Trump Claims Coronavirus Will Disappear Thanks to ‘Herd Mentality’ During ABC Town Hall

[QUOTE]”With time it goes away. And you’ll develop, you’ll develop, like a herd mentality it’s going to be it’s going to be herd developed and that’s going to happen.” Trump likely meant herd immunity, which experts say will not resolve the Coronavirus.

No, herd mentality is what got him elected.

by Anonymousreply 1September 16, 2020 2:39 AM

You know what is going away?

Jobs.

Jobs have been removed from the economy in the SIX MONTHS we have been in quarantine.

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2020 2:39 AM

I know most of you know this, but it is herd immunity. I would call that a Freudian slip, but it is just really him exposing his ignorance.

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2020 2:46 AM

Thanks for the pertinent information, you dumb tub of shit.

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2020 2:52 AM

Additionally, Trump also said that it's Joe Biden's fault for not doing a national mask mandate.

People are still dying from the covid en masse every day in the US. Why are the media so quiet about this right now? If you want to get rid of the Turd, you need to report the daily death toll in the headline day in day out since it is the most terrifying aspect of this shitty virus.

so many "who thought this was a good idea?" comments

by Anonymousreply 30September 16, 2020 5:03 AM

Who thinks anything Trump does is a good idea? But that just goes to show that nobody can control him. He keeps making these absolutely terrible decisions, like the Corona virus press briefings. He came off terribly in every single one of them, but he couldn't help himself.

6 million is the official number of people who've had coronavirus in the US, but estimates are more like 30 to 40 million because we aren't doing adequate testing. Getting to herd immunity would likely mean hundreds of thousands more deaths.

by Anonymousreply 31September 16, 2020 5:31 AM

[quote] Laura Ingraham reframed this as "an ambush" on her show to spin it as a liberal attack on him. You know if it had gone well they'd be bragging

She did brag on Twitter. She said, “Total set up forum but Trump unflappable though.” She referred to a question from a voter that was actually an attack disguised as a question.

by Anonymousreply 66September 16, 2020 5:16 PM

Of course he meant herd immunity. The fact that he meant that but referred to it as herd mentality shows that he’s an idiot.

It also shows he’s still trying to minimize a virus that’s killed four times as many Americans in six months as died in Vietnam in ten years. Despite the fact that he’s also going around saying that he “up-plays” the virus instead of downplaying it. Which is what he’s on tape saying, for the record, to a veteran political journalist.

There, just another day in Trump World.

by Anonymousreply 67September 16, 2020 5:35 PM

He still thinks he can bullshit and bamboozle most Americans or talk his way out of any situation. The thing is, THERE ARE TAPES! And yes, some will still believe his lies and nonsense. Those people are a lost cause, not worth debating. The rest of us need to vote like never before so he can't claim it was rigged. This CANNOT be a close election.

by Anonymousreply 68September 16, 2020 5:39 PM

Oh Jesus fucking christ.

The minute the Woodword tapes came out I called that he would try and hide behind the "calming the populace" front. I really hope Biden takes him down on this BS.

by Anonymousreply 69September 16, 2020 5:48 PM

Trumpers don't listen to him or even care what he says or does. He hates the same people they do, and that's enough to make him qualified for the job, in their minds. The only thing they have left to hang on to is the (R) after his name, and that's enough for them. It's all about "owning the libs" for them and that's all they care about.

by Anonymousreply 74September 16, 2020 6:08 PM

To expand on R73, the smallpox vaccine created herd immunity for smallpox. Before the vaccine existed, a lot of people that got smallpox died, and the ones that survived weren’t enough immune people to stop new people from getting smallpox. It was never enough to do that, for centuries. And you could only get smallpox once and then you were immune. Covid natural immunity seems to be pretty short. So achieving herd immunity for Covid, which is extremely contagious, isn’t going to happen either.

If a Covid vaccine doesn’t get distributed enough to create herd immunity, my guess is it will be like smallpox, just go on forever in waves. Unless people learn to wear masks and stay home as a semi-permanent lifestyle that lasts for years.

When the polio vaccine first came out, people were in a rush to get everyone vaccinated and schoolchildren had to have it or they couldn’t be admitted to school. There were mass vaccinations. A few people had bad reactions and got sick or even died. But in those days, people put the community first and understood it had to be done for the greater good, risk or not.

People don’t understand that now. Wait until a few kids have a bad reaction to the Covid vaccine, and you’ll have parents that refuse to vaccinate their kids fucking it up for everyone.

by Anonymousreply 75September 17, 2020 1:17 AM

[quote] I thought they were the party of Lincoln. —Didn't he free some slaves or something?

You have to remember that the Republican Party hasn't progressed one iota since then then though. They have opposed every bit of progress since the civil war.

by Anonymousreply 76September 17, 2020 2:20 AM

I believe Lincoln would be aghast at today's version of the Republican Party.

by Anonymousreply 77September 17, 2020 2:39 AM

[quote] Covid natural immunity seems to be pretty short.

What if everyone got a shot once or twice a year? That could lead to herd mentality.

by Anonymousreply 79September 17, 2020 3:19 AM

I had my flu shot a couple of days ago and I said to the nurse, I heard these are only good for six months. He agreed. He said, this will get you through to March so you’ll be covered.

If Covid shots are only good for six months, you might have to take one in fall and spring. That means a huge ramp up of production. Billions of shots every fall and spring.

Biden said today that one of the shots being proposed had to be stored at minus 70 degrees. He said they could only produce them en masse in huge numbers of doses, and since they’re hard to store, you wouldn’t be getting them at Walgreens. Maybe you would have to get them at a hospital. More delays.

by Anonymousreply 80September 17, 2020 5:51 AM

Interesting, R80, though I do wonder, if flu shots are only good for six months as the nurse said, then why aren't we encouraged to get them twice a year instead of just in the fall?

by Anonymousreply 81September 17, 2020 6:25 AM

My GP told me the same, in regard to the flu shot's efficacy, R80. We get a local surge of it in February - March so he recommended I put off getting mine until after Halloween. Since I started following his suggestion, I've managed to avoid getting the flu.

by Anonymousreply 82September 17, 2020 12:17 PM

I always wait until the end of the year for a flu shot, to prolong it efficacy into the new year.

by Anonymousreply 83September 17, 2020 2:15 PM

Fauci says mid to late October is the best time.

by Anonymousreply 84September 17, 2020 2:27 PM

Honestly, people: It's HERD MORALITY. That is Trump's ace in the hole, and I do mean hole.

by Anonymousreply 85September 17, 2020 2:39 PM

There can be no herd immunity for coronavirus for the same reason there is no herd immunity with the flu or the common cold of which coronavirus is related. The antibodies are not lifelong. They dissipate to nothing after some months. Moreover should a vaccine be able to circumvent these problems (Probably second or third generation) think of all the people who will die under "herd immunity" before they had a chance to get that vaccine.

by Anonymousreply 86September 17, 2020 2:46 PM

[quote] think of all the people who will die under "herd immunity" before they had a chance to get that vaccine.

Those would be the people who are going to die anyway since there is currently no vaccine. No extra people are required to die as we progress to herd immunity.

by Anonymousreply 87September 17, 2020 3:15 PM

This morning WH Chief of staff Mark Meadows said CDC Director Robert Redfield is not tuned into what those “closest to the process” know about when the public will have access to a vaccine.

The CDC wrote the playbook outlining vaccine distribution.

by Anonymousreply 88September 17, 2020 3:31 PM

You think if Trump asked Mark Meadows to lick his asshole clean after taking a wicked shit, that Meadows would gladly do it?

by Anonymousreply 89September 17, 2020 6:40 PM

R87, that's not true. The current medical advise is to avoid getting COVID-19 by wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, etc. Obviously, if you do not get COVID-19, it can't kill you. Herd immunity, as advocated by the Trump administration, means that everyone who possibly can should get the virus, and therefore no one should wear a mask or take other precautions. That means that, inevitably, more people will become sick, the healthcare system will be swamped, and more people will die.

by Anonymousreply 90September 17, 2020 6:50 PM

Former RNC Chairman Michael Steele on MSNBC:

"I'm exhausted... the fact that we have to literally beg people to wear a mask to save their own dumb ass from getting sick? I'm sorry. To me it is beyond the imagination."

by Anonymousreply 91September 17, 2020 6:51 PM

To 87: of course. I didn't respond because the poster seemed to be playing on people's ignorance. Maybe he/she should go to a lesser board.

by Anonymousreply 92September 17, 2020 7:55 PM

R81, because flu season is mostly October to March. I got mine early because this year is unusual and I was concerned they might run out early. Last year I got my flu shot late - January. They were out then and I had to go someplace else. Also, I got the MMR shot in May. Right about that time there was some news that it might help people fight off Covid, and they were out. They had to order it for me, and I had to go in early because a lot of people wanted it. I never had it as a child, so I needed it anyway. I’ve been trying to get as many vaccinations as I can.

FYI, if you get the MMR, it interacts with Prednisone and lowers your immune system. The two medications should be taken at least a month apart. If you take prednisone, don’t get the MMR if you can avoid it. I practically had to wear a space suit every time I went out for a couple of months until I was over the prednisone. I didn’t know the prednisone was coming up or I never would have done that.

by Anonymousreply 93September 17, 2020 8:27 PM

Olivia Troye, who worked as homeland security, counterterrorism and coronavirus adviser to Vice President Pence for two years, said that the administration’s COVID-19 response cost lives and that she will vote for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden this fall because of her experience in the Trump White House.

President Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic showed a “flat out disregard for human life” because his “main concern was the economy and his reelection,” she said in an interview.

by Anonymousreply 94September 17, 2020 8:33 PM

She’s already being called “disgruntled,” just like all the others that quit or were whistleblowers.

Neither Trump or Pence has enough self awareness to ask themselves why so many people are “disgruntled” when according to them, everything’s going great.

Another one: DeVos' former top aide joins anti-Trump group.

Josh Venable, the former chief of staff to Education Secretary Betsy Devos, has joined another former Trump administration official's group opposing the president.

Venable is lending his name as an adviser to the Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform, a group former Department of Homeland Security official Miles Taylor launched on Thursday of current and former Trump administration officials and other Republican leaders who want to see President Donald Trump defeated in November.

A current senior administration official is also part of the group, but Taylor declined to share that person's name.

I think I disagree: as we come down to the wire, this administration is acting like a rabid, wild animal backed into a corner. They will certainly remember who turned against them in this moment. To take a turn poking the beast at this juncture takes shows bravery than someone like Will Hurd who quietly backed away a year ago and has yet to bother to do anything to save the Republic even though he certainly must know where some of the bodies are buried.

by Anonymousreply 100September 17, 2020 11:54 PM
