Starting prior to WWI, a lot of rich far-right Europeans got their antisemitism on by creating conspiracy theories that the Jews were secretly controlling various royal families, governments, starting wars, things like that. And the easiest way to make people appear evil is to associate them with child abuse and pedophilia.

It's similar to what motivates evangelical Christians. For them, the Bible provides all the answers - no gray areas, no nuance; everything is either right or wrong. It's for people who can't handle complexity and chaos in the world.
