What the hell genre of music was this?
A shitty song.

Disco is mostly an uninspired, cheap, fad genre of dance music but I finally felt this number after hearing it in Climax last year.

It was Euro-Pop, probably...because he's French.
We didn't tend to use the word "disco" for every record you could dance to, or give it any sort of label. That came later.

Disco was called disco.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 27, 2020 10:03 AM |
Was it a popular song?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 27, 2020 10:09 AM |
I worked in a disco in the late 1970s and that song was very popular. This was one of those songs with much less soul than other dance hits.

Are you all brain dead? If ONLY there was a way to get such basic info.
Was it a song?
Did it play on the radio?
Did people dance to this song?
Was it popular?
So, it was a song on the radio?
Did they play it on the radio?
Did it sell?

Disco was a phenomenon of the mid-70s that came out of funk and soul music. It influenced Pop music in the 80s to very dance oriented with rhythm boxes rather than drums. Even rock songs had a kind of danc-ey electronic sound to them. In the 80s dance music was just called dance music or (especially later 80s) "techno". This might have been called pop or dance music in the 80s, but again, the lines were somewhat blurred.

R15 is wrong. Disco was called disco. It was a disco song. People knew what disco was. The chart was called "dance music", however. Crissakes.

What about this song? Was this song considered disco?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 27, 2020 11:58 AM |
R29 Yes, it was considered disco. Today, it would be considered electronica or "trance" music.

Was Donna on coke during singing that song R29?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 27, 2020 12:02 PM |
I love disco for the same reason I love big band music of the 40s.
They both were repetitive up-tempo dance music made to help you forget your troubles and dance.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 27, 2020 12:02 PM |
R31 Why do you say that?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 27, 2020 12:03 PM |
Who is Donna Summer? She is pretty, isn't she?
Was Donna Summer popular? Why is her name Summer? Did the gays like Donna Summer? Did Donna Summer like the gays?
What the hell is a "studio version"?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 27, 2020 12:11 PM |
She hated fags.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 27, 2020 12:55 PM |

Loved disco. HiNRG was the beginning of the end of real gay dance music. The 80s were horrible for dance music. It basically died and people “danced” to new wave, soulless straight music. Only with the beginning of house music in late 80s and 90s did true gay dance music return. Reflected the culture - the 80s were violently anti-gay.
