ICE doctors are sterilizing women

Performing forced hysterectomies.

This is actually not unique in the state of Georgia.

Here’s how it works: women who have 3 or more children and are on welfare or collecting food stamps or are receiving some sort of state-government assistance, for housing, healthcare, help for college, are pressured into having hysterectomies in order to continue getting benefits. Same goes for women who’s husbands stop paying child support because they either became incarcerated for a crime having nothing to do with child support, or disappeared, or died. Same if he pays, yet is underemployed.

This is almost always prominent in areas of the state where the demographics are Latino and AA.

An overwhelming amount of women under the age of 40 have unnecessary hysterectomies in Georgia, regardless of how many children they have, because OBGYNs will not treat reproductive health incidents as per required treatment, if the patient is not insured with a private insurer, that covers the surgery, or if the surgery is being paid for by state subsidies: in example; a woman has an ovarian cyst that needs to be removed. Instead of removing the cyst, the doctor removes the ovary. If it happens again, the doctor removes the other ovary. If the woman then develops another issue, the doctor removes the uterus entirely.

Same with endometriosis. Menopausal women are told to remove their uterus instead of being treated for symptoms.

If the woman is black or Hispanic, single or widowed, the chances of this being presented as a medical treatment before comprehensive care, is huge.

I am not sure what is being done with the ovaries and/or uteri of these women, but I’ve never met so many young women who are completely healthy in every way, yet no longer have reproductive organs for reasons that medically, make zero sense.

They really are evil.

by Anonymousreply 2September 14, 2020 9:31 PM

Do these people accept homosexuality? If not, mastectomies for all of them!

by Anonymousreply 3September 14, 2020 9:35 PM

What do they do with all of the uteruses? Are they really reusable?

Could they be growing an army somewhere using the private equity owned dna they’ve collected along with Peter Thielz blood banks to supply the feed?

Wouldn’t put it passed these monsters for a second.

by Anonymousreply 4September 14, 2020 9:40 PM

R1, they really are. I’m from a blue state and I’ve met many women who are Mexican and have multiple children, while recipients of welfare and they have not told me that they experience the pressure of getting one nor do they have to choose between getting hysterectomies and food stamps. However, that is not the case in red states, especially where there are more below poverty line residents who are single moms.

In blue states like California, where I’m from, the women on state assistance programs are offered Depo-Provera or Birth Control, free of charge in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies if they have multiple children without financial assistance from child support. California are is a state health insurance program which offers uninsured women the same options for prevention of pregnancy, even if the woman is single and they also cover early term DNC.

In Georgia, I’ve met women who are of either Hispanic or African American race, who are uninsured and are told they need hysterectomies by the age of 30, because they have odd issues such as a prolapsed uterus at the age of 30, or suddenly have problems that require a hysterectomy, instead of treatment for the problem, such as endometriosis, which one would have actual treatment for, not requiring hysterectomies, if one were privately insured.

Same goes for multiple pregnancies. Hysterectomies as opposed to Depo-Provera or birth control pills. They also push sterilization and within 1 year to 18 months, push for hysterectomies.

These are the same states that want to either ban abortions or make it very difficult for women to get one, and also want to limit access to poor women who seek family planning education & services and free condoms, via institutions like planned parenthood.

That’s why I’m not at all doubting the veracity of this story.

[quote] “According to Wooten, ICDC consistently used a particular gynecologist – outside the facility“

If any of this is true, it’s a doctor, not doctors, and it’s not an “ICE doctor”, although this apparently doesn’t matter when crafting a DL thread title.

by Anonymousreply 6September 14, 2020 10:01 PM

It doesn’t sound terribly cost-efficient. Why wouldn’t they just tie the women’s tubes? I suppose it’s cheaper in the long run.

Is someone implying that Republicans are stealing uteruses to transplant into wealthy donors or something?

by Anonymousreply 7September 14, 2020 10:47 PM

R7, a tubal ligation can be reversed. They were not going to take chances.

by Anonymousreply 10September 14, 2020 11:24 PM

Well, there you go, USA. You are now officially Hitler's Germany. Soon you'll be worse.

by Anonymousreply 11September 14, 2020 11:35 PM

Is it not technically “abortion” if you preven them from ever getting pregnant?

God these republicans get sicker by the day. How does this all end?

We used to punish crooked politicians in this country. Do we not do that anymore?

by Anonymousreply 12September 14, 2020 11:37 PM

R7, no one is necessarily asking if the uteri are being used for transplants, however, they certainly can be used in medical schools, they can be used in research and development for disease, for pharmaceuticals, and all sorts of things that we’re probably not even aware of. Heck, maybe they can be sold. I haven’t a clue.

Or maybe it is just way more cost effective for the doctor to perform a hysterectomy, than treat a condition. Or perhaps they get to bill the state more money for a hysterectomy, than if they treat a condition. How many of these women held in these detention centers are going to be ferried back and forth to the doctor and from the detention center and back, for follow up appointments when treating conditions that require long term treatment modalities? Why would the state want to pay for comprehensive medical treatments, when within two or three visits, they can diagnose, treat, follow up once, and be done with it?

I strongly suspect that this is also why most of these ultra conservative red states push the pro life, anti abortion crap. Many women who have zero access to health insurance or restricted access to reproductive medical care, are too poor to pay for an abortion out of their pocket, which is why most blue states that provide access healthcare for the poor, also provide access to abortions and birth control methods such as the pill, Depo- Provera, Diaphragms, and condoms, whether the woman has had an abortion or not. They also provide gynecological exams such as papa-smears and mammograms- and surgical treatments all free of charge. This is true before Obama Care, btw. So I am guessing that these states are driven by their aversion to allocating federal funding in order to provide women with these services, collect bigger paychecks for themselves, while pushing a bunch of pro life hogwash that they really couldn’t care less about, nor do they even believe is a sin or find it to be irrelevant to anything in their lives, because they’re overwhelmingly men, or the occasional fundie dyke or post menopausal woman who is governor of a red state, and doesn’t have to worry about getting pregnant and was always economically dispositioned to afford an abortion out of pocket, if she needed one.

by Anonymousreply 13September 14, 2020 11:44 PM

It’s ALWAYS about money. These issues never have to do with God, sin, unborn babies, right to life, murder, or even women’s rights to their own medical autonomy. It has to do with treating women as second class citizens because they’re fertile and that cuts into their bottom line.

And if anyone wants to argue that it also cuts into the bottom line when women have children and are on welfare, let me posit that if these women weren’t using these state facilitated services, then many of the people who work in these state ran government offices, wouldn’t have a job, nor would their bosses, nor would the state treasurer’s staff, and so on.

It’s a big scam and racket, lodged on the shoulders of women and kids they can’t afford to feed, yet are called whores for getting pregnant, but can’t get birth control, and then when they want an abortion, they’re told they’re murderers, because the state doesn’t wanna pay for it or subsidize it, and then when they have the baby, they’re called welfare queens, because a bunch of politicians who are making money off of their dependency on government services, make it as hard as possible for them to move out of those economic conditions causing them to need assistance, all the while living in McMansions and demonizing these women, so that they can campaign against abortion every election term, and get re-elected by church goers who believe they’re voting as God would want them to, when what they’re doing is voting for corrupt politicians who need to keep the scam going and the federal funds flowing, in order to pay their McMansion mortgages and drive their Cadillacs.

Who is the real Welfare Queen or person scamming the American taxpayers? The anti abortion politicians they’re voting for, or the doctor who just billed the state for 2000/annum hysterectomies, @ 5K/patient , performed unnecessarily on women held in ICE detention centers? All subsidized and funded by federal money, from blue states.

The hypocrisy and criminally deviant behavior from these conservatives in politics and government detention centers such as ICE, is disgusting and even constitutionally illegal.

Zero oversight, zero humane treatment, separated from their children who are currently being held in private hotel chains, while the corporations who own these hotels also charge the state and make money off our tax dollars.

It’s all a huge scam. All of it. None of these people care one bit or give one flying fuck about unborn babies, God, the Bible, Jesus, heaven, hell, children, or the health of detainees. They only worship MONEY, just like their mega-church pastors and just like their President.

The sad thing is, it may not make an impact and it may actually drive more evil pieces of shit to vote for Trump.

by Anonymousreply 17September 15, 2020 12:04 AM

So this is a complaint about one doctor? Who does not work for ICE but is an outside contractor? The headline made it sound like it was ICE policy.

by Anonymousreply 18September 15, 2020 12:05 AM

This is one complaint about one doctor stemming from one nurse who works for him, and is there for the exams, views their patient charts, and has enough medical knowledge via her training in nursing school, to understand that there’s no justification for a 25 year old woman to have a hysterectomy, and also happens to know what the ICD billing codes for these services are, and under understands that the most profitable and short term modalities in the spectrum of treatment in obstetrics, for an otherwise healthy woman, is a hysterectomy. And she also happens to notice that 7/10 patients who are being sent to this specific doctor, are non-English speaking, and have very little to zero idea why they need surgery or a hysterectomy, or that they’re even getting one, because the hired interpreter that is accompanying them from the ICE demotion center, is not a medically trained professional, hence had no way of telling the patient in Spanish, anything other than translating verbatim, what the doctor’s recommendations are.

This is one doctor and one nurse. This is possibly repeated and duplicated all across the state, and multiple states, where there are possibly hundreds of doctors doing the same exact thing, R18.

by Anonymousreply 19September 15, 2020 12:14 AM

Holy shit r19. That is so fucking scary and sickening

by Anonymousreply 20September 15, 2020 12:24 AM

Thanks for the explanation, r18. So it's one doctor using the fact that the women don't speak English to perform an unnecessary op on them because that way they can bill more money? Fucking disgusting. Isn't this sort of thing a crime?

Clearly betraying the Hippocratic oath, so even if it's not a crime (it should be) this doctor should be struck off for life.

by Anonymousreply 21September 15, 2020 12:28 AM

Unnecessary hysterectomies have been identified as a problem for women in general all over the country for several years now (along with unnecessary C-sections). It has nothing to do with ICE. Although honestly pressure for sterilization is hardly the worst idea for poor people or abusive parents who don't know when to stop dropping crotchfruit. The real solution would be vasectomies, which are much cheaper and easier to do.

by Anonymousreply 22September 15, 2020 12:38 AM

So what is the doctors' motive for doing unnecessary hysterectomies and c-sections, r22? Is it just money?

by Anonymousreply 23September 15, 2020 12:49 AM

R14, run for office, and I'm not being sarcastic or joking. You laid it out, brilliantly.

by Anonymousreply 24September 15, 2020 12:53 AM

R5, the study you cited says there was no difference in how the women of various races were treated by practioners. The black women had more fibroids and opted for hysterectomies more often because of chronic pain. That's not the assertion of the OP.

by Anonymousreply 25September 15, 2020 12:53 AM

R20, this is not a new thing. Poor women in red states who were born here in America have been subjected to these medical practices for decades. That’s why I linked that paper at R5.

What’s new, is that ICE has been expanded exponentially during the 1st year of the Trump Administration, and that coincidentally, dozens of ICE detention centers have now, suddenly “popped” up all over red states in the Bible Belt and the south. They have popped up everywhere, and they’re old warehouses,!or makeshift prefab tract buildings, quickly set up and stuffed with bunk beds.

Several things:

The minute Trump started in with his anti immigration rhetoric, right before the caravans were televised, I heard a rumor from a person, or a place, or thing, that I may or may not ALLEGEDLY know of, that or who, has ALLEGED direct knowledge about this specific situation, and ALLEGEDLY “thought out loud” one day, and alleged, that it was suspected, by many now fired officials from Homeland Security and the FBI, that there had been an aggressive and coordinated “ campaign” of sorts in Central America, and parts of Mexico, to encourage thousands of them, would be immigrants seeking asylum, to seek asylum AT THAT TIME SPECIFICALLY, while Trump was in office, because he would be granting them all entrance” into the United States, which they were told meant “asylum”.

ALLEGEDLY, none of them understood that they would be separated from their families, or that they would. NOT be granted asylum, and instead, would be detained and moved around from detainment centers to detainment centers, from state to state, in order to be used as human collateral that private contractors would allegedly offer services in order for them to be housed/detained.

ALLEGEDLY, many of these people were also told that they would each receive a minimum of $1,000.00 per head or family member, that they migrated with. Many were even given actual cash advances as moving incentives.

ALLEGEDLY, this caused huge outrage internally within a circle of officials within the US Department of Homeland Security, & their underling employees, who Trump’s administration swiftly fired, and replaced with new top officials, who in turn fired hundreds of US DHS employees, who were in turn replaced by thousands of new immigration enforcement agents hired, for the purposes of expanding ICE, instead of Homeland Security.

by Anonymousreply 26September 15, 2020 1:46 AM

NOT ALLEGEDLY, but FACTUALLY, right around this time, suddenly, a bunch of government contracts started to be awarded to a bunch of private corporations. Many of these corporations’ CEOs and. Board of Directors, were oddly tied to, in one way or another, relatives and/or friends, of DOHS high ranking employees. They were awarded highly profitable contracts in order to set up camp for these new, incoming immigrants, and their kids. Contracts varying all the way from beds, furniture, blankets, toiletries, clothing, food, kitchen staffs, pre made foods, ovens, fridges, plumbers, builders, unused warehouses from private real estate holdings, specialized employees, such as on-site nurses, doctors, private security firms,, transportation companies providing bussing , administrative staffing, such as translators, and on and on, the list goes.

Then Trump, in his regular and customary con-man, grifter fashion, coordinated with FOX, and got on his newest TV reality show,, disseminating his misinformation, propaganda driven bull shit about the illegal caravans, coming to invade America, rape our women, kill our children, take our jobs, steal our non existent access to free healthcare, while grandstanding on his xenophobic soap box, to all of the zombies addicted to FOX News outrage and contrived, fair and balanced fiction.

This is why they specifically altered policies that allowed for mothers & children to be housed together. For the sole purpose of maximizing profits for the private contractors who were all about to cash in HUGELY, by having to accommodate men in “men only” quarters, the women in “women only” quarters, and the children in “children only” quarters.

Watch some of the YouTube videos featuring FOX News coverage of these caravans. If they’re still up, here’s something you may or may not notice, if you observe closely: many of these poor immigrants who were allegedly fleeing poverty stricken areas, which indeed, many were and still are, and will undoubtedly continue to do so in the future, are wearing what appears to be brand new sneakers, and brand new clothing, that look like something you’d see the average American family wearing from Marshall’s or Ross, if they were going to spend a summer vacation visiting Disney World, in Orlando, Florida. There’s a reason for that. They were ALLEGEDLY incentivized by cash, promises for more cash they never got, once they got here, because that promise was broken the moment they sought asylum, they have not been granted. ALLEGEDLY, before they set forth on caravans to the promise land, they were ALLEGEDLY sent new clothing to wear, before making their appearance on Fox News’, & making them instant celebrities.

All thanks to Donald Trump.

[quote] What do they do with all of the uteruses?

They give them to Hillary Clinton to eat for breakfast.

by Anonymousreply 28September 15, 2020 2:07 AM

[quote] Is someone implying that Republicans are stealing uteruses to transplant into wealthy donors or something?

Why would a nice white lady want a colored uterus? Wouldn’t it produce colored babies?

by Anonymousreply 29September 15, 2020 2:10 AM

R22, while I understand your parsing of medical procedures and reasons as to why you might consider these thing to be effective, people have the right to know that they’re about to have a hysterectomy., especially when they’re being detained in a foreign country in which they do not speak the native tongue of said country.

Furthermore, there’s no credible and medical reason for a doctor to perform hysterectomy after hysterectomy, on a specific group of women who are detainees who do not speak English, and who are all medically healthy, and who may have non-existent medical conditions requiring this procedure or may have a mild case of uterine inflammation or an untreated STD, that could be successfully treated instead of removing the patient’s uterus.

The RN was and is100% ethically justified in blowing the whistle on this doctor, and this is not only illegal because he is probably performing unnecessary procedures, it is also unconstitutional.

We are not here to legislate who is a bad mom or and abusive parent via hysterectomy and sterilization of women, and if we were to be non hypocritical, would advocate preventing pregnancies rather than legislation for the prevention of abortions.

Again, this is an issue that is centered around the legislation of women and their bodies, as well as their reproductive rights, because men’s vasectomies are not considered to be as pearl clutching as preventing pregnancies and allowing for early term DNCs, nor are vasectomies as profitable for that scum doctor in Georgia- which is why his nurse is blowing her whistle on HYSTERECTOMIES, rather than VASECTOMIES.

by Anonymousreply 30September 15, 2020 2:10 AM

So who will win in the Unnecessary Dead Babies (or the utero houses that hold them) v Evil Immigrant debate among our dear deplorables?

[quote] Poor women in red states

by Anonymousreply 32September 15, 2020 2:16 AM

R32, yes. Black women, and overwhelmingly so.

However, poor women who are immigrants are also in this group, detained by ICE or otherwise. Also, plenty of poor women born in the USA who are children of undocumented immigrants and documented ones.

by Anonymousreply 33September 15, 2020 2:41 AM

The doctor wouldn’t be the first government contractor to do unnecessary work and bilk the government. More government waste and mismanagement. A health insurance company’s claims department and investigation unit would have spotted the issue and put a stop to it.

by Anonymousreply 34September 15, 2020 4:18 AM

The story has been supported by additional reporting, and is now blowing up on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 35September 15, 2020 9:40 PM

I am wondering if some day in the future these women and the kids locked in cages and never returned to their parents will be suing the US and us the taxpayers for millions and millions of dollars.
