As a (mostly closeted) gay teen I thought both Madonna and especially Sandra Bernhard were fierce, funny, and heroic. This was the late 80s.
Madonna was never really funny or heroic, and fierce mostly in terms of her own ambitions.
Bernhard is no longer funny and about as fresh as week-old bread. I seriously can't believe she has any career left.
Ah, well.

R9, Sandra was cool back then. My friend dragged me to “Without You, I’m Nothing” in an actual theater. We smoked some weed and went in. I had no idea who she was, or anything, and I was at a loss for words.
I wonder if that’s on YouTube...

Bob Hope.
Yes, I realize he was never cool. I wasn’t a good judge of coolness when I was younger.

There's a movie version of WITHOUT YOU I'M NOTHING, R22. I didn't see her stage show but I saw the movie version, numerous times. And pretty much committed her better monologues to memory.
People tell me the film is pretty faithful to her stage show at the Orpheum, was it?
She never, ever surpassed that, IMHO, and I've seen her perform live half a dozen times.

Tom Burton (turns out he’s a hack)
Marilyn Manson (just lame these days)

Quentin Tarantino (also a bit of a hack)

Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino have been disappointing considering all the hype around their careers. Burton has been making the same film over and over again for 20 years or more, and Tarantino cuts and pastes from the most obscure post-Golden Age pieces of shit he can legally get away with and calls himself Hitchcock, Scorsese, and Peckinpah all rolled into one.
