I had a horrible panic attack on Marijuana Edibles!
I took one last night thinking it would help me sleep and instead it did the opposite.
I felt like I couldn't breathe. The high lasted way too long and I couldn't sleep. This is my first negative experience with an edible but it's been a LONG time since I've had one.
This edible was way stronger than anything I've ever experienced when I was younger. Are they pumping more THC in them or something?

Paranoia is a common side-effect of marijuana. If you only took half a gummy, then you probably hadn't used it in a long time to have such a strong reaction. If you eat another half gummy tomorrow, the effect will likely be less.
The more you use it, the less its efficacy is.
If you live in a state where the sale of recreational pot is legal, the dispensaries can help you find a strain more suitable for you.

Marijuana always makes me panicky. Tried it a few times, with the same result, before giving it up.
Annoying, because it would be healthier than drinking my cares away.

^^ Edibles got me through the early stages of the coronavirus lockdown. I ate a gummy every day for weeks and it saved my sanity. I rarely use it now, although I'm in a state where we're sheltering in place.

It's giggly eyeballs.
Don't laugh, it's happened to me.
I once took edibles and became impatient for them to kick in so I smoked a spliff.. later the shadows of my houseplants started dancing on their own.
Just jiggly eyeballs.
A while back I remember a similar sounding term Jiggly Heffa. Was it Robin from General Hospital?

I got a tincture at a dispensary for pain (really for pain—they seemed confused that I wanted to use it as medicine) and I got a low-THC one for daytime and they talked me into a higher-THC one that they said would help me sleep well.
NOPE.
Both stopped severe joint pain I was having, which really surprised me.
The low-THC one gave me a trippy feeling of time moving along in a jerky way and then made me paranoid the police were going to knock down my door (??!).
The one higher in THC stopped my pain and made me drowsy. I was happy about that and got in bed. I closed my eyes and suddenly there were crazy looking neon goblins everywhere. It gave me closed-eye hallucinations. It terrified me and I couldn’t sleep all night.
I wouldn’t try MJ after that. I just think my body doesn’t like it.

Sometimes what you eat can interact with the THC and make you anxious as fuck. I smoke now not even for the THC, but the CBD which calms my anxiety. Don't get me wrong I like the buzz of feeling high which you get from THC, but increasingly I've been smoking or eating stuff with high ratio of CBD. It really does it for me.

I've tried various times over the years to enjoy weed and it just doesn't hack it for me. I feel like everything is moving in a slow, pixelated-cable time-warp.
I've come to the conclusion that people are either drinkers or smokers, rarely both.

R22, I have friends who love to get "cross-faded" (i.e. drink and smoke at the same time). I didn't get it. The two effects seemed to cancel each other out.

The dosage should be clearly labeled on the packaging. 10mg is considered a "serving" in most legal cannabis states, but that may be too much for some people (especially if it's sativa-based). As they say—start small and work your way up. Know your dose.

R23, being cross faded feels super good, but to me you should always drink first. Getting drunk already stoned is not fun.

The most useful defence a tripper can have against bad trips is the ability to change the setting. Changing the music, the lighting, the room or just about anything can have a huge influence on the mindset of a person who is tripping, and this makes it an invaluable technique.
Or take a couple Xanax.

Interesting to read this thread as I had the exact same reaction to 1/2 of a gummy: nervous, paranoid, racing heart. Afraid to walk down the stairs, was sure I'd fall? Similar effects from a vape pen as well, so I suppose I'm done with the THC.

My partner used to be a big pothead back in the day and used to handle his drugs pretty well. He hadn't touched any drugs in years, but thought he'd try some of my edibles. I gave him 1/8 of my Lego brick, and he had the same type of reaction as OP. It was Indica, too, so it should have relaxed him. He buzzed all night, though. Edibles can be pretty potent I guess. I find if I want edibles to help me relax and sleep well, I have to take a dose around mid afternoon. Or at least a good 4-5 hours before I go to bed.

Edibles these days are POTENT. Especially for novices. I’m still fairly new to them, but I’ve learned there is a predictable arc to most highs: First, I get giggly/gregarious (I get talkative and believe everything I say is witty; normally this is the shortest phase). Then comes the sensory high (this is the time for music, movies, visuals; often i have “profound thoughts”). Finally, the dark phase creeps in. This can snowball into paranoia if you’re not quick to volley negative thoughts away.
I’ve had several strains and they all have these phases, but they very in length and intensity. A big part of my experience with paranoia involves other people, so it’s best to remain occupied with music or movies throughout the high.
Also, does anyone else have a problem reading while high? I can’t focus enough to do it, but it seems like it would be amazing.

i've had largely negative experiences with edibles, honestly. yes, they take awhile to take effect, so eating brownies at the random party is a no-no...you have no idea what strain it is. i spent 4 hours at a house party (luckily it was a close family friend) CONVINCED i was dying and an ambulance needed to be called. several years later while in recovery from alcohol, i tried edibles from a dispensary. i couldn't get the amount to ingest right and one night was spent convinced i was experiencing the after life while being awake and listening to a bizarre movie in the background. plus my dog reacts badly whenever i have smoked or ingested edibles...i'm convinced because he almost died from marijuana intoxication as a pup of 3 months (not my fault, but of the people that were staying with me at the time in SF...they must have dropped a bud that he ingested). i haven't smoked or ingested for about 2 1/2 years now. it's just hard for me to gauge.

"Three gummies" or "one half a gummy" is meaningless -- it's the dosage that counts, then the strain. Did you take a half of a 5 mg gummy or half of a 50 mg gummy?

I miss smoking 'regular' good weed that didn't send me into outer space -- just something that greatly enhanced the experience of walking around my backyard looking at the trees and flowers. I'd go for a walk around my neighborhood, which was working class. Back then the older people were of a much higher caliber than the old people these days. They had small vegetable gardens, tidy front lawns, a couple well-tended hybrid tea rosebushes and maybe ONE cool novelty like a unique whirligig that the old couple made themselves, or something along those lines. This current crop of old people all have that same goddamned big bronze-colored "kinetic sculpture" windmill-flower thing and an array of plastic solar geegaw shit, and those awful "easy" rosebushes they came out with fifteen years ago infected with rose rosette and they don't even give a fuck because they're inside eating Wendy's and posting angry reaction emojis to fake news on Facebook.
But anyway, is that kind of weed still around? Where everything looks more vivid and smells more intensely, music sounds like it was recorded only for people who are high, and you are funny and cute without the darkness. What happened? Is the presence of smartphones ruining it now?

Maybe because I'm exactly what r39 says, or maybe because I smoked my first joint at 12, I know exactly how to be as stoned as I want from smoking. I have a lot to learn with edibles, and it's not like they're new to me.

I don't believe there is very good quality control with some edibles, especially the gummies. I've had some with very little effect and taken the same mg from a different batch/bag and been high out of my mind. I read around online and discovered others with the same experience. I also read the issues with quality control on edibles. You might be better off to try making your own so you know what and how much is in there.

I made my own canna butter fudge once and ate too much, waking up at 4 am spinning like I was going to die. I was high for an entire day and had to go to work that way, yikes that was something.
The prepackaged edibles are pretty easy to judge the potency of 5mg is a glowy functional light buzz, 10mg will get you high.

I had some pre packaged gummy bears last weekend from a friend, the package said 18 mg THC per bear, so I googled to find a dosing chart and it said 18 mg was mid range but likely to cause some sensory disruption and anxiety. I decided to eat only 1/3 of the bear and two hours later felt nothing. So I took 1/2 of one of the other 1/3 pieces an an hour later still nothing. I slept well though. The next day I took 1/2 a bear, just felt mildly sleepy but no euphoria, no hallucinations, no giggles, no munchies, no panic, nothing like that.

Yeah, milligrams matter. For me, one mint w. just 2.5 mg, which might be as low as they go, is a tasty little tune up. Agreed, by the way, that the QC, the amount of THC per edible, seems at least a little bit sloppy.

I was never into weed before Covid but edibles have been my savior through these crazy months. I don’t like to drink when I’m anxious or sad, so tried edibles to medicate against them madness.
You do build a tolerance. I usually take 10 mg, but I’ve taken 20 mg on certain days. That’s usually way too much, but no ill effects.
