The number of views for even very popular threads seldom exceed the 2000s or 3000s and those wildly exceed the viewing numbers for a lot of lesser threads (in the low three figures, or two figures.) I've never seen it called out in the media except maybe once on my own and a handful of times that someone has pointed out a reference to DL within DL. Few (maybe very few) gay Americans have ever heard of it.

I was at a friend's birthday party last month, outdoors at a place with picnic tables and a dozen food trucks. There were about 60-70 mostly gay guys there, all socially distancing, etc.

While I was walking back to my table, I passed a couple who were talking with another guy, kind of loudly given the circumstances. One of the seated guys asked the guy standing, "Do you have sizemeat verification?"

Granted, it was not verificatia, but it was close enough. The guy who said it looked to be Filipino or some kind of southeast Asian behind his mask. I snorted to myself and walked by. I had never seen any of those guys before. It was a 50th birthday party, so the age range seems about right.

Why would a gay owned cafe suspect you? Are you the only gay person who visits? And do you wear some kind of gay uniform?

On a certain level, I WAS guilty. I mean I linked to their place and said these are the gays who run it - 20 minutes later...[bold]blood on the sidewalk.[/bold] I wasn't to know quite how aggressive the DL was going to be. The only time I've mentioned DL to anyone was to a friend who liked to be cutting and witty - or so he thought. It was interesting that he didn't take to it. So just being the garden variety bitchy gay is not it either.

The way posters are always screaming MUTILATION, gay Americans are not well represented here, so I doubt the site is well-known to them.

I am constantly surprised how many gay men I know have heard of Datalounge even if they don't come here. I know not only one person from my class in college comes here from how he has self-identified, but he is even from my dorm! (Adams House '88, I see you.) If this is who i think it is he lives on the other side of the country from me. So it does seem to be in the air.

And of course many celebrities have referred to us--always as a pit of vipers. Rosie O'Donnell, Michael Musto, Andy Cohen... Perez Hilton, who claims he doesn't come here, but still somehow knows he used to always be referred to here as the Giant Olmec Head...

My BF gave me his laptop to use when my PC died, and I had him open DL to test it. He read 'enter the bitchfest' with raised eyebrows, but without further comment. I think Manvox is better known in Europe than is DL, but DL is better known among its primary US target audience.
