R19, Don't be so sure of what"every kid learns about" in American public schools. In mine, where I also then taught for 30 years (different department), in other words from 1963-1967, and then 1971-2001, actual "American History" never got past the (unutterably boring) 19th Century.

I went to a Pennsyltucky public school and we definitely learned about WW1 and WW2
