As a foreign DLer, I often wonder this.
Do most GAY AMERICANS know about Datalounge?
|by Anonymous||reply 54||09/16/2020|
No, hardly any gays I know have heard of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 1||09/15/2020|
Most gay men would be appalled at DataLounge, because their stupid cunts
|by Anonymous||reply 2||09/15/2020|
|by Anonymous||reply 3||09/15/2020|
The ones obsessed with entertainment gossip, for sure.
|by Anonymous||reply 4||09/15/2020|
I should have chosen a better pic.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||09/15/2020|
More would pretend not to know than would admit to knowing.
|by Anonymous||reply 6||09/15/2020|
how were we described again? a vile pit of cuntery, or some such?
|by Anonymous||reply 7||09/15/2020|
No, not at all.
The number of views for even very popular threads seldom exceed the 2000s or 3000s and those wildly exceed the viewing numbers for a lot of lesser threads (in the low three figures, or two figures.) I've never seen it called out in the media except maybe once on my own and a handful of times that someone has pointed out a reference to DL within DL. Few (maybe very few) gay Americans have ever heard of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 8||09/15/2020|
Let's keep it our little secret, shall we?
|by Anonymous||reply 9||09/15/2020|
It’s rather an elite thing for the very best gays.
|by Anonymous||reply 10||09/15/2020|
Probably many turn up, turn round, and never come back.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||09/15/2020|
If DL isn't the home of gay, what website is? (No porn websites, please.)
|by Anonymous||reply 12||09/15/2020|
There's a wikipedia entry about DataLounge. That's progress.
"approximately 6.5 million page views each month, according to its webmaster (as of June 2006). Mediapolis, a New York City interactive media company, created the site in May 1995."
I've noticed recently that the number of views of some threads I like go down, like the number has been reset to zero.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||09/15/2020|
how were we described again? a vile pit of cuntery, or some such?
Vile pit of trollery.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||09/15/2020|
I've never known anyone else (gay or straight) who was aware of it.
|by Anonymous||reply 15||09/15/2020|
God, I hope not!!! Can you imagine if Muriel just let ANYONE and EVERYONE in this club!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 16||09/15/2020|
I thought I heard someone say “Jackie OnAssistance” on the street. I looked all around and suddenly felt I had given myself away.
I’ve used DL lingo in the company of others and it always seems like risky business!
|by Anonymous||reply 17||09/15/2020|
I've never known anyone else (gay or straight) who was aware of it.
I once posted about a place here in England, a gay-owned cafe. Next time I went back, it was clear they had read the thread...it was MOST unpleasant and it wasn't ME who was cunty about them. But it seems they thought it was. It was everyone else.
|by Anonymous||reply 18||09/15/2020|
I once saw a man wearing a Helen Lawson t-shirt at Vons and knew he had to be a DLer. I also knew to give him a wide berth!
|by Anonymous||reply 19||09/15/2020|
I don't think so. I consider DL a hidden gem and I'd like to keep it that way.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||09/15/2020|
God, I hope not!!! Can you imagine if Muriel just let ANYONE and EVERYONE in this club!!!!
This how I feel when I post on Facebook or the dreaded Twitter. I think "Who ARE these people?" I really only like to talk with gays on the internet. Or DL gays maybe. I forgive them anything for some reason. But someone (a hetero) crosses me on some other forum and I seeth for ages.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||09/15/2020|
R18, why would they think it was you?
|by Anonymous||reply 22||09/15/2020|
Sorry, R12. There is no “home of the gay” in the US. We can’t agree on anything.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||09/15/2020|
I was at a friend's birthday party last month, outdoors at a place with picnic tables and a dozen food trucks. There were about 60-70 mostly gay guys there, all socially distancing, etc.
While I was walking back to my table, I passed a couple who were talking with another guy, kind of loudly given the circumstances. One of the seated guys asked the guy standing, "Do you have sizemeat verification?"
Granted, it was not verificatia, but it was close enough. The guy who said it looked to be Filipino or some kind of southeast Asian behind his mask. I snorted to myself and walked by. I had never seen any of those guys before. It was a 50th birthday party, so the age range seems about right.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||09/15/2020|
Why would a gay owned cafe suspect you? Are you the only gay person who visits? And do you wear some kind of gay uniform?
|by Anonymous||reply 25||09/15/2020|
[R18], why would they think it was you?
I think because I referred to something I bought there, which is what the thread was about. I can't remember exactly. But I went back and they sort of circled me. It was horrible. At first, I thought I was imagining it. But I was not. I walked by sometime later and one of them was scowling at me through the window.
I've never posted about this before. I thought of bumping the thread and telling everyone but I thought against it.
|by Anonymous||reply 26||09/15/2020|
Do it r26.
|by Anonymous||reply 27||09/15/2020|
I have DATALOUNGE screened on my t-shirts!!! Loud and proud, girls!!!!
|by Anonymous||reply 28||09/15/2020|
Bump it and tell everyone what happened to me, R27?
I can't bear to re-read it.
On a certain level, I WAS guilty. I mean I linked to their place and said these are the gays who run it - 20 minutes later...[bold]blood on the sidewalk.[/bold] I wasn't to know quite how aggressive the DL was going to be. They (the cafe owners) got the FULL treatment. If you've been here a while I'm sure you can imagine.
The thread was only around for a VERY short time. About an hour. Can't remember how many people even posted.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||09/15/2020|
Do most GAY AMERICANS know about Datalounge?
Just the cute ones.
|by Anonymous||reply 30||09/15/2020|
My great aunt is 93. During our last visit she used the phrase “this will end in tears.” So I started snorting like a pig to let the bitch know that I’m on to her!
|by Anonymous||reply 31||09/15/2020|
Most gay Americans are busy posting selfies on Instagram and running to Facebook for validation.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||09/15/2020|
No, it's not known to many. It's for gays with a certain cuntalicious culture nor just any homosexualist. There is a certain hive mind here as suggested in this thread. Let me see if I can post the link.
The only time I've mentioned DL to anyone was to a friend who liked to be cutting and witty - or so he thought. It was interesting that he didn't take to it. So just being the garden variety bitchy gay is not it either.
|by Anonymous||reply 33||09/15/2020|
Hey Cunt R33, you just linked to DL's entire threadlist.
|by Anonymous||reply 34||09/15/2020|
Heehee I'm an idjit. How do I link a thread?
|by Anonymous||reply 35||09/15/2020|
The way posters are always screaming MUTILATION, gay Americans are not well represented here, so I doubt the site is well-known to them.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||09/15/2020|
First of all, let me say how much I love the photos OP chose to illustrate 'most gay Americans"--as if we are mostly all muscular go-go boys in Speedos milling about or dancing in gay beach resort towns.
I am constantly surprised how many gay men I know have heard of Datalounge even if they don't come here. I know not only one person from my class in college comes here from how he has self-identified, but he is even from my dorm! (Adams House '88, I see you.) If this is who i think it is he lives on the other side of the country from me. So it does seem to be in the air.
And of course many celebrities have referred to us--always as a pit of vipers. Rosie O'Donnell, Michael Musto, Andy Cohen... Perez Hilton, who claims he doesn't come here, but still somehow knows he used to always be referred to here as the Giant Olmec Head...
|by Anonymous||reply 37||09/15/2020|
Giant Olmec Head. That must be been before my time here. ROFL
|by Anonymous||reply 38||09/15/2020|
Only the louchest of the homosexual demimonde are found here.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||09/15/2020|
My BF gave me his laptop to use when my PC died, and I had him open DL to test it. He read 'enter the bitchfest' with raised eyebrows, but without further comment. I mentioned, "her collapse is complete" to a younger co-worker when one of our management team was fired, hoping he'd pick up on it, but he didn't (although he liked the phrase).
|by Anonymous||reply 40||09/15/2020|
I think Manvox is better known in Europe than is DL, but DL is better known among its primary US target audience.
|by Anonymous||reply 41||09/15/2020|
We prefer places like this that are exclusive and restricted.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||09/15/2020|
I've told some friends about it. Most come back bemused.
|by Anonymous||reply 43||09/15/2020|
We are not here to BEMUSE your friends.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||09/15/2020|
I think I stumbled upon DL by accident when I Googled something really dumb and gay, and a link to DL showed up. The rest is history.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||09/15/2020|
Who knows! What I do know is that every guy in OP's photo is 65 years old or older.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||09/15/2020|
I am not bemused.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||09/15/2020|
I’m shocked how few do. I guess I’ve been around forever - so assume others are obsessed with it too. I guess they have real, productive, meaningful lives - good for them. Now, what about Kegan....
|by Anonymous||reply 48||09/15/2020|
R45, same here.
I can't remember exactly what thread brought me here, but I'm pretty sure it was the Alice theme song thread that convinced me to stay.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||09/15/2020|
How could they NOT know, after the classic commercial?
|by Anonymous||reply 50||09/15/2020|
Lol thanks r50 I'd forgotten that commercial 😂😂
|by Anonymous||reply 51||09/16/2020|
Most DLers with any self-respect are ashamed to come here so often and will never bring it up in conversation because once their friends or coworkers know that they come to this cesspool it won’t look good on them.
|by Anonymous||reply 52||09/16/2020|
R45 Same here, I was googling something about Kris Jenner and Nicole Brown Simpson abiut a decade ago, and a thread about Kris Nicole and Faye came up about how they were all party whores in 1980s LA and doing cocaine and sleeping around with various sleazy wealthy men.
I've been here ever since.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||09/16/2020|
No. A few older ones playing on computers do, but most gays I know have no time for this. I'm newly retired at 58, cannot relate to many of the "old" themes, references or people here. Still, the year of discovery has been fun.
