Are any of you starting back to work on Monday (June 1)?

What state are you in and what's the situation there? Anyone planning to refuse to show up?

by Anonymousreply 32June 5, 2020 10:58 AM

Nope, still wfh here in MA. Our company is phasing in bringing back people who cannot do their jobs remotely first and the rest us are not expected back during the summer.

by Anonymousreply 1May 30, 2020 5:11 PM

The research wing of my employer (a public university) never truly closed, just dropped down to 25% work-in-person. On Monday we’re ramping up research groups to 50% but everyone who is able to work remotely is encouraged to do so.

My boss, one other coworker and I are the only three in our unit of 20 or so employees who WANT to go back to the office. For my part there’s ~5% of my job that can’t be done remotely that I’ve put off for nearly 3 months, then I’ll probably keep working from home.

We’ll probably be the only three people in the building.

by Anonymousreply 2May 30, 2020 5:14 PM

I have been working from home with one morning in the office a week. that is continuing for... forever maybe. there are people who will need to start coming into the office but it will be staggered so only 25 percent occupancy and still distancing.

I have been receiving conflicting information from my company. I was recently hospitalized (severe depression), while I've also received a letter telling me I'm overdue for my return to work. I've just been continuing to take the van to my outpatient hospital therapy, and ignoring the demand to return to work. I'm not supposed to return to work anyway without a written statement from my doctor, which I don't have. It's been a huge clusterfuck, which is one of the (many) reasons for my anxiety and depression. I've decided to try to protect my mental health at this point, and my family feels I've been making progress.

by Anonymousreply 4May 31, 2020 1:58 AM

I’m ready to go back. Working from home has extended my work hours unbelievably.

I’m ready for work/life separation.

by Anonymousreply 5May 31, 2020 2:09 AM

We’re looking at maybe June 8 in NY but I won’t be going back anytime soon, at least until it’s proven that it can’t spread through HVAC.

by Anonymousreply 6May 31, 2020 2:37 AM

R4, I think you need a letter from your doctor saying you’re too sick to return to work. Please get it! Look at your benefits booklet and see what it says about “short term disability” and “long term disability”. They can have different requirements. But you’ll want to fulfill your employer’s requirements and do so promptly.

My own experience was I was out on sick leave and after three days, they fired me. I’d been treated by a doctor For a neuromuscular disease for years, but hadn’t seen him in that three days to get a note. I had to sue, and settled for peanuts.

It doesn’t have to be a difficult process to qualify for leave, but you may have to act promptly. Make sure you do what is required to formerly get on approved leave. Good luck, sweetie!

My company has a state contract for behavior health and work closely with the Department of Children and Families. We probably won't get back into the office until the end of June which is when state workers are expected to be back.

Before my company closed the office most people in my department were working 1-2 days a week from home. I'm guessing when this is all over it will be reversed and only be in the office 1-2 days a week.

by Anonymousreply 8June 3, 2020 11:25 AM

I hope so. I am soooooooo disgusted with being stuck between 4 walls in the house.

by Anonymousreply 9June 3, 2020 11:26 AM

First week of my summer vacation. Back to work mid-August

by Anonymousreply 10June 3, 2020 11:26 AM

"back to work" ???

Most white collars have been working from home all through this shit show.

Blue collars who did not get fired have been working, as well.

by Anonymousreply 11June 3, 2020 11:41 AM

Heading back to work June 8. NOT looking forward to it. there is no indication the business owner will provide any protection for the staff.

by Anonymousreply 12June 3, 2020 11:56 AM

[quote] I’m ready to go back. Working from home has extended my work hours unbelievably.

I agree that the workday has become endless but it's still far better than working in that snake pit of an office.

No way am I going back. I had deferred my planned retirement as they furloughed all the hourly people and we managers had to cover remotely, so as soon as they bring those people back, I'll gracefully make my exit.

If I were not going to retire, I'd have a strong case for being able to work remotely since I've been doing it since March 16, and if they said no, I'd find another job (easier said than done, I agree). I am no longer willing to spend an hour and 20 minutes on the train each way. If this pandemic has taught me anything, it's that life is short and it can all go away in a second, and that I'm not going to waste one second more on a job I hated for way too long.

by Anonymousreply 13June 3, 2020 12:34 PM

My employer has indicated we are likely to keep working from home through the summer.

by Anonymousreply 14June 3, 2020 12:38 PM

My company’s office lease is up in December. They will be looking for much smaller space since it’s been proven that the majority of people can work from home most of the time, and most people prefer it.

When we go back next week at 50% staff or less it’s the people with young children who have volunteered to be the first ones back.

by Anonymousreply 15June 3, 2020 1:01 PM

childcare is an issue. the schools and day care centers are closed indefinitely.

by Anonymousreply 16June 3, 2020 1:14 PM

I went back to work on June 1. It sucks, especially since restaurants are not back open, and grocery stores and other businesses are still requiring masks and social distancing.

I really hate this "new normal."

I say that all employers should be required to let us work from home, until ALL "safer at home" restrictions are lifted, and masks aren't required any more.

It's such a stupid contradiction to say, "Stay at home, don't eat at restaurants, wear a mask everywhere, keep your distance from other people, but go into your office." That makes NO FUCKING SENSE TO ME.

There's only one reason that businesses are sending people back to work, and it's so that they don't have to pay you for staying at home.

If there's one thing that trumps a pandemic, it's MONEY.

Lousy fuckers.

by Anonymousreply 17June 3, 2020 1:19 PM

[quote] There's only one reason that businesses are sending people back to work, and it's so that they don't have to pay you for staying at home.

My company has a very old-fashioned mindset, especially my boss. If he walks by your office and sees you at your desk he thinks you're working. No matter that you're surfing the Internet or doing your taxes, to him desk=work.

If we were allowed to continue to work from home, he'd have to step up his management game. He'd have to actually have conference calls, lay out goals and assignments, and follow up, something he rarely does now. He doesn't even use the intercom, he just brays your name and you have to scamper into his office to see what The Great One wants.

Of course, HIS boss's management skills are as poor as his are.

by Anonymousreply 18June 3, 2020 1:32 PM

The casino where I work opens tomorrow. I'm giving it a week for some of the glitches and fuckups to be dealt with, then going back. I need to add that management at the casino has been pretty wonderful during the last three months; no one was permanently laid off, the department heads kept in constant contact by phone or text, not just general notices, offered financial aid and provided free testing. They even made a pretty funny wink at the layoff being 'fattening' by saying that 'for those who wear uniforms, new, um, 'upsized' unis would be available, no questions asked".

by Anonymousreply 19June 3, 2020 3:02 PM

Hon, I never stopped work. I’m tired as fuck. Wish I could have been on a paid vacation these past few months.

by Anonymousreply 20June 3, 2020 6:55 PM

I don’t know anyone who was on a paid vacation r20. People were either equipped to work from home, furloughed or terminated.

by Anonymousreply 21June 3, 2020 7:09 PM

Working from home is not a paid vacation. I wish I was on paid vacation, my boss has been more on top of us to make sure we are still being productive.

by Anonymousreply 22June 3, 2020 7:33 PM

I have two months off starting this Friday.

by Anonymousreply 23June 3, 2020 7:42 PM

We started an optional come into the office rotation this week at the nonprofit i work at. I was assigned a 4 hour time slot on tuesday ams through summer IF i want to go in. Went in this week with only 2 other employees. My boss agreed this is dumb since we are getting it all done from home successfully. I may go in every other week to get paper/files etc but i think we’ll be working from home Year round at least 3 days a week post-pandemic.

by Anonymousreply 24June 4, 2020 2:16 PM

I have a job I can 100% do from home because my team is scattered all around the US. Everything is done virtual. But my company wants to slowly phase us back to the office. I think it’s ridiculous to put myself in harms way for something that’s not necessary. We’ll see how this plays out.

by Anonymousreply 25June 4, 2020 2:18 PM

I'm not progressed far along in my professional life to have the option to work from home, I only wish I could.

I heading back next week and feel miserable about it.

by Anonymousreply 26June 4, 2020 2:19 PM

My office never stopped. We were deemed essential in our state. I've enjoyed the slightly slower pace and I know its given us a chance to catch up on our backlog. Typically, here in the uncool and irrelevant middle of the country, no one in our office has had the virus or really know anyone with it.

by Anonymousreply 27June 4, 2020 2:22 PM

Nope. Likely not until September 1.

Federal employee in the Bay Area. If the pandemic wasn't enough, the protests are another layer of unsafety. A security officer for the Federal Building in Oakland was mortally shot Friday night. Our offices are in prime protest locations.

Not to mention public transit in the Bay Area is virtually at 10% of capacity.

WFH is going to be a reality for the long run in the area.

by Anonymousreply 28June 4, 2020 3:13 PM

[quote] Typically, here in the uncool and irrelevant middle of the country, no one in our office has had the virus or really know anyone with it.

I envy you. Our office had two people (that I'm aware of) die in early April, and everyone knows someone in their own circle of friends and relatives who either died or knew someone who did.

I have not gone back in, but co-workers who have say they have hung plastic sheets around peoples' desks in open areas. I'm not sure what good that's going to do, it's already been shown that air conditioning can circulate the virus.

Convene, cubefraus, convene! Our Lord says it is so that we will be Protected and Safe (TM) so no time like the present!

by Anonymousreply 30June 5, 2020 10:41 AM

I went back to work on June 1st just to catch up on the bits of my job that can’t be done over the network. Our assistant director stopped in for something or another, then went back home. My boss comes in because his ISP is terrible.

Despite our employer’s requirement that everyone wear masks, almost no one did. The facilities guys, other employees I passed on my way in, tourists wandering around the campus. I took care of what I needed to do and went back home.

by Anonymousreply 31June 5, 2020 10:43 AM

Still WFH until further notice.

I’m also at a University, and administration has just allowed a gradual return for research units. Those of us who are not research, or who can do all research activities remotely, no word yet on our return.
