyond that she only works when she feels like it. She does not need Ryan Murphy's "help."
