well the repub party of present is certainly not the party it was before the 1960s. They are basically an anti-truth, anti-science, hate mongering zealous cult that wants to bring the country backwards.
Look at their most recent bunch of assholes who inhabited the White House: Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and Trump. All of them had asshole agendas that had to be cleaned up by Democrats

If they should be banned, make it for actual wrongdoings:
Attempting to subvert the Constitution
Denying people the right to vote
Opposing basic human rights
A long list of hate crimes against blacks, gays and other minorities
Encouraging acts of violence against other citizens and branches of government
The list can go on, but the truth is, nothing will happen. Their stupid, often gullible and bitter supporters are still with us.

As somebody who has voted since LBJ's time, it was Reagan who messed up the party. He brought the Dixiecrats out of the Democratic party and created the rethugs.
They were made up of Lincoln hating racist idiots from the confederacy days, southern religous nutz that embraced "family values", etc. Religious fakes like Jerry Falwell.
TheOrangeShitAss is the ideal president of those wackos

I don't think they should be banned. They, including their supporters like Rupert Murdoch with the FOX News media outlet, should be shamed and ridiculed for their shameless hot button pushing manipulations to create a hostile environment in the US.
The "Never Forget" should be attached to them (how their shameless hypocrisy, their bold lies, criminal activity, hate and fear mongering got them into power).

R18 Reagan made it worse and solidified the party we know today (along with Gingrich and his partisan warfare in the 90s) but wasn't it Nixon with the southern strategy thing in the late 60s/early 70s that really turned the party to trash after civil rights act?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 10, 2020 7:56 PM |
I think the Democratic Party should be banned first - for not standing up for the people and failing spectacularly time and time again. They knew better. And caused the needless death of thousands and the untold suffering of millions.
And put Pelosi Schumer and Schiff behind bars for incompetence. For as their enemy puts it:
Donald Trump was willing to halt criminal investigations to “give personal favors to dictators he liked”, according to a new book written by his former national security adviser John Bolton.
In his memoir, due to be published later this month, Bolton reports that Trump pleaded with China’s President Xi Jinping to help him get re-elected by buying more US agricultural products, according to accounts of his forthcoming memoir.
In his pursuit of a good personal relationship with Xi, Trump is described as brushing aside human rights issues, even providing encouragement to the communist leader to continue to build concentration camps for China’s Muslim Uighur population.
In his book, which Trump’s justice department has attempted to stop being published, Bolton argues the House impeachment inquiry should have ranged much further than just Trump’s efforts to pressure the Ukrainian government for his own political gain.
According to excerpts published by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and the Washington Post, Bolton describes a pattern of corruption in which Trump routinely attempts to use the leverage of US power on other countries to his own personal ends.
“The pattern looked like obstruction of justice as a way of life, which we couldn’t accept,” Bolton writes, adding that he took his concerns to the attorney general, William Barr.
The anecdote involving Xi is particularly damaging for Trump in the run-up to an election in which he is trying to position himself as tough on China, and his opponent, Joe Biden, as being in Beijing’s pocket

R52's post must be the most imbecilic thing I've read on DL in a while (and that's saying a lot).
The war that the Nazi Party started resulted in the deaths of ca. *80 million people*. And probably an even bigger number were injured and died later. That's like if a QUARTER of the entire modern U.S. population was killed.
Of course it doesn't seem that bad for people living in the States. Because, hey, the Nazis did almost no damage to U.S. cities. People could still take their kids to the pool and throw BBQ parties. People didn't even bother locking their front-porch doors. For most Americans, life went on like normal. Which is why most Americans have little appreciation for the horrors of war - and why both GOPers and Dems keep voting in war criminals into office.

R71: The antiwar movement was nothing but a front for selfish and racist white men who would rather let people of color suffer under the whims of a dictator then actually inconvenience themselves by doing anything about it. Trump proved that irrefutably.
War is progressive when the enemy is deplorable. Joe Biden’s bombing of Syria was the most progressive bombing this country has ever engaged in. Not since the bombing of Dresden has a country had it coming this much. You’re basically a Nazi if you don’t support war with them at this point. They hate everybody Hitler hated.
