Let's dream-cast the Golden Girls!

Say the show was going to get a reboot, which current actress would you place in which role and why?

I'd probably pick Laurie Metcalf as Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 130September 7, 2020 3:24 AM

Chrissy Metz as Rebecca

by Anonymousreply 1August 9, 2020 8:18 PM

Chrissy Metz as the house

by Anonymousreply 2August 9, 2020 8:18 PM

Alfred Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Telma Hopkins and Cicely Tyson

by Anonymousreply 3August 9, 2020 8:18 PM

Phylicia Rashad would also make an excellent Dorothy, R3. I approve.

by Anonymousreply 4August 9, 2020 8:20 PM

Lisa Whelchel as Blanche, Nancy McKeon as Dorothy, Kim Fields as Rose and Mindy Cohn as Sofia.

by Anonymousreply 5August 9, 2020 8:23 PM

The incomparable Meryl Streep as Dorothy

Kim Cattrall as Blanche (she does so well with ensembles)

Sally as Rose

Kathy Bates as Sophia

and G as.... oh, noooooooo... nothing for G.

Again.

by Anonymousreply 6August 9, 2020 8:23 PM

Jane Lynch as Dorothy

Marion Ross as Sophia (Estelle Getty was a year younger than Bea Arthur)

by Anonymousreply 7August 9, 2020 8:26 PM

An all white cast would never fly these days.

by Anonymousreply 8August 9, 2020 8:28 PM

Anthony Fauci as Sophia.

by Anonymousreply 9August 9, 2020 8:30 PM

[quote]An all white cast would never fly these days.

Rita Moreno as Sophia, then. They cancelled the reboot of One Day at a Time, so she's available.

by Anonymousreply 10August 9, 2020 8:41 PM

Michelle Pfeiffer - Rose

Jane Lynch - Dorothy

Katey Sagal - Blanche

Jessica Walter - Sophia

by Anonymousreply 11August 9, 2020 8:43 PM

Ellen Degeneres IS Barbara Thorndyke

by Anonymousreply 12August 9, 2020 8:45 PM

I want Ellen as Freida Claxron.

by Anonymousreply 13August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

Frances McDormand as Freida Claxton

by Anonymousreply 14August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

*Claxton

by Anonymousreply 15August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

no one alive can do it.

by Anonymousreply 16August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

Ellen wouldn't suit either of those characters, R12 and R13. Terrible choice.

by Anonymousreply 17August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

Claxron? Wasn't that an arcade game.

by Anonymousreply 18August 9, 2020 8:46 PM

Teri Hatcher as Sophia

Nicollette Sheridan as Rose

Felicity Huffman as Dorothy

Marcia Cross as Blanche

by Anonymousreply 19August 9, 2020 8:47 PM

There must be a role for Catherine O'Hara. She may make a good Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 20August 9, 2020 8:48 PM

Linda Hunt as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 21August 9, 2020 8:48 PM

John Hamm as David, George's illegitimate son with the large dong.

by Anonymousreply 22August 9, 2020 8:49 PM

I think a male version would be great. There was talk of a gay one called "The Silver Foxes". I recall George Takei was supposed to be part of it but it never made it to pilot stage.

by Anonymousreply 23August 9, 2020 8:49 PM

Cardi B as Margyareet

by Anonymousreply 24August 9, 2020 8:50 PM

I take my post at R20 back. O'Hara would be Dorothy. Her former TV son Dan Levy could be the new Michael.

by Anonymousreply 25August 9, 2020 8:50 PM

Tom Cruise as Clayton Hollingsworth. Henry Cavill as Doug.

by Anonymousreply 26August 9, 2020 8:51 PM

Jennifer Saunders as Blanche

Joanna Lumley as Dorothy

Jessica Lange as Sophia

Cate Blanchett as Rose

by Anonymousreply 27August 9, 2020 8:51 PM

Peter Dinklage as Dr. Jonathan Newman.

by Anonymousreply 28August 9, 2020 8:52 PM

Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Blanche. She’d be hilarious.

by Anonymousreply 29August 9, 2020 8:55 PM

Melissa McCarthy as Nurse DeFarge.

by Anonymousreply 30August 9, 2020 8:59 PM

Ohhhhh, excellent, R30!

by Anonymousreply 31August 9, 2020 9:00 PM

David Lynch as Stanley

by Anonymousreply 32August 9, 2020 9:01 PM

Marcia Cross as Jean.

by Anonymousreply 33August 9, 2020 9:01 PM

The magic of Blanche and Rose is that Betty and Rue were cast against their types—Betty was known for being the sitcom slut and Rue was known for being prissy and uptight. They auditioned for each other’s roles and were cast for the others.

You guys need to get a bit more creative!

by Anonymousreply 34August 9, 2020 9:03 PM

Tina Fey as Blanche

by Anonymousreply 35August 9, 2020 9:05 PM

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Lucy Devereaux.

by Anonymousreply 36August 9, 2020 9:05 PM

Isn't she a tad old for the role, R36?

by Anonymousreply 37August 9, 2020 9:05 PM

Jane Krakowski as Rose

by Anonymousreply 38August 9, 2020 9:06 PM

Cate Blanchett as Dorothy Naomi Watts as Rose Nicole Kidman as Blanche and Jacki Weaver as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 39August 9, 2020 9:07 PM

Lavergne Cocks as Dorothea

by Anonymousreply 40August 9, 2020 9:08 PM

Betty White as Sophia, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 41August 9, 2020 9:08 PM

Glenda Jackson as Dorothy

Judi Dench as Rose

Maggie Smith as Blanche

Angela Lansbury as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 42August 9, 2020 9:08 PM

R34, thanks for that groundbreaking piece of trivia that nobody knew. Bea Arthur was cast in a role originally described as "Bea Arthur type" and there was still magic. So YOU get more creative.

by Anonymousreply 43August 9, 2020 9:08 PM

Jane Curtin as Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 44August 9, 2020 9:10 PM

Laura Linney as Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 45August 9, 2020 9:12 PM

Dot-Marie Jones as Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 46August 9, 2020 9:13 PM

Kim Basinger as Blanche

Jodie Foster as Dorothy

Sigourney Weaver as Sophia

Helena Bonham Carter as Rose

by Anonymousreply 47August 9, 2020 9:14 PM

I actually think CZJ would be great as Dorothy or as Blanche.

Julianne Moore as Rose. Seriously.

Liza as Sophia.

Al Pacino as Stanley.

by Anonymousreply 48August 9, 2020 9:15 PM

Martin Short as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 49August 9, 2020 9:15 PM

Donald Trump as Dorothy

Ivanka as Blanche.

Eric as Rose.

Melania as Sophia.

by Anonymousreply 50August 9, 2020 9:16 PM

R48 CZJ is way too voluptuous and pretty to be Dorothy. I can’t imagine it. She would be an excellent Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 51August 9, 2020 9:16 PM

As long as Zac Efron plays Coco who else matters.

by Anonymousreply 52August 9, 2020 9:18 PM

[post redacted because independent.co.uk thinks that links to their ridiculous rag are a bad thing. Somebody might want to tell them how the internet works. Or not. We don't really care. They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

by Anonymousreply 53August 9, 2020 9:18 PM

Coco needs to be played by a big fat obnoxious Latinx.

by Anonymousreply 54August 9, 2020 9:20 PM

R9 I’ll add to that:

Andrew Cuomo as Dorothy.

“Christopher” Cuomo as Blanche.

That leaves Rose. Dr. Birx?

by Anonymousreply 55August 9, 2020 9:21 PM

How about CZJ as Latina Dorothea and Eva Longoria as Sophia? They can be from the Bronx instead of Brooklyn.

by Anonymousreply 56August 9, 2020 9:22 PM

If we want a feature film caliber cast, this is the way to go:

Sigourney Weaver as Dorothy

Glenn Close as Rose

Annette Bening as Blanche

Judi Dench as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 57August 9, 2020 9:23 PM

Duchess of Cornwall = Dorothy

Duchess of Cambridge = Rose

Duchess of Sussex = Blanche

QEII = Sophia since Q already has the purse thing down.

by Anonymousreply 58August 9, 2020 9:27 PM

How about an ex-con edition?

Lori Loughlin as Blanche

Felicity Huffman as Dorothy

Lindsay Lohan as Rose

Winona Rider as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 59August 9, 2020 9:27 PM

Jane Krakowsi as Phyllis Hammerow

Billy Porter as Coco

Louis CK as Mel Bushman

by Anonymousreply 60August 9, 2020 9:28 PM

Assuming Ryan Murphy will be the one to do this, we already know the cast:

Jessica Lange is Sophia

Sarah Paulson is Dorothy

Lily Rabe is Rose

Evan Peters is Blanche

by Anonymousreply 61August 9, 2020 9:30 PM

Fess Parker as Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 62August 9, 2020 9:35 PM

[quote] Lisa Whelchel as Blanche, Nancy McKeon as Dorothy, Kim Fields as Rose and Mindy Cohn as Sofia.

So far, R5 's Facts of Life remix is my favorite. Jo as Dorothy is perfect.

I can see Andrew Cuomo as Stanley (Dorothy's ex-husband who makes multiple guest appearances).

I always hated the Rose character. Ugh. Never was funny to me with those interminable stories.

by Anonymousreply 63August 9, 2020 9:36 PM

That's what the crow said!

by Anonymousreply 64August 9, 2020 9:37 PM

Madonna as Blanche Devereaux.

by Anonymousreply 65August 9, 2020 9:37 PM

R65 I feel embarrassed for Madonna just imagining it.

by Anonymousreply 66August 9, 2020 9:38 PM

Considering they played similar characters in an episode of FoL, R63, R5 is not as clever as you think.

by Anonymousreply 67August 9, 2020 9:41 PM

R63 I actually thought Elliot Gould was the perfect suggestion (in one of the many many MANY other threads we’ve had on this). Tall bumbling guy, like a Jewish Chevy Chase.

Andrew does those Bea Arthur-esque double and triple takes and his dry delivery which is why i thought of him for Dorothy. And we all know Chris is a big whore.

by Anonymousreply 68August 9, 2020 9:43 PM

Molly Shannon as Blanche

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 69August 9, 2020 9:44 PM

R68 Andrew is the one with the pierced nipples.

by Anonymousreply 70August 9, 2020 9:46 PM

R70 and Dot got knocked up at 17 and fucked a Beatles impersonator. We all have our skeletons.

by Anonymousreply 71August 9, 2020 9:50 PM

R19 YES!

by Anonymousreply 72August 9, 2020 9:57 PM

Let’s continue with R44 and R69’s SNL suggestions

Jane Curtin as Dorothy

Mary Gross as Rose

Molly Shannon as Blanche

Robin Duke as Sophia

Brad Hall as Stan

by Anonymousreply 73August 9, 2020 10:01 PM

What about Frieda Claxton and Barbara Thorndyke?

by Anonymousreply 74August 9, 2020 10:03 PM

Nora Dunn as Claxton

Christine Ebersole as Thorndyke

by Anonymousreply 75August 9, 2020 10:09 PM

Sex and the City Remix:

Samantha / Kim Cattrall: Blanche (could also play Dorothy).

Miranda / Cynthia Nixon: Dorothy.

Charlotte / Kristin Davis: Rose.

Carrie / Sarah J. Parker: Sophia.

Mr. Big / Chris Noth: Stan Zbornak.

by Anonymousreply 76August 9, 2020 10:14 PM

If they could get SJP to play Sophia, Cattrall would play Blanche for free.

by Anonymousreply 77August 9, 2020 10:25 PM

Soap Edition:

Erika Slezak as Dorothy

Susan Lucci as Blanche

Genie Francis as Rose

Robin Strasser as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 78August 9, 2020 10:27 PM

Brady Bunch remix

Dorothy - Jan.

Blanche - Marcia.

Rose - Alice or Bobby.

Sophia - Cindy.

Stan - maybe Greg.

by Anonymousreply 79August 9, 2020 10:54 PM

R79, so fictional characters are playing fictional characters?

by Anonymousreply 80August 9, 2020 10:58 PM

No, R80, I left out the name of the actors. Just trying to dream-cast GG within the confines of another show's existing cast.

by Anonymousreply 81August 9, 2020 11:10 PM

How about DL fave Miss Gail Edwards as Rose? A new chance for her to be making a living!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 82August 9, 2020 11:12 PM

Jackee Harry as Dorothy.

by Anonymousreply 83August 9, 2020 11:53 PM

R74, see R14

by Anonymousreply 84August 10, 2020 12:11 AM

There’s no thornier dyke these days than the former queen of nice.

by Anonymousreply 85August 10, 2020 12:13 AM

R36, R37, & R48 Come on. We all know the CZJ is too young for anything but the role of Sunshine Cadet "Daisy", the young girl who held Rose's bear Fernando hostage, in the opening episode of season three.

by Anonymousreply 86August 10, 2020 1:04 AM

Millie Bobby Brown for Daisy.

by Anonymousreply 87August 10, 2020 1:06 AM

Mario Lopez can still play his high school character thanks to the facelift

by Anonymousreply 88August 10, 2020 1:07 AM

Wendy Malick as Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 89August 10, 2020 2:30 AM

+1 for Phylicia = Dorothy

Or someone should just write a new, funny show for her.

by Anonymousreply 90August 10, 2020 2:40 AM

Who will play Blanche's gay brother Clayton ?

by Anonymousreply 91August 10, 2020 2:54 AM

Katey Sagal as Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 92August 10, 2020 2:55 AM

Anne Hathaway can play the bitch daughter of Rose's boyfriend.

by Anonymousreply 93August 10, 2020 3:02 AM

Linda Carter = Rose

Helen Slater = Blanche

Burt Ward = Sophia

Lou Ferrigno = Dorothy

by Anonymousreply 94August 10, 2020 6:54 AM

Helen Lawson as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 95August 10, 2020 8:57 AM

Linda Hunt and Danny Thomas as image consultants who don't believe in labels.

by Anonymousreply 96August 10, 2020 9:09 AM

R91 see R26.

by Anonymousreply 97August 10, 2020 12:46 PM

Judy Davis as a stroppier Sophia. If you doubt me, watch The Dressmaker. She may be too young, but she hasn't had any work so in Hollywood years she's 80.

What about an MTF Blanche?

by Anonymousreply 98August 10, 2020 1:24 PM

Dolly as Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 99August 10, 2020 1:27 PM

R99, yes! And Cher as Dorothy and Liza as Rose.

by Anonymousreply 100August 10, 2020 1:32 PM

Ryan Murphy Presents: "The Golden Girls"

Susan Sarandon - Dorothy

Goldie Hawn - Blanche

Sally Field - Rose

Jessica Lange - Sophia

by Anonymousreply 101August 10, 2020 1:38 PM

Julianne Moore as Blanche's sister Charmaine

by Anonymousreply 102August 10, 2020 1:38 PM

Kevin James as Ham Lushbow

by Anonymousreply 103August 10, 2020 1:50 PM

Queen Latifah as Dorothy, the grouchy substitute teacher from Brooklyn; Maya Rudolph as Blanche, think a horny fiftysomething Whitley Gilbert; Jill Scott as Rose, but make her Nigerian instead of Minnesotan; Jenifer Lewis as Sophia, “picture it, Nutbush, 1953”.

by Anonymousreply 104August 10, 2020 2:13 PM

[quote] Queen Latifah as Dorothy, the grouchy substitute teacher from Brooklyn

I had that same thought. Kim Fields (Tootie and Living Single), again, could be Rose.

by Anonymousreply 105August 10, 2020 7:31 PM

The Pointer Sisters as Dorothy, Rose and Blanche.

by Anonymousreply 106August 11, 2020 3:16 AM

Ivanka - Rose's uncle Hingeblotter’s prize pig - Baby

by Anonymousreply 107August 11, 2020 3:25 AM

Paul Ruebens as Uncle Lucas

by Anonymousreply 108August 11, 2020 3:29 AM

Angelica Houston as Best friend Trudy McMann. Tennis anyone?

by Anonymousreply 109August 11, 2020 5:07 AM

Catherine O'Hara would not be good as Dorothy. Dorothy is too knowing and self-conscious. As O'Hara herself as pointed out, her comic specialty is playing bizarrely eccentric women who have absolutely no clue as to how they appear to others: Moira Rose, Delia Deetz, Lola Heatherton. She would only be able to play Blanche, I think.

by Anonymousreply 110August 11, 2020 5:18 AM

Valerie Bertinelli as Rose

Jane Leeves as Blanche

Wendie Malick as Dorothy

Betty White as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 111August 11, 2020 5:55 AM

[quote]An all white cast would never fly these days.

I don't get this hypocrisy from the white people in power in the entertainment industry. It's okay to have all-black or all-Latino but somehow all-white is evil? Whites in the U.S. are 70% of the population today; blacks are only 12% and Latinos 17%. Thus, it makes sense that there are towns and regions that would be predominantly white. Here in New England, the white population is around 80%. Maine and New Hampshire are 95% white.

by Anonymousreply 112August 11, 2020 8:40 AM

*white leftists in power in the entertainment industry

by Anonymousreply 113August 11, 2020 8:42 AM

Octavia Spencer as Mammy Watkins

Gena Rowlands as Martha Lamont

Sam Waterston as Big Daddy

Edie Falco as Jean, the Lesbian

Rosario Dawson as Renee Corliss

by Anonymousreply 114August 11, 2020 9:57 AM

Alec Baldwin as Dr. Budd. Kim Basinger as his wife.

by Anonymousreply 115August 11, 2020 1:22 PM

Michael Douglas as Big Daddy.

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Big Mommy.

by Anonymousreply 116August 11, 2020 7:31 PM

Janis is Dorothy.

Holly is Blanche.

Nora is Rose.

Dooneese is Dooneese. (Sophia is dead)

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 117August 11, 2020 8:00 PM

Kate Jackson (Dorothy) Jaclyn Smith (Rose), Cheryl Ladd (Blanche, though her bosoms are not as perky) and because it would be better with Shelley Hack, Shelley as Sophia.

by Anonymousreply 118August 15, 2020 7:23 AM

I guess you have to first decide if a) You cast per ages of actresses back when series started or b) You cast per what the actresses looked like back then (older than people their age now), or c) it doesn't matter. I really liked R42 an R76 (SinC). Phylicia Rashad as Dorothy was a good pick as well. Jackee Harry should be Blanche if anyone.

I wanted to suggest Olivia de Havilland for Sophia. But she just died.

by Anonymousreply 119August 15, 2020 8:56 AM

Dolly Parton as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 120August 15, 2020 9:00 AM

Cate Blanchett as Cousin Magda

by Anonymousreply 121August 15, 2020 10:55 AM

I like Geena Davis for Posey McGlynn.

by Anonymousreply 122August 15, 2020 5:38 PM

Parker Posey as Blanche (same age as Rue when GG premiered in 1985)

Lisa Whelchell as Rose

Nancy McKeon as Dorothy

Roseanne as Sophia

In this reboot Dorothy/ Sophia are not Italian but Polish

by Anonymousreply 123August 16, 2020 2:14 AM

Rainn Wilson as Mr. PaFeiffer

by Anonymousreply 124August 16, 2020 4:37 AM

R27 that's good, but I'd like it full French and Saunders.

Joanna Lumley as Dorothy

Jennifer Saunders as Blanche

Dawn French as Rose

Kathy Burke as Sophia

And they would need to set it in another UK town (i.e Blackpool) so as not to be confused with the disastrous "Brighton Belles".

by Anonymousreply 125August 16, 2020 4:46 AM

An all-black version is happening!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 126September 7, 2020 1:36 AM

Sam Smith as Dorothy

Brandon Flynn as Blanche

Froy as Rose

Richard Madden as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 127September 7, 2020 3:18 AM

If they'd cast the British remake correctly, the cast should have been

Patricia Routledge as Dorothy

Honor Blackman as Blanche

Dora Bryan as Rose

Thora Hird as Sophia

by Anonymousreply 128September 7, 2020 3:21 AM

From what I heard the Friends ladies already said they would consider doing a Golden Girls type show together once they are in the right age range.

by Anonymousreply 129September 7, 2020 3:24 AM

[Quote] Joanna Lumley as Dorothy

[Quote] Jennifer Saunders as Blanche

Dorothy should be sexless. Saunders can do that much better than leggy Lumley.
