Things Are Going to Get so Much Worse

The fall and winter of 2020 is about to get real folks. Shit is REALLY going to hit the fan. Unemployment, , mass evictions and homelessness, at rates no one has seen in their lifetime. To make matters worse, no vaccine is in sight. Thanks, Rethugs! 🙄

Agreed. And wait until all these school children start testing positive and they have to go back to online learning and parents, especially single parents, won't be able to go to work. Things are going to be a big mess.

by Anonymousreply 1August 3, 2020 9:22 PM

Mary!

by Anonymousreply 2August 3, 2020 9:22 PM

yep..........count on it.............

by Anonymousreply 3August 3, 2020 9:23 PM

I paid my house off in 2018. Everybody I talked to said I should carry the mortgage and invest the money, but I’m so glad I paid off my house in 2018.

by Anonymousreply 4August 3, 2020 9:27 PM

Except there are 3 vaccine in sight.

by Anonymousreply 5August 3, 2020 9:49 PM

There are half a dozen in stage III tests, R5, with the earliest results coming out in early October, but the earliest you're going to see mass production of a successful virus is 2021, and that's not even taking into consideration the logistical problems in making it available everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 6August 3, 2020 10:03 PM

Honestly, my mental health and I could do without pieces like this.

by Anonymousreply 7August 3, 2020 10:07 PM

They still can’t get tests ready in time, you think they can make a vaccine for billions?

HHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

by Anonymousreply 8August 3, 2020 10:11 PM

Stay positive

by Anonymousreply 9August 3, 2020 10:13 PM

Oh don't worry, there are plenty of poz folks out there.

by Anonymousreply 10August 3, 2020 10:14 PM

I'm not really sure who told Trump that schools must open, but it may turn out to be the worst decision of his entire presidency if/when little kids start dying and if there aren't any teachers left to teach.

On a side note, there sure are a lot of stories surfacing about groups of teachers leaving the profession, some to retire and some to just do something, anything else.

by Anonymousreply 11August 3, 2020 10:15 PM

I think we're headed for a massive depression far worse that the 1930's. Even if Trump gets kicked out (despite his hideousness he could still "win") the damage is done. He's fucked us over and the Repubs have been enabling him all along and continue to do so. We live in a plague state. Get used to homelessness and death.

by Anonymousreply 12August 3, 2020 10:21 PM

A vaccine would only provide short-term immunity. That is the nature of coronaviruses. In order for it to be effective, the population would have to get vaccinated how often - annually, biannually, every quarter? Dr. Fauci mentioned late last week that he thinks this will be around for decades. I feel like they're trying to ease the public into acceptance of the fact that we will all deal with this for the rest of our lives.

by Anonymousreply 13August 3, 2020 10:21 PM

There literally is nothing else to do R11, there are no jobs. I agree with the premise of this article that we don’t have a goddamned clue what is actually happening. I think we’re really not going to feel the pain as a whole for another six months. Then all bets are off, and it won’t matter at all who is President or anything else.

Things would have to have a complete reversal immediately, as in right now, today, for the impending crash not to hit us. And there really isn’t anything anyone can do to escape it. No amount of hoarding or stockpiling or running away to your bunker in Montana is going to fix it. We’re fucked. And it’s amazing how it’s this awful slow drip. It really would be so much better if it was like Hollywood and it all happened in fifteen minutes.

by Anonymousreply 14August 3, 2020 10:22 PM

We are frogs slowly getting boiled. No one is saying how bad it's going to get because they are either too stupid or they don't want to be labeled as alarmist. But we are definitely fucked.

by Anonymousreply 15August 3, 2020 10:30 PM

Once Biden wins, the media will gradually adopt the POV that it’s not as dangerous as we thought. We won’t have new info, but people will be happy to go back to some sort of normal and will just go along with it.

by Anonymousreply 16August 3, 2020 10:32 PM

Some part of me thinks these unrelenting catastrophic predictions (including by a number of posters on this thread) are meant to instill quietism in voters.

I mean, if we're fucked, we're fucked. Why even bother to vote for Biden?

by Anonymousreply 17August 3, 2020 10:38 PM

The chances of dying if you’re under 19 are statistically zero.

The chances of dying if you’re under 50 are lower than your chance of dying in an accident.

Nobody WANTS to get sick, but hysteria isn’t helpful. Our economy is fucked.

I live on 80 acres in the mountains, and I just installed bars on the windows. That will give me a minute to get my bearings. Everyone in the house has guns on magnets above their beds.

by Anonymousreply 18August 3, 2020 10:38 PM

Biden is going to need to go full-FDR to pull the country out of the coming mess.

by Anonymousreply 19August 3, 2020 10:42 PM

And TLC keeps subjecting us to quarantine editions of 90 Day Fiance. Don’t even get me started on E! and that appalling celebrity hotline show. I don’t want to watch other people hanging out at home.

by Anonymousreply 20August 3, 2020 10:46 PM

"but it may turn out to be the worst decision of his entire presidency if/when little kids start dying and if there aren't any teachers left to teach."

The National Education Association has been a thorn in the side of Republicans for decades, so this will work out quite nicely for them.

by Anonymousreply 21August 3, 2020 10:48 PM

[quote]I mean, if we're fucked, we're fucked. Why even bother to vote for Biden?

Because someone needs to pick up the pieces afterward. See, for example, Barack Obama inheriting the worst economy in nearly a century.

by Anonymousreply 22August 3, 2020 10:48 PM

I was being facetious, r22.

Please read my post in context.

by Anonymousreply 23August 3, 2020 10:50 PM

Sorry, but you sound insane R18.

by Anonymousreply 24August 3, 2020 10:50 PM

Yes, the virus is all the Republicans's fault. And AIDS is all the gay's fault.

If only Obama or Hillary were in charge, things would have been...exactly the same.

There is not going to be mass evictions. It isn't logically possible. The vaccine isn't going to magically develop and would take just as long. Whoever closed the economy is why it's broken. Of course if someone wanted to open it up, you all would be bitching about how unfair it is.

You are going to be paying for these freebies for a long time coming. So stop spreading gossip. OR better yet DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

by Anonymousreply 25August 3, 2020 10:53 PM

Yeah, but you're the Idiot Libertarian Troll and you've been predicting catastrophe for the past 20 years here. And in all that time you've never gotten anything right. This is what you wrote in 2013:

[quote]The fact that interest rates are rising DRAMATICALLY (over 50% in 6 weeks) means that the bond market is doomed.

[quote]I hope that anyone reading this has ---

[quote]C) called and prepped close family in the countryside, and given them money so they will take you in once the dollar dies.

by Anonymousreply 31August 3, 2020 11:02 PM

What happens with dollar hegemony once the dollar falls? What currency is lined up for buying oil or is the planet abandoning oil?

Is the US ready for China's currency to become the leading word currency once the dollar collapses?

For decades we've coveted being a super power and having the dollar be at the top of world currency, are we going crypto now? If so which one looks like it's lined up to be our new$$$.

by Anonymousreply 32August 3, 2020 11:03 PM

[quote] There is not going to be mass evictions. It isn't logically possible.

And who exactly is going to stop the wave of evictions that has already started, R25? The Republican President*? The Republican-held Senate? They'd rather watch the country burn to ashes.

It's astounding how paranoid all the rightwingers are with this "censored" info (see comments), and how they adoring the 'fine black doctor" Demon Sperm nutbag. Rethugs are in charge now. What's their fucking problem? Assholes.

by Anonymousreply 35August 3, 2020 11:12 PM

Things would have been "exactly the same", R25? Despite the complete lack of precautions and the complete insertion of 45's head in his anus? Pray tell how so.

by Anonymousreply 36August 3, 2020 11:29 PM

[quote]If only Obama or Hillary were in charge, things would have been...exactly the same.

You do realize that this is an incredibly stupid remark, right? Particularly in light of the fact that every other major industrialized nation has handled the virus far better than we did. We already know how Obama would have handled a major health crisis because he did handle such a crisis. And left a playbook behind that our current White House resident threw away.

[quote]Whoever closed the economy is why it's broken.

No, the pandemic is why the economy is fucked. Fix the pandemic and the economy fixes itself. Fail to fix the pandemic and the economy will remain fucked. And since Republicans in general, and Donald Trump in particular, don't have a clue how to the fix pandemic and, in the latter case, don't even want to, we will remain fucked and the economy will remain broken until we get someone sane in charge again.

Can we *please* get some smarter trolls? Clearly, they aren't sending their best.

by Anonymousreply 37August 3, 2020 11:37 PM

R36 & R37, he's just trying to get a rise out of you.

It's probably YourMillennialCunt, who has Hillary Derangement Syndrome.

Now, let’s do You Row.

by Anonymousreply 40August 4, 2020 5:11 AM

The US is collapsing into a fascist, totalitarian state that it brought upon itself. It's past the point of no return.

by Anonymousreply 41August 4, 2020 6:17 AM

The sad thing is that it really did not have to be like this. Canada is reopening. My home province has ZERO active cases.

I've been quarantining for months and it's worse than ever. I'm so goddamned angry. This year has been a complete fucking waste, and for NOTHING. Some people just go on living their lives like Typhoid Marys (I know some) and the federal government just spins it's fucking wheels. Why people aren't putting their heads on stakes at this point is beyond me. Trump deserves to be Mussolinied.

by Anonymousreply 42August 4, 2020 6:42 AM

Well. I took my Maryland Covid-19 test on July 14th. At 2:31a.m., with Quest Diagnostics probably responding to my 'where the fuck are my results' request, after 19 days I am deemed negative. Absolutely worthless process. I could now be exposed, asymptomatic, and spreading like Typhoid Ken everywhere. But no one will know that, because the FUCKING TEST RESULTS TAKE SO FUCKING LONG. They'll never be able to get this under control with the current testing. Everyone's gonna need a bio-hazard sealed body suit with filtered oxygen tank just to survive. Otherwise, you're gonna get Covid-19, and you'll get Covid-19, we'll all get Covid-19.

by Anonymousreply 43August 4, 2020 7:17 AM

Our corrupt and incompetent government, tacitly endorsed by the repugnant Trump admin, have thrown their collective hands up and essentially said, “we give up”. They know they can’t control this any longer and so the new tactic is to make people numb to death (now at over 1k per day).

Meanwhile Rethugs in Congress INSIST that they won’t extend $600 per week benefits while 40 million people starve and risk eviction or foreclosure. They must want to lose the White House, Senate, and House in November, or they’ve already resigned to the fact that they will, and are looking at one last chance to stick it to the little people.

This admin should be held criminally liable for the way in which it has handled the pandemic.

by Anonymousreply 44August 4, 2020 7:30 AM

R39 In less than ten years since China initiated the process of internationalizing their currency the following events have occurred:

- The yuan was declared an official reserve currency by the IMF

- Financial institutions conducting business in yuan increased tenfold

- ~18% of China's trade was settled in yuan (up from ~3%)

But keep laughing, I guess.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 45August 4, 2020 9:38 AM

The yuan lacks convertibility, is tied to the dollar, and Beijing wants to maintain tight controls on it (I.e. not allow it to become a free floating currency).

Now China is likely to be the first country to launch its central bank-backed electronic currency (DC/EP) which should increase cross border yuan payments, especially along the Belt & Road countries, BUT the issues above are why I don’t think the Yuan stands a chance of displacing US dollar hegemony anytime soon

by Anonymousreply 46August 4, 2020 10:02 AM

Just as I predicted, Dump, our government and elected officials have failed US. First by their pitiful response to the pandemic, and second, for their refusal to come to an agreement on additional stimulus.

This Fall is going to be awful for so many people.

The problem with the virus is, yes statistically you have a low chance of dying, but the more who get sick, the more it mutates. There are people out there like DL Hugley, zero symptons, collapse from it out of the blue. Imagine if that was your pilot, or boat captin or busdriver? Americans are bound and determine to ingore it in the guise of FREEDOM! - South Korea nixed it, New Zealand nixed it. How? They fucking got strict, locked down the country and the people until there were no more cases. Boom. Strong leaders is what we need. Not some orange cheeto who is afraid of making a decision.

by Anonymousreply 49September 12, 2020 3:51 PM

Ok, I am no expert. But with the appointments to the fed and generally malfeasance on the part of the White House, it appears that the markets are being propped up.

Win win for that camp. The markets seem to be headed for a real correction. If he gets back in, He will blame the dems. If he loses, then the crater gets passed to Biden. Biden, being a real leader will focus on fixing things.

I’m sorry, but being a better man doesn’t convince the population in this era. There needs to be a scorched earth policy to properly blame trump for what he has done. Just like Trump blames anything bad on Obama.

The bloody pulpit can only work if the president is behind it.

by Anonymousreply 50September 12, 2020 4:12 PM

R50 Trump could win and every Senate & House seat could flip Republican and they’d find a way to blame Democrats and Liberals.

by Anonymousreply 51September 12, 2020 4:15 PM

by Anonymousreply 52September 12, 2020 4:22 PM

r11 - I came across a very interesting article quite by accident in the Washington Post this week on teachers and trends i.e, pods. Fascinating profile of a few teachers one moving from Florida to Oregan (I think), others remaining as teachers. Interviews with school reps saying they don't blame teachers for mass exodus going on from teaching in public schools to these private learning pods. I'll try to find it and link on this thread. It's a must read.

by Anonymousreply 53September 12, 2020 4:25 PM

r11 here again. I can't seem to get past paywall today (I signed in last week). Anyway, see if you can find this well researched, well written article in WP entitled:

In Manhattan, either this winter or next, all snowplows will be out of commission or not in the budget. Expect snow-covered streets and random bonfires up and down the avenues at night. Homeless people living out of abandoned cars, getting around via the bankrupt Citibike system and decked out in clothes from looted H & Ms.
