This happened in 2008 as well, tons of the Breitbart-style "black crime" threads and ESTs. This is basically the same phenomenon, slightly modified for 2020.

Your point is correct, OP, your "reason why" is not.

They come to DL because they know that erudite homosexuals will argue back with them and it allows them to better hone their arguments and responses before taking them to larger platforms.

They get that they are not going to change the minds of anyone on DL, and that even if they did, there are maybe a few hundred regulars at most, but Twitter and Facebook is another story.

One other way to ID them is that they will often use rational sounding arguments, e.g., "I am not a fan of Trump, but he may have a pont...."

For years idiots on DL said that Black Lives Matter was a plot by Russia to sow division among Americans where none existed. Those idiots were wrong: BLM is a legitimate and powerfulment movement. Some threads might be planted by Russians, etc., but you are living in a dream world if you think Americans are not capable of expressing racist views on their own.

BLM is a legitimate movement that we already know has been manipulated by Russia for its own agenda.

No one is saying BLM is illegitimate. They're saying trolls are posting BLM-style rants, anti-BLM troll posts, and racebait posts of all types to try to create discord and distrust.

As for DL "not being popular enough," as one guy ALWAYS claims any time this comes up, trolls have been organizing to congregate on small forums for years, because the message doesn't get lost on a small forum the way it does on larger ones.

Someone that got redtagged last year as being from Brazil and who was creating tons of threads every day that were flamebait and contrarian was able to post here for FOUR YEARS with the same IP and nothing was done. When they got redtagged, you could search for the "troll 5999" (or whatever number it was) via Google and see their posts went back for years.

And then their redtag disappeared. Another troll from Czech Republic had a redtag which also disappeared.

They could be back for all we know.

Datalounge has for the last two years, been basically a race bait site. Once I would count at least 10 new race bait threads a day. And they always fill up very fast.

Funny how I have posted black on black, black on white, white on Asian threads about violence and those don't even get to ten replies.

So I disagree with the OP, while some additional ones may be posted, this trend is at least two years old if not older.

DL is the hardship post for right wing trolls.

Muriel has said we are hit by troll farms. Only actual Russian trolls would say otherwise. There’s a lot of foreign influence on DL and it has been proven as Muriel has read tagged trolls and said from troll farm in India or from troll farm in Slovenia or Macedonia. They want to have free reign on DL because this is where they hone their skills in their messaging for bigger platforms.

It's straight out of Bannon/Breitbart playbook: "Keep 'em talking about identity politics divisions." During 2008/2012 elections, there were this Stormfront trolls who would link to an incredibly offensive, openly racist website whose name I wouldn't even dare to write myself, trying to fuel gay/black divsions. They were also starting a ton of misogynistic threads at the time, trying to pit us against straight women in general. In 2016, the racial component was still there but they realized that anti-trans threads tend to linger around longer than the misogynistic ones (or, maybe, they realized that divide was easier to create?) In any case, expect all of this to intensify in the lead up to November.
