It seems she might have cooked it up with that pap, so she'd have an excuse to get the father out of the picture. The heart attack was either a real result of this or the father trying to save face after feeling embarrassed for accepting the pap's offer.

Either way, I'm certain that Meghan much preferred having Charles walk her up the aisle, and no risk of the father opening his mouth at the reception to undo one or more of her lies to the family.

It all worked out suspiciously well for her...
