TikTok influencer Addison Rae will star in gender-swapped ‘She’s All That’ remake

This feels like a slap to the face for all those actors out there who work hard and can’t catch a break. We are not casting TikTokers?

And I’m sick of everyone claiming she’s gorgeous. She is not that pretty. Everyone is always going on and on about her beauty. I don’t see it.

It will be titled “He’s All That”

This will be a bomb.

by Anonymousreply 1September 13, 2020 6:04 PM

Will Cardi B play the Lil Kim character?

by Anonymousreply 2September 13, 2020 6:06 PM

And Lil Nas X as Usher's character? Maybe Lizzo as Gabby Union's character?

by Anonymousreply 3September 13, 2020 6:07 PM

Froy as the He?

by Anonymousreply 4September 13, 2020 6:07 PM

While Rachel Leigh Cook was beautiful, she still looked like a real girl. As did Freddie Prinze Jr looked like a good-looking but real guy. As did Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson in the 80s original, "Can't Buy Me Love".

All these modern actors/influencers or whatever look way too dolled-up and glammed to feel any bit of human connection or relatability to.

by Anonymousreply 5September 13, 2020 6:10 PM

r5, obviously you are not the targeted demographic for this movie. Looking like an anime character is "all the rage" with the young crowd the movie is actually trying to draw in with this remake.

by Anonymousreply 6September 13, 2020 6:19 PM

But they're not making this movie for eldergays. Young women relate to drag makeup women.

by Anonymousreply 7September 13, 2020 6:20 PM

R6 Yeah you're right. I'm a solid Millennial, I'm 27, and I don't get the whole beauty standards of Gen Z at all

by Anonymousreply 8September 13, 2020 6:21 PM

This was inevitable.

As with all the remakes, re-imagining, reboots, sequels, prequels, and franchises, the cost of movies and the burning desire to get above the noise and make money would inevitably seek out "influencers" with a large built-in base to squeeze money out of their followers.

by Anonymousreply 9September 13, 2020 6:24 PM

If you're 27, then you grew up when orange Zac Efron was popular. The 00s was a trash decade for beauty.

by Anonymousreply 10September 13, 2020 6:26 PM

They don't even need to remake this. The plotline of making over an undesirable person is old as hell. They could recycle that plot and name it something else.

by Anonymousreply 11September 13, 2020 6:26 PM

R10 Actually, Usher, Matt Damon, Chris Evans, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Colin Farrell, Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Tyrese and Mark Wahlberg were all sex symbols then. Zac Efron was a teen idol like Aaron Carter and Jesse McCartney not an actual sex symbol.

by Anonymousreply 12September 13, 2020 6:27 PM

R16 I forgot what Michael B Jordan looked like with dreads lol. He aged beautifully. The 90s and 2000s had so many sexy black guys on screen like Tyrese, Usher, Maxwell, D'Angelo, Jodeci, Michael Ealy, Terence Howard and Idris.

by Anonymousreply 18September 13, 2020 6:34 PM

All I can see is the big cyst between her eyes in OP's photo. Maybe Dr. Pimple Popper can have a cameo.

R17 The same year, grown adults were lusting over Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney and Denzel Washington. NSYNC appealed to teenage girls.

R10 is a Gen Z summer child. Zach looks orange because of the color saturation in that photo. Are you blind?

Gen Z is a generation of plastic puffer fish who are just using new forms of classist competition against each other: how much money can you spend on makeup, hair extensions/plugs, ab/boob/ass implants?

This generation's tagline should be: you're not ugly, you're just poor.

Back on topic. This remake is unnecessary and the plot was already a generic one that originated to Pygmalion and My Fair Lady that it's not even necessary to call the remake: "He's All That".

by Anonymousreply 31September 13, 2020 6:59 PM

Probably figure they don't have to pay her much and she has enough of a following that they'll make money back.

R33 He's wearing the same clothes and has the same hairstyle, dummy. Take another look, if you can manage it.

Daughter: "But, Mom, I want to go to Carnegie Mellon and study drama! It's only $54k a year! I want to be an actor!"

Mother: "Whore yourself out on TikTok. It's free."

by Anonymousreply 35September 13, 2020 7:06 PM

Zac using sunless tanner and makeup wouldn't shock me. But still he was never a big star then and now despite what he may tell himself at night. So he wasn't an influence on people's beauty perceptions. Teen idols always have non-threatening and also tacky. I thought Zac was hot and still do though.

That said, I just think that late 90s teen films at least tried to cast people who while pretty still had a "guy/girl next door" look. Christina Ricci, Rachel Leigh Cook, Melissa Joan Hart, Katie Holmes and Jennifer Love Hewitt were obtainable girl next door types. James Van Der Beek, Ethan Embry, Adrian Grenier, Freddie Prinze Jr and Ryan Philippe again they were pretty but still looked real and approachable. Liking boy bands and pop wasn't really that cool honestly either despite all the nostalgia for it nowadays. Hip hop, alternative and rock were the biggest genres hence the pop music of that time incorporated rap and rock elements to survive.

I think come the mid-2000s the teen fare got more and more manufactured and artificial with Disney Channel crap like Hannah Montana and High School Musical.

by Anonymousreply 36September 13, 2020 7:06 PM

Zac is too vain to become a big Hollywood actor. He can't get himself dirty. He wore makeup, sunless tanner, had a nose job and got his teeth fixed. Nobody can relate to him.

by Anonymousreply 45September 13, 2020 7:16 PM

Melissa Joan Hart was a crush of many straight dudes. She was blonde and had boobs and a great body.

by Anonymousreply 46September 13, 2020 7:16 PM

R19, that’s the only thing that I see when I look at the picture. Couldn’t she hide in the house until that thing cleared up? Wear bangs? A hat? A Halloween mask? Geez...

by Anonymousreply 47September 13, 2020 7:16 PM

So films with teenagers must feature ones that look like porn stars with tons of makeup like you see on IG/TikTok instead of average joes/janes?

Melissa had ONE movie. Not that many people wanted to fuck her, evidently.

by Anonymousreply 50September 13, 2020 7:19 PM

Britney and Melissa were blonde with big boobs and asses. That's all you need for straight guys.

by Anonymousreply 51September 13, 2020 7:19 PM

Well she has the plain unattractive look down pat, but will they be able to make her pass for sufficiently beautiful for the plot? Is shocking how unappealing these TikTok and Youtube girls are in comparison to all the fit, hot, charismatic guys out there. It’s no wonder Bryce Hall never wanted to admit to a relationship with her, she’s so plain and boring. I think the only one worse is some I saw for the first time who just quit called Jenna Marbles, painfully unattractive.

by Anonymousreply 52September 13, 2020 7:23 PM

Didn't they say that it's a reverse version "HE'S all That." Addison will be Fredi Prinze. The male lead will be Ray Leigh Cook.

by Anonymousreply 53September 13, 2020 7:24 PM

When will Hollywood learn. The remakes of Ghostbusters and National Lampoon's Vacation flopped. How many times will they fail until they get it through their hard heads.

Can't Buy Me Love was an 80s remake of Pygmalion, She's All That is a 90s remake of Can't Buy Me Love, Love Don't Cost A Thing was a 2000s remake of She's All That.

If they want this film to succeed then just rename it something else and change the setting.

by Anonymousreply 54September 13, 2020 7:28 PM

Instead of focusing on the outward appearance of these newbie TikTok stars, do you see "light" in their eyes and do they have multiple facial expressions ie can they emote? Or are they just another over hyped acto/odel/whatever with blank faces and near-dead eyes?

by Anonymousreply 55September 13, 2020 7:41 PM

Larray emotes all over the shop.

by Anonymousreply 56September 13, 2020 7:43 PM

I wonder if some type of event will happen that will destroy all the cell towers and fiber optic lines which would knock out the internet. Would people be able to survive without their smart phones and computers connecting online?

by Anonymousreply 57September 13, 2020 7:45 PM

Yes. We'd bitch via smoke signals.

by Anonymousreply 58September 13, 2020 7:46 PM

Another tired, hollywood recycle that will FLOP. This young generation doesn't have the attention to watch a full movie, anyhow.

by Anonymousreply 59September 13, 2020 7:47 PM

R49 Melissa and Britney were the girls next door. Their brand wasn't about sex at all.

Just shows you how mentally twisted, superficial, and fake so many Gen Zers are.

by Anonymousreply 60September 13, 2020 7:50 PM

R54 false. Love Don’t Cost A Thing was a remake of Can’t Buy Me Love, not Shes All That.

The idea of making the ugly duckling desirable is one thing, but there are differences.

She’s All That is let’s take the loser, “ugly” chick and see if the most popular guy in school can make her Prom Queen and popular.

Can’t Buy Me Love and Love Don’t Cost a Thing are literally the same thing, the unpopular dude pays the hot popular chick to pretend they’re together.

by Anonymousreply 61September 13, 2020 9:47 PM

R50 Melissa was a huge star to young people. She was never gonna be a movie lead in anything but teen flicks.

by Anonymousreply 62September 13, 2020 9:48 PM

Zac Efron didn’t come until 2006 and he was a minor still. Why are we talking about as if he were around during the late 90s, early 00s, when pop and films and TV were taken over by young hot people? He came later and looked like a kid. He was not a sex symbol to women. He was a teen heartthrob.

by Anonymousreply 63September 13, 2020 9:50 PM

R63 Zac was mainly a sex symbol for Disney producers.

by Anonymousreply 64September 13, 2020 9:56 PM

R64 maybe. But to the public he was popular with teens. Not adults. Idk about gays, but 16 year old Efron def shouldn’t have been a topic of obsession for gay men, only proving straights right.

by Anonymousreply 65September 13, 2020 10:02 PM

Zac wasn't a sex symbol until much later with stuff like Neighbors and Baywatch. He was a crush of many teen girls and teen gays but not on any adult person's radar unless they were a cougar or chickenhawk.

The person who initially commented about Gen Z's trash taste claimed to be 27. He'd be the right age for someone who crushed on Zac Efron in the mid to late '00s. Other tacky types mentioned were Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez. 13-17 year olds in the mid to late '00s were not thinking of Brad Pitt or George Clooney.

by Anonymousreply 71September 14, 2020 3:17 AM

JC Chasez and Justin Timberlake were in Nsync in the late 90s and early 00s. Their last album together, Celebrity, came out in 2001. They’ve been broken up since 2002. You’re nuts if you think JC was on teens minds in 2006 and later.

Justin, ok, for his solo career, but JC? Lmaoooo

by Anonymousreply 72September 14, 2020 3:20 AM

I would suggest the person who suggested Nelly was a sex symbol is nuts... not with that overbite.

by Anonymousreply 73September 14, 2020 3:31 AM

How about we replace "influencer" in our language with the words "social parasite"?

by Anonymousreply 74September 15, 2020 10:18 AM

R71 Many weren't think of JC or NSYNC at all. Boy bands and pop stars were not that cool with older teens in the mid to late 2000s. We moved onto rock, rap, R&B and metal. Most people stopped watching Disney Channel by high school. TRL died around 2008 too. Many of us were watching TV shows and movies for adult audiences.

Zac Efron was considered hot but only if you liked pretty boys and a lot of people don't. Many teen girls and teen gays definitely loved older guys with deep voices and muscular bodies like Jason Statham, Orlando Bloom, Chad Michael Murray, George Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Mark Wahlberg, John Cena and Will Smith more. Zac, Jonas Bros, Jesse McCartney and Bieber really appealed more to the tweens at the time they came around but high school teens are far less threatened by more rugged masculinity.

by Anonymousreply 75September 15, 2020 8:08 PM

I also knew many guys in my high school in the late 2000s that loved older women like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Demi Moore and Salma Hayek. I was a gay kid in high school, I got turned on by the bodies of Boris Kodjoe, Brendan Frasier, John Cena, Mark Wahlberg, Nelly and Chad Michael Murray. I had a big crush on Matt Dallas from Kyle XY and Chris Evans in Fantastic Four. I also did find Zac Efron, Joe Jonas and Avan Jogia pretty hot and still do.

by Anonymousreply 76September 15, 2020 8:17 PM

R78 I guess because Nick was actually young when the JoBros blew up and relatable to the tween girl audience while Kevin and Joe were in their late teens/early 2000s which in Disney years is 40.

by Anonymousreply 80September 15, 2020 8:46 PM

*early 20s

by Anonymousreply 81September 15, 2020 8:46 PM

Every generation has its heartthrobs. Check out the 80's hunks thread. And there were plenty more guys back then appealing to different tastes. Just because they don't become famous in middle age doesn't mean they didn't mean a lot to the people who were teenagers at the time.

by Anonymousreply 82September 15, 2020 8:46 PM

R79 Chris Evans played a more prettier parody of FPJ's character in Not Another Teen Movie.

by Anonymousreply 83September 15, 2020 8:46 PM

So any guesses on who the "nerdy" male student will be?

by Anonymousreply 84September 15, 2020 8:52 PM

I remember when they did a remake of 10 Things I Hate About You but in the form of a TV show on ABC Family back in 2009. They changed a lot of things, obviously casted different actors except for the father and turned two characters from the film who were straight into a gay guy and a lesbian. I didn't mind it, it was pretty funny for the most part. I liked the guys they casted for Patrick (Ethan Peck) and Joey (Chris Zylka) as both were very hot.
