Pretty, but his acting was amateurish at best. There are moments in this movie where he delivers his lines like he just memorized them an hour beforehand. And you can see him waiting for cues before delivering lines or walking into a scene.

His acting was pretty amateurish in that movie, but it was his first after a quick cameo in Since You Went Away. Presumably he became at least competent the more he worked.

No one hired Guy Madison for his acting skills. He was always highly competent at being pretty and photographing extremely well. That's why they hired Guy and he always delivered it for them. 'Photogenic' is a talent held in high regard in Hollywood.
