If this were a story about the mutilation of women, (such as botched home abortions, mastectomies, etc.), both the thread and the story linked here would treat it with much more reverence.
For some reason, news of men being mutilated, regardless of whether they acted carelessly or not, is always treated with laughter, snark, and puns.
Why is that? Some young man, and several others apparently did something very carelessly. To have that done to themselves means they were either psychologically vulnerable or unimaginably desperate. People do stupid and/or careless things with they're sick or desperate.
So why are stories of men being mutilated by having their penises and testicles cut off, oftentimes in acts of violence, so humorous to so many people, like R1? Why do women receive so much more understanding and sympathy than men, especially gay men in these incidences?

R11, this is part of the castration fetish/subculture. Yes, there are guys who get off fantasizing about being castrated, and some guys who are so into it, they actually seek out someone to do it to them.
Any extreme sexual subculture is going to attract predators, and this fellow was unfortunate enough to meet up with a couple of them. But think: what kind of people are going to agree to whack off your nuts? Pretty damned dangerous people. He didn't think that through, he was so intent on getting what he wanted. Well, sadly, he got what he wanted, but it was much worse than he'd imagined.
A lot of the joking is of the 'yikes, what was he thinking?' type. The overwhelming majority of men (and women, too) cannot fathom anyone taking a sexual fetish to this extreme. Not when the end result is a permanent diminution of your sex life afterwards.

Don't ask how I knew about this kind of activity. I can't discuss it. Attorney-Client privilege.

That's true, R12, but R11 is right. If the fetish were women choosing to have unnecessary mastectomies, the story wouldn't be treated as a joke.
Oh, wait, that actually happens. OK, it would be treated as a story about transmen asserting their own truths. Still, there would be outrage, not humor, that someone was taking advantage of their voyage of discovery, their right to be whatever gender they want. Humor? You must be joking, except THAT'S NOT FUNNY.

[quote]According to the affidavit of probable cause, the man told deputies he had come into contact with Allen on a membership website about becoming a eunuch. Allen told him he had 15 years of experience and that he would castrate the man for free. So, he flew into town and made his way to Allen's house.
Well, at least he was an experienced professional.
