Even back at the start of his career, Corden was at it. He used to utterly ruin my nightly viewing of A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (2010). Picture me, merely wishing to indulge my embarrassing comp-het crush on Jamie Redknapp, only to have to sit through horrifying half-hour stints of James puffing and yelling his way through awful TelePrompter gags and sniggering bouts of corpsing. He used to bully guests with inane needling remarks, cackle over the good one-liners from other comedians, as well as gratuitously break into skits where he would sing and dance to no comic effect.

He’s a comedian by trade, yet nothing he ever did or said on telly even back then was amusing. He’s a basically capable compére and voice-actor, I will give him that, but a shit-hot comic? Nah, son. If you make Jack Whitehall & Romesh Ranganathan look charismatic, watchable and sophisticated, then you need a change of career.

Unduly they have earned megabucks and have been put in the press a hundred times more often than true GOATs of the 21st Century such as Messi, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Xavi, Kaká, Gerrard, etc.

I'll give you Beckham and Pique (and they're not so big outside their home countries), but CR7 for all his celebrity is definitely a genuine football GOAT, particularly for Real Madrid and Portugal, even though he's also proved himself in the Premier League and Serie A, unlike Messi at Barca who's had the team built around him at the expense of others. He's richer and more famous for a reason, he's certainly not sailing by on his likeability as I'm sure you're aware. I'd also add Fat Ronaldo to the list of greats. Pique, Beckham and GERRARD, don't belong on it.

To be fair you could sub Gerrard with his PL GOAT contemporaries Silva, Makelele, Iniesta, Henry, Vieira, Rooney or Lampard. None of the aforementioned are or have been constantly in the press as often as closet-case Cristiano, though, which is the really the issue germane to the thread. His superstardom is so ubiquitous and suffocating that it drives me up the wall (and probably him, too). I also found that whole rape story about him very suspect - whether it was truth or lies, it was awful. Love watching him fly across the pitch, but could do without him choking the life out of every footie conversation like a vine.
