People Who Resemble Art

A coworker of mine looks EXACTLY like the woman on the right in this picture. It's eerie.

Does comic book art count? Actor Desmond Harrington always looks like a John Byrne sketch from the 80s come to life.

Sweetie, that AIN’T art.

Léon Bonnat’s self-portrait could quite well be a portrait of me. It’s uncanny. I even usually have the same vexed expression. My beard, however, isn’t spotty like his was.

My getaway in the Cotswolds looks exactly like this masterpiece, OP. Like you, I love fine art. My friend Barbra is an art lover too, and has a similar cottage in Malibu.

My friend looks like this painting of a Polish princess which hangs in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere in Vienna.

Ah, come on, poster making fun of OP's painting. Sure it's art--not the finest or in the most impeccable taste, but it's pretty decent genre painting. Definitely worlds better than Thomas Kinkade (TM), Painter of Light (TM).

I deleted the photos from my phone, but I found doppelgängers of Richard Nixon and Zach Galifianakis in medieval tapestries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I really wish I hadn’t. They’re uncanny.

by Anonymousreply 11June 6, 2020 2:40 AM

^^ when the museum opens back up, I’ll go and look for them.

R17, I thought for sure it was going so be some George Grosz monstrosity at your link.

No, more like a Fernando Botero

by Anonymousreply 26June 6, 2020 4:45 AM

Oh, I love Grosz, too, R21, but there's no denying (to my mind, at least), that some of his people were absolutely gross (ha ha).

by Anonymousreply 27June 6, 2020 3:36 PM

I always thought Carol Kane was very beautiful. That photo looks like a Julia Margaret Cameron portrait, too.

I have a friend who looks like a portrait of a woman that hangs in the SF Legion of Honor's European collection. A group of us go to the new exhibits together every year and she'll stand next to the portrait and we get silly over how much they look alike. I searched but couldn't find a photo, it's not one of their major works.

Nobody in particular but I always take notice of faces that look like Rossetti paintings, that specific Rossetti look, they're distinctive and sometimes very striking and beautiful:

by Anonymousreply 37June 6, 2020 7:24 PM

That's Rossetti's muse and wife, Elizabeth Siddal, R37. She was also an artist and died at 32 from an opioid overdose.

No, but Vertigo! At first I thought the still was from the Birds but I couldn't remember a museum scene. The Birds is one of my all time favorites. Love Vertigo, too.
