None of this matters

In 50 years we’ll be dead.

by Anonymousreply 35October 25, 2020 8:03 AM

Or much, much sooner.

by Anonymousreply 1October 24, 2020 8:53 PM

Sshhh... think of the twenty-somethings here. They may have a little longer unless our ecosystem fails in the next fifty years.

Ultimately, the dying sun will expand and burn the earth to a crisp.

R2 One of New Zealand DLers says Miami will be under water within 29 years.

by Anonymousreply 4October 24, 2020 9:13 PM

I’m trying to hold out until 75 (21 more years) so I can start smoking again.

by Anonymousreply 5October 24, 2020 9:18 PM

[quote]In 50 years we’ll be dead.

You seriously underestimate the age of most DLers

But just imagine how tan I'll be

R4 I wouldn't be surprised if it happened any sooner.

by Anonymousreply 9October 24, 2020 9:41 PM

But we’re here now. That definitely matters to me.

by Anonymousreply 10October 24, 2020 9:43 PM

R10 As it should for all of us. Live it up, and stay in the present everyone.

by Anonymousreply 11October 24, 2020 9:46 PM

I can't imagine what the cost of cigarettes will be in 21 years R5. I just looked up a carton of Marlboro and it was $72 plus change for a carton and that was at Costco.

by Anonymousreply 12October 24, 2020 9:52 PM

I think it all matters and I’ll likely be dead much sooner.

by Anonymousreply 13October 24, 2020 9:53 PM

Speak for yourself.

by Anonymousreply 14October 24, 2020 9:54 PM

R12 That's actually a very good deal. In Chicago they're ranging $13-14 a pack.

by Anonymousreply 15October 24, 2020 9:56 PM

Why would ANYONE still smoke cigarettes in this day and age, knowing what we know?

People are dumb.

by Anonymousreply 16October 24, 2020 9:59 PM

In 50 years I’ll only be 106.

by Anonymousreply 17October 24, 2020 10:05 PM

R16 People are also judgmental, and probably should mind their own business as well.

by Anonymousreply 18October 24, 2020 10:06 PM

I’m 65 so I’ll let you all know how the other side is!

by Anonymousreply 19October 24, 2020 10:08 PM

Live in the present? Have you SEEN the present?

by Anonymousreply 20October 24, 2020 10:08 PM

I'm oddly numb after my died of COVID earlier this year (damn you, Trump!) but maybe that's because I know I'll die soon.

I would love to have one last great year; travel, sex, great food and wine. Time with friends.

Then I can go.

Life really is short.

by Anonymousreply 21October 24, 2020 10:11 PM

R20 If you have a Tardis, I'd certainly beg of you a ride, but I think you know what I meant. Live for today, try to stay in the moment. Yes, things are positively dreadful at the moment, but it's how we live through this that really matters.

by Anonymousreply 22October 24, 2020 10:13 PM

Our condolence on the loss of your, r21.

by Anonymousreply 23October 24, 2020 10:15 PM

R21 = left out 'mother'

let's not analyze why

after all, if it's not one thing it's your mother

by Anonymousreply 24October 24, 2020 10:16 PM

Sorry about your mother r21.

by Anonymousreply 25October 24, 2020 10:30 PM

Thankfully I am 71 and won't have to be around much longer. I have been studying the destruction of the planet for the last 10 years and I don't think civilization will last much longer. Some pockets of people may be around by the beginning of the next century like little tribes. 75% of the bug population has been lost in the last 25 years and the animal would is quickly becoming extinct. Every year is hotter and hotter. This last year was the hottest in recorded history. We cannot live on a planet that has been so degraded, it will become uninhabitable.

by Anonymousreply 26October 24, 2020 10:34 PM

Ill be 79 in 50 yrs. Ill prob be half robot by then

by Anonymousreply 27October 24, 2020 10:35 PM

Thank goodness FDR didn't think that way, you NINNY.

by Anonymousreply 28October 24, 2020 10:38 PM

R27 mte. I'd be in my 70s too, though I'm so exhausted and over it already idk that I'll make it to 50. I don't really want a fucking chip in my brain or nanorobots in my blood or bionic eyeballs with Google inbuilt, but all that creepy cybernetic shit is probably around the corner, isn't it?

Once I was hoping for a Bowie-esque lifespan and death, ideally, but given the outlook that's a high hope.

by Anonymousreply 29October 24, 2020 11:47 PM

R29 lol me either man. Freaks me out. Somehow they’ll convince us that a chip in our brain will help us. I’m thinking I’ll have some bionic limbs.

by Anonymousreply 30October 25, 2020 12:09 AM

Won't make it to 2525

by Anonymousreply 31October 25, 2020 12:15 AM

It won't take 50 years if Trump is re-elected.

by Anonymousreply 32October 25, 2020 12:31 AM

righto, try like 10 years

by Anonymousreply 33October 25, 2020 1:07 AM

[quote] In 50 years we’ll be dead.

That’s the only way I can deal with the horror that today’s young people, with their economic and social fantasies, will someday be in complete control.

by Anonymousreply 34October 25, 2020 4:59 AM

R25, thanks

we haven't been able to have a memorial for her; she said she didn't want one, but it's not for her; it's for us.

the saving grace is I didn't have to sit in a pew in between my brothers and their wives (we're not close) in a church in front of other people thinking we were.

but someday I'd like there to be a memorial.
