Because of course.

So the State Dept wrote a paper saying that Muslims object to gays and that this is controversial - and mother jones decides that this means the State Dept is "elevating religion" over LGBQ and is therefore "anti LGBQ"?

The same State Dept who has a spacific campaign to end the criminalisation of homosexuality around the world?

Meanwhile here on Datalounge Islam if regularly defended even though their adherents throw gays off roofs.

Pompeo's a born again nutcase right wing Christian, so what did you expect?

The solution is at hand though....it's called VOTING on November 3rd against the Orange Cretin and ALL his deputies.

by Anonymousreply 2September 14, 2020 10:36 PM

R1 "Since its formation, the commission has been a Pompeo project through and through, stacked with anti-LGBTQ scholars and headed by his former boss. Its ostensible purpose, which Pompeo outlined in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, was to distinguish between unalienable rights, which “are by nature universal,” and ad hoc rights created by “politicians and bureaucrats.” That argument—and the extremely public, anti-LGBTQ views held by its members—led the human rights advocacy community to disavow the commission and its report, which unsurprisingly turned out to prioritize religious freedom while labeling abortion and same-sex marriage as “divisive social and political controversies.”

by Anonymousreply 3September 14, 2020 10:37 PM

R1 If you actually bothered to read what you are linking to, you will see that the Trump administration only issued that statement (back in February 2019) as an attack against Iran, not out of genuine acceptance of the worldwide gay community and our rights.

This is where people play the harm and they gorge on buffets at the American taxpayers expense.

Mrs. Pompeo was “heavily involved” in matters related to her husband’s job, from managing his social calendar to weighing in on hiring decisions to selecting fonts. Several said that she ordered them around on personal errands.

by Anonymousreply 12September 14, 2020 10:54 PM

Staffers also say that they were expected to be at the couple’s beck and call at all times; one said that they treated their diplomatic security agents as “UberEats with guns,” referring to the meal delivery service.

by Anonymousreply 13September 14, 2020 10:54 PM

R8 Nice strawman lol. Only a mentally ill troll would take the effort to pretend like Trump is good for gay people.

by Anonymousreply 14September 14, 2020 10:58 PM

Quite big tits @R10.

by Anonymousreply 15September 14, 2020 11:00 PM

Perfect. The collection of whores and grifters that is the Trump Administration, the people who stick kids in cages, the racists and neo Nazis and all around scumbags that govern this country are now going to hold forth on Human Rights. Splendid.

by Anonymousreply 16September 14, 2020 11:03 PM

Another troll thread

by Anonymousreply 17September 14, 2020 11:07 PM

They’re coming for us mark my words. If that thing gets re-elected there won’t be anything to keep them from tormenting us and taking away our hard fought for rights. They’ll get those QAnon idiots juiced up on some conspiracy theory that will make them lash out at us. Dark times.

by Anonymousreply 18September 14, 2020 11:14 PM

r18 I am thinking the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 19September 14, 2020 11:16 PM

The only nation states in the UN that hold these views are African and Muslim states. Everybody else mocks Trump and they look forward to his demise.

Still its shocking to see the USA take this archaic position.

by Anonymousreply 20September 15, 2020 1:32 AM

R8, why defend conservatives when they hate us?

by Anonymousreply 21September 15, 2020 1:35 AM

2nd wife and stepson. Pompeo spends a lot of time throwing taxpayer-funded parties for himself to drum-up interest in his future political career.

At this stage you have to wonder why these guys are still going so gung ho on things like this. Surely they know by now that Trump is going to lose and they'll all be gone in a few months and all these bullshit policies Trump has enacted will be reversed.

by Anonymousreply 23September 15, 2020 1:41 AM

I'll remind my relatives once again - that their vote for this scumbag is obviously intentional against me.

by Anonymousreply 24September 15, 2020 1:43 AM

[Quote] The same State Dept who has a spacific campaign to end the criminalisation of homosexuality around the world?

Um, and since the announcement, that Trump has no idea about when asked, what has the State Dept done about this exactly?

nada

by Anonymousreply 25September 15, 2020 2:19 AM

Has Miss Grennell commented?

by Anonymousreply 26September 15, 2020 3:06 AM

According to a friend who works at the UN, the US delegation has worked against LGBT and women's right s at the US since Trump took office.

All the stuff Ivanka spouts about women's rights is utter bullshit

by Anonymousreply 27September 15, 2020 7:14 PM

I remember someone on here (a troll) accusing me of being dramatic when I said Trump's administration would do this eventually. The idea of gays actually voting for this man is infuriating.

by Anonymousreply 28September 15, 2020 7:24 PM

The article is very vague. Few specifics.

by Anonymousreply 29September 15, 2020 7:31 PM

R29 is a TROLL.

by Anonymousreply 30September 15, 2020 9:32 PM

[Quote]According to a friend who works at the UN, the US delegation has worked against LGBT and women's right s at the US since Trump took office.

I've worked in the UN Human Rights Centre many years and I can tell you the USA is party to very few human rights conventions. The USA has always fallen far behind western Europe, Canada, Aus and New Zealand re human rights.

Its somewhat amusing that Americans believe they are No 1.

by Anonymousreply 31September 15, 2020 11:42 PM

R31, yes, this is true, the northern European countries, Canada, NZ and australia are really better than us when it comes to human rights, and other things right now.

by Anonymousreply 32September 15, 2020 11:47 PM

R1 saw his opportunity to make this about his own hatred of Muslims.

[quote]Meanwhile here on Datalounge Islam if regularly defended even though their adherents throw gays off roofs.

This was ISIS, you moron. They also burned alive other Muslims. A billion people aren't throwing gays off of any roof. It's repeated more by people like you than actually done. And you must be new on DL because you seem to think there aren't more assholes like you than there are people who point out what an asshole you are for lying.

You think that it's a defense of Islam to point out how full of shit people like you are when you endlessly use what a god damned terrorist org. did and conflate it with a billion other people who had nothing to do with it, and you omit the fact that that terrorist org. tortures other Muslims who weren't gay - because that's what a terrorist org. DOES.

by Anonymousreply 33September 16, 2020 12:08 AM

No doubt Log Cabin republican and homophobe Rick Grenell will be the first one to speak up against gay rights.

by Anonymousreply 34September 16, 2020 12:27 AM

And you want to know why protesters are burning cities?

by Anonymousreply 35September 16, 2020 12:33 AM

The UN gives a free pass to all the countries that make it ok to kill gay people. Wonder why?

by Anonymousreply 37September 16, 2020 5:59 PM

When’s the last time they “censored” a Muslim country that violates human rights daily? They fucking held a human rights conference in one of them

by Anonymousreply 38September 16, 2020 11:17 PM

Muslim people aren't in the habit, as a whole, of throwing gay men off of buildings but they aren't exactly getting in line to be your friend, either.

by Anonymousreply 39September 16, 2020 11:39 PM

Muslims in the US have better attitudes towards gays than US Evangelicals

by Anonymousreply 40September 16, 2020 11:59 PM

Proof R40?

Reality is that on this planet, the countries that make i illegal or punishable by death to be gay are Muslim theocracies.

R41, the US only made homosexuality legal less than 20 years ago.

We are hardly the beacon of equality...

by Anonymousreply 43September 17, 2020 2:58 PM

R41, that link is very literal about what countries deem homosexuality illegal.

In fact, very Christian countries like Russia, Poland, much of Eastern Europe, and much of Africa, make it very very difficult to be openly gay. Why they don't officially say it's illegal, they turn a blind eye towards violence against gays and put up tons of restrictions against gays--marriage ban, adoption ban, no employment protections.

In the end, numerous Muslim AND Christian countries force gays into the closet.= for fear of retribution.

by Anonymousreply 44September 17, 2020 3:02 PM

[quote] Reality is that on this planet, the countries that make i illegal or punishable by death to be gay are Muslim theocracies.

And thankfully, Trump has worked so hard on his State Dept plan to stop countries from keeping homosexuality illegal

by Anonymousreply 45September 17, 2020 3:03 PM

R44 Ambiguity and overgeneralization don't make your point, but rather illustrates your ignorance.

"Poland and Eastern Europe" all have laws protecting gays.

"Much of Africa" makes it "difficult to be openly gay" because much of Africa is Muslim, where homosexuality is criminalized and socially abhorrent. Homosexuals have found legal protection and acceptance in Xtian countries, while Muslim countries are at the forefront of preventing the advancement of gay rights in international forums.

"In the end", there is no comparison or parity between the freedoms enjoyed by homosexuals in Xtian countries and the threat of punishment and death they suffer in Muslim countries.

by Anonymousreply 46September 17, 2020 3:11 PM

At least the Log Cabiners can rest easy that their god doesn't hate them.

by Anonymousreply 47September 17, 2020 3:15 PM

Its not Christians vs Muslims its religious vs non religeous. W Europe has for the most part turned away from the sky faeries and it is there amongst the Nordics where the international human rights regime was born .

by Anonymousreply 48September 17, 2020 3:46 PM

R46, it's not true all Eastern European countries protect hays, many have laws that discriminate against gays

Don't call other people ignorant when you're a Republican stooge

by Anonymousreply 49September 17, 2020 5:05 PM

Large areas of Poland have declared themselves “gay-free.”
