Well done Australia.
I live in Australia.
This looks funny, but when it happens to you, it's terrifying!
They are evil little bastards!!

Team Magpie

He’s lucky that he’s wearing a helmet. I’ve seen people covered in blood from magpie attacks. They’re very territorial, especially in Spring.

Hitchcock's THE BIRDS in real life.

I know that people are going to say that I'm tragically clueless, but I would have NEVER imagined that it was possible for anything other than carrion birds, to attack people.
Anyway, I guess that for a child, this would be really scary, even if it looks hilarious. Still, I somehow don't believe that a magpie could attack a full grown adult.

Heh heh heh. Too bad it wasn’t a pterodactyl.

"They are evil little bastards!!"
R1, are you talking about the birds, or the children?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 28, 2020 9:12 PM |
Crow attacks are on the rise. They have learnt from magpies!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 28, 2020 9:20 PM |
I am wondering why the Magpie left the person filming alone.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 28, 2020 9:22 PM |
Magpies are oddly attracted to jewellery... A friend was polishing some silver articles outside, and had removed her rings... A Magpie swooped down and flew away with one. It really was quite startling. It's very easy to hate them, even as an animal lover. I've heard of them attacking small dogs as well.

I was once "terrorized" by crows whenever I walked through a block between my house and the market.
This went on for weeks until one day I had the idea to lift my jacket up high over my head (like I was spreading my wings) and the attacks stopped.

The best part of the video is the asshole fixed on getting the shot and doing NOTHING to help protect a small child. What a piece of work that guy is.

In America we have “swallows” which can be quite predatory
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 28, 2020 9:42 PM |
I would bust out laughing if the magpie attacked the OP and drew blood.

They got nothing on wild Turkeys in the US who will stalk and harass you indefinitely.

Magpies 𝑎𝑟𝑒 carrion birds, R6. It's what they primarily eat.

Are magpies the French Bulldogs of the bird kingdom?

Kids are alright. But I definitely laughed at this.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 28, 2020 10:59 PM |
They’re highly territorial when they have a nest full of chicks nearby. I read somewhere that they also yank out hair as they use that to build their nests - not too sure about that one though.
This is why most bike riders in Australia (and maybe elsewhere - not sure about that either) glue plastic spikes to their helmets, as for some reason magpies go crazy with cyclists.
Actually, I’m with the magpies on that one.

I wasn’t joking at r15. They will swarm and dive bomb you and scare the shit out of a child. Here to attest.

Lol. It was funny without sound, then I watched it with sound, and it was hilarious.

OP you have issues dude
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 29, 2020 5:21 PM |
These birds are not magpies. They’re in the Butcher bird family. Magpies that live in North America and Europe are in the Crow family. The Aussies call them magpies only because their colors make them look similar to the European magpie. North American and European magpies will not attack you. They’ll stay in the trees and screech at intruders. What’s really neat about these butcher birds is that they have very musical sounds.

I have birds on my property that dive at me every spring when they are sitting on eggs.
