Names that are timeless
Inspired by the "Names that instantly date someone" thread.
What names don't pin their bearers to a certain time period in the 20th Century?
For me, David, John, Paul, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Ann come to mind.
Maybe there is something about certain Biblical names that so deeply penetrates Western culture that they've become timeless

About 10 years ago I was reading a NY Times article and they have articles from the 1800s on their site. I clicked on one of them and it had birth announcements or possibly death notices. Anyway, I noticed a person had the first name Ivory. I kept clicking through the articles and I also a name Diamond.

r14 I was thinking about names of English monarchs (some of which are also biblical) ... Edward, Richard, James, Henry, William. Interestingly, "John" is one of the most timeless English names and is also the name of one of the least popular English kings.
Of course, we don't see pre-1066 names a lot (Edgar is an exception), although I once worked with a woman whose father was named "Ethelbert"

Amanda.
It seems more modern, but then every so often you hear of a woman who lived 100 years ago with the name.

What do you think about “Mary”?
I went on ancestry.com and looked up my family, and I noticed my family had the name Mary every generation for hundreds of years. It doesn’t seem common now, but does it date women?

You really lack a basic understanding of cause-and-effect.
I bet the question of chicken or egg really baffles you.

Do explain, r26. I'm apparently too dense to understand your point.

Exhausting fundie nutbaggery. Are you "just asking questions" OP?
To paraphrase St. Thomas Aquinas: If you understand, not explanation is necessary. If you don't understand, no explanation is possible.

The 3 categories of timeless (Western) names are: Biblical, Classical, and Saint. Literary names (Pamela) might also be considered timeless but they are modern classics.
