Movies about someone displaying compassion, humor, innovation in the face of adversity
I HATE these stupid interview exercises. Got a friend interviewing for a job and she's been asked to choose a movie (or play) that represents her. The actual question is "If you were a scene from a movie or play, what would you be? Tell us why."
The job is for being some program director of a youth arts program.
I suggested she figure out what qualities she wants to highlight and then work backward from there -- picking a movie or play scene that reflects those qualities. She liked that idea and wants to demonstrate compassion, a sense of humor, innovation in the face of adversity.
Any thoughts?

Valley of the Dolls, obviously.

All that comes to mind are "Casablanca", and "Harold and Maude".
I really don't think the latter would go over big with a youth group, not an old woman urging a death-obsessed young man to live and love live, and seducing him after he's glimpsed her concentration camp tattoo.

Maybe your friend needs to do her own thinking.

Places that ask these types of things are usually bad places to work for. They're not able to keep staff and they are always hiring

HR departments are now asking essay questions before the person has had an interview? And they’re asking about scenes from movies & plays?
Forgive my disbelieve.....but, really, OP? You’re scraping bottom now.

A) Nothing obvious, especially relating to kids and arts and B) The more obscure the better and most likely plays over movies as they will be less known.

The scene in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? when Blanche is dying, and Jane finds out that she (Jane) didn't put her sister in that wheelchair:
the interviewee can just quote the youtube notes: Social attitudes change and are represented in how disabled people are portrayed, but strong stereotypes rooted in past attitudes and cultures persist and are often recycled, reinforcing negative treatment of disabled people.

You have to know the film to know that this scene does it all:

Gabourey Sidibe in "Precious." Have your friend say that, thanks to the gift of willpower, she went down from two buckets of fried chicken on the way to school to just one. Now she's on the fast track to slimtown!

"As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're are not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when its all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat, or kill, as God is my witness I'll never be hungry again."

Little Miss Sunshine? The pageant part, obviously, not the dead grandpa and the gay porn magazines part (although that was a brilliant display of resourcefulness in the face of a cop).
