How is to live in Biloxi?

My husband is going to be transferred to Keesler Air Force Base and I am a bit scared to move to a southern city. We are both gays.

It's in Mississippi.

Is there really anything else that needs to be said?

We are not originally from US, so please, yes, tell me everything I need to know.

You’d be close to New Orleans

How do you feel about deep-fried possum, OP?

You aren't moving to a "southern city". Nashville, Charlotte, New Orleans and Atlanta are examples of southern cities.

Mississippi is Deep South and a very poor rural state. The poorest state in fact.

The poorest state that comes in LAST in education. And they're proud of being last

I would live across Biloxi Bay in the quaint little town of Ocean Springs. You will be fine, by the way

well, its a casino town. 20 years ago, we went there for a weekend getaway, IIRC, nothing "bad" happened. But I only stayed for one night, so can't really say much about the everyday life there.

Get a gun and learn how to use it. I'm serious.

I lived in Tennessee in the 90s as a trans woman of color (I'm back to being a dude now, didn't really get the change or implants just wore makeup and was on hormones)

I never had to shoot anybody but when the townfolk decided they were going to fuck with me the realized I had a piece and backed off.

Somehow this thread got double posted. I posted this in the other thread. I've been to the casinos in Biloxi, and it is a pretty area. They have a handful of gay bars. And if Grindr and Scruff are any guide you will be fine there. They appear to have an active local gay community. I've also been to the base, the PX and Commissary are very nice and located in one connected indoor mall. In addition, unlike most areas, the base is practically right in town. The beach and casinos are less than a ten-minute walk. The best part, New Orleans is only an hour and half away.
