Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande Premiere New Video for "Rain On Me"

Is Madonna going to be okay with Gaga having a song with the word rain in the title?

They're both such empowered, liberated women. So inspiring. Selfless, too.

by Anonymousreply 1May 22, 2020 6:46 PM

Did they just stick two yowling cats in a bag to record those vocals?

by Anonymousreply 2May 22, 2020 7:05 PM

Wow that was unlistenable.

by Anonymousreply 3May 22, 2020 7:11 PM

I actually like it!

by Anonymousreply 4May 22, 2020 7:53 PM

The song is very...underwhelming but the video has such great visuals

by Anonymousreply 5May 22, 2020 8:01 PM

Call Deckard -- we found the two remaining replicants!

by Anonymousreply 6May 22, 2020 8:03 PM

They are like little girl toys. Unicorns & ponies in heliotrope & raffia.

by Anonymousreply 7May 22, 2020 8:37 PM

Already a hit across the board. Critically acclaimed, even by the most pretentious music critics.

Meanwhile, Madonna is being called a racist over supporting Lana Del Rey in her latest scandal. Madonna's n bomb and hatred of black men being brought up all over the place.

Gaga's success will have her making a call to her plastic surgeon's office for more alterations and she'll probably release a sex tape with that boyfriend she's paying for.

by Anonymousreply 8May 22, 2020 11:15 PM

Why did she have to collaborate with Ariana Grande! Why? šŸ˜°šŸ¤®

by Anonymousreply 9May 22, 2020 11:18 PM

Please post said acclaim

by Anonymousreply 10May 22, 2020 11:19 PM

Wow, pretentious much?

by Anonymousreply 11May 22, 2020 11:23 PM

I like it. Not sure why OP and R8 are trying to bring Madonna in to it. Besides, Gaga is clearly inspired by Madonna. Iā€™m surprised Gaga hasnā€™t had as many hits as Madonna, especially considering she has more natural musical talent.

To me, Grande is this generationā€™s Mariah Carey. Great voice but mostly boring songs.

by Anonymousreply 15May 22, 2020 11:27 PM

I feel like I've already heard this song a hundred times before.

by Anonymousreply 16May 22, 2020 11:45 PM

C'mon, the whole thing is an exercise in overt lesbianism!

by Anonymousreply 17May 22, 2020 11:59 PM

[quote] Is Madonna going to be okay with Gaga having a song with the word rain in the title?

You mean because she is the only person ever to use the word "rain" in the title of a song?

by Anonymousreply 18May 23, 2020 12:12 AM

That was a fairly paint-by-numbers song.

It felt like a generic song theyā€™d play during an aerobics class

by Anonymousreply 19May 23, 2020 12:31 AM

Catchy. I'm a really old fart with elite, overbearing musical tastes... but fuck y'all, it was catchy.

by Anonymousreply 20May 23, 2020 12:43 AM

Cheap sex sells

by Anonymousreply 21May 23, 2020 12:46 AM

Meh šŸ˜

by Anonymousreply 22May 23, 2020 2:01 AM

The song is short on lyrics.

by Anonymousreply 23May 23, 2020 2:06 AM

The song is a grower, but that video is instantly powerful. I love when two pop divas come together. But I wonder if it's too gay for the GP.

by Anonymousreply 24May 23, 2020 2:07 AM

This is so bland and forgettable. Gaga has lost her spark.

by Anonymousreply 25May 23, 2020 2:12 AM

I'm sick of backup dancers and choreographed routines. It's beyond tired.

by Anonymousreply 26May 23, 2020 2:12 AM

I'm sick of the "look at my crotch!" costumes.

by Anonymousreply 27May 23, 2020 2:16 AM

While I don't despise it, the music production sounds very 2005. The video is cosplay outta Comic-Con.

by Anonymousreply 28May 23, 2020 2:34 AM

R28 I was getting ready to type this has 2005 written all over it!

by Anonymousreply 29May 23, 2020 2:39 AM

Not sure why Madonna would care. Her "Rain" is superior by far and sounds more modern than this crap. And she looks gorgeous in the video. Pity what's become of her.

by Anonymousreply 30May 23, 2020 2:42 AM

You all haven't lived long enough... a style15 years ago, revived now, is called "retro"...

Yep, it's retro music...

I remember I had a moment of clarity, when about 8 years ago there was all this "alt rock" stuff that sounded like the early 90s. I thought how out of date. Someone pointed out to me that music is always cyclical... and that the kids making that music in 201 2 were in diapers the first time. Grande was a baby in 2005... retro to her, not "out of date."

by Anonymousreply 32May 23, 2020 2:43 AM

I wonder if Kaskade produced this, it sounds like it.

by Anonymousreply 33May 23, 2020 2:46 AM

Why didnt lana delrey patron saint of fragile delicate suburban victimized girls bitch on gaga though?

Ariana still needs to learn to enunciate.

They look italian

by Anonymousreply 34May 23, 2020 2:52 AM

The one silver lining of the Covid-19 pandemic is that we won't have to spend the summer of 2020 hearing this horror blare out of every gay club on the strip.

by Anonymousreply 35May 23, 2020 2:54 AM

Gaga is a really homely woman.

by Anonymousreply 36May 23, 2020 2:57 AM

Iā€™m old enough to remember when Gaga and her music were fresh and fun. This isnā€™t catchy. This is overproduced crap.

by Anonymousreply 37May 23, 2020 2:58 AM

Reductive

by Anonymousreply 38May 23, 2020 2:59 AM

Gaga fizzled out early. She was great in the beginning, but then just seemed to lose the plot.

by Anonymousreply 39May 23, 2020 3:00 AM

R9, Ariana Grande is the a way for her to connect with a younger audience that does not tive a tuxk about Lady Gaga. Ariana is the queen of the tik tok generation

Ariana is being used and should tell Gaga to fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 40May 23, 2020 3:01 AM

R40 do the kids really not know Gaga? Sure, sheā€™s a bit older but sheā€™s been reasonably relevant.

by Anonymousreply 41May 23, 2020 3:05 AM

R41, Other than Shallow, her hits are several years ago.

by Anonymousreply 42May 23, 2020 3:07 AM

I'm tired of Gaga doing the same old thing. It's like she's only going for the top-40 dance pop thing. This caterwauling is going to be played as the bumper music on every frau-watching morning show, it will be featured at every Karen-dominated Spin class and of course, very young, small city gays will see it as a club hit. But it just sounds like everything else she does. And she can do so, so much better, It's time she tries something new.

by Anonymousreply 43May 23, 2020 3:17 AM

Thatā€™s just not very good

by Anonymousreply 44May 23, 2020 3:31 AM

Flavor of the moment. Itā€™s ok, not good not bad, just ok. Itā€™s just another example of fast food product, cheap and forgettable.

by Anonymousreply 45May 23, 2020 3:33 AM

Ariana Grande's songs all sound the same to me. She looks like a Miami pole dancer.

by Anonymousreply 46May 23, 2020 3:52 AM

Gaga keeps making the same video over and over again. All she does is put on new costumes. It's always her and a troop of dancers. I thought she was supposed to be more creative than this.

by Anonymousreply 47May 23, 2020 5:23 AM

Still waiting on links to the critical acclaim from the most pretentious music critics for this caterwauling mess.

by Anonymousreply 48May 23, 2020 5:37 AM

R48 Pitchfork doesn't give good reviews much.

by Anonymousreply 49May 23, 2020 5:42 AM

Totally generic but it works, unlike Gaga's comeback single. I won't buy or download this but I won't change the station if it's on. It's a bit perplexing why Gaga took a huge step back in her music with this new material. I mean both of these new singles are super generic next to Bad Romance and such. The video is ok, although for some reason it's once again all about a group of people power-dancing, like the previous video. I've never really been a Gaga fan and I usually hated her Little Monster bullies but nevertheless she did have nice creativity that is mostly missing now.

by Anonymousreply 50May 23, 2020 5:53 AM

R42 "Applause," "Do What U Want," "Million Reasons," "Shallow," and "Always Remember Us This Way" have all been sizable hits in the last 6 years. She's hardly a consistent hitmaker anymore but young people know and like her, especially after the ASIB soundtrack.

by Anonymousreply 51May 23, 2020 6:07 AM

The kids know Gaga and her songs from just 10 years ago that still get played on playlists and radio -_-

You are speaking of her like it was 30 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 52May 23, 2020 6:14 AM

There are certain stars that are so high profiled that even if they no longer make hits, young people know them. Lady Gaga is an example of that, along with Britney Spears and boy bands of yesteryear.

And every young person knows Poker Face and Bad Romance etc., songs that still get played all the time everywhere.

Idk why you people listen to people like that. That is the same person that claims young people do not know who J Lo, Brad Pitt or Leo DiCaprio are. That is some of the biggest nonsense ever.

by Anonymousreply 53May 23, 2020 6:17 AM

Don't tell me she's knocking off Peter Gabriel now

[quote] The kids know Gaga and her songs from just 10 years ago that still get played on playlists and radio -_-

Do you remember when you were 12 how ANCIENT singers over 30 felt? Or how songs that were 10 years old were from a totally different era that had happened a long loooong time ago? Obviously Gaga is still relevant in many ways but she's probably not exactly a fresh and new thing for the kids.

by Anonymousreply 55May 23, 2020 6:39 AM

When I was a kid in the 80s, music from the 60s sounded so OLD to me. It might as well have been Al Jolson or Rudy Vallee.

When I got older, however, I learned to appreciate all the great music from that decade.

by Anonymousreply 56May 23, 2020 6:41 AM

That doesn't change the fact that Gaga has songs from 10 years ago still played on airwaves today. ......

by Anonymousreply 57May 23, 2020 6:42 AM

r56 music from 2010 doesn't sound SOOOOO old in 2020. It sounds mostly the same. If anything, better.

by Anonymousreply 58May 23, 2020 6:43 AM

Rain On Me? Is this a song about Kim Kardashian getting peed on?

by Anonymousreply 59May 23, 2020 6:55 AM

r58 not always.

by Anonymousreply 60May 23, 2020 7:07 AM

r60 what is being played now that couldn't have been played 10 years ago? Please tell me how the sound has changed... it hasn't.10 years ago it was Nicki Minaj and now it is Cardi B. The music is the same, the artists are what is different

by Anonymousreply 61May 23, 2020 7:09 AM

r61 you don't know kids. Even something from 10 years ago can be "old" to them.

by Anonymousreply 62May 23, 2020 7:22 AM

I think minimally talented Katy Perry's new single "Daisies" is much better than this shit.

by Anonymousreply 63May 23, 2020 7:56 AM

That was a solid Meh. Getting tired of watching girl singers with the solid Gold Pole Dancers in every video

by Anonymousreply 64May 23, 2020 11:03 AM

I really enjoyed it, it's a catchy pop tune, nothing wrong with that.

by Anonymousreply 65May 23, 2020 2:39 PM

r64 it's beyond tired. It's been going on for so many years, the music industry needs a reboot. Shit is just so unoriginal and has been done 1000 times already.

by Anonymousreply 66May 23, 2020 3:07 PM

I agree R66. Overall music is tired and done. Nothing new. Rarely anything enjoyable anymore, pleasing to hear. It's all been done. Any the "good" singers, suck. "Good" is not screaming, hollering, and oversinging. Gaga screams and hollers, along with Lambert. Ariana is a one trick pony. BeyoncƩ is way overhyped. Perry must suck good dick, because there's nothing there. Aguilara is good but over does it. Anyone newer is forgettable, over produced, and too autotuned. Too much electronics and technology in music now. It doesn't sound authentic, warm, or meaningful. No of it feels clever or thought out. It's actually just jumbled noise with someone hollering on top of it to me.

by Anonymousreply 67May 23, 2020 5:45 PM

I'm not even that old, but most music today sounds the same. Same beats, same production values, the singers all sound the same esp. the girls. Everybody is autotuned and it's extremely obvious. It's like music today comes off an assembly line. Singers used to have distinctive voices, you knew immediately who was singing the song from the first three words.

And I am SO fucking sick of backup dancers and choreographed routines. Christ, that's just been run into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 68May 23, 2020 6:23 PM

The video is embarrassingly old-style (2010), overdone in comparison to the song. The overdressed dancing 'squad' style is passƩ. Grande warbles like a cat on autotune. A simple duet with the two singers in the rain would have been better. C-

by Anonymousreply 69May 23, 2020 6:54 PM

It's very average but at least Gaga is always game. She actually looks great for once haha. Grande seems to play the game very well but needs to cool it on the surgery. The gayest thing I've seen in a awhile honestly.

by Anonymousreply 70May 23, 2020 9:40 PM

27 million views in 1 day. Madonna is about to kill all of her staff and then herself.

by Anonymousreply 71May 23, 2020 11:50 PM

This song is perfect for the moment as others have said because it represents that mindless dance music that define every summer. Since we don't know what our summers will look like, this is basically escapism. The song grew on me after a few TikTok vids, I guess I'm very susceptible to trends. After a night of giving this song a chance, I can't wait for the opportunity to join my fellow gays in a club again and dance my heart out. Structurally, the hook is good.

by Anonymousreply 72May 24, 2020 7:36 AM

Meh. There's no single element of fun in the song or the video to make it a summer "jam." It's overwrought and over-produced. GaGa is hell-bent to make sure everyone knows that she is an ARTISTE.

by Anonymousreply 73May 24, 2020 2:09 PM

[R73] I agree. It's derivative and joyless like the rest of Gaga's catalog. The done-to-death post-apocalyptic imagery is hardly the stuff of "summer fun." Can't these people just go away? They give no pleasure to anyone - they just need to be looked at.

by Anonymousreply 80May 24, 2020 6:49 PM

Ariana sounds great on this track. She kind of overshadows Gaga, who I like way more.

by Anonymousreply 81May 24, 2020 6:50 PM

Gaga has a knack for tapping into what the public wants.

by Anonymousreply 82May 24, 2020 7:37 PM

I think the song is full of joy. Gaga's first two albums were fun pop creations. The third album is when she started drinking her own hype and stopped working with Dark Child. This is a return to form for Gaga. Can we give credit to Arianna's team, they are not playing around. First a duet with Justin Bieber about staying inside then this well timed release with Lady Gaga. Arinna doesn't even have an album out and she's keeping pace with Dua and Camila Cabello. I'm really warming to Arianna and remember the fun of Lady Gaga in the late 2000s.

by Anonymousreply 83May 24, 2020 8:21 PM

Pitchfork has been licking Arianaā€™s donut for years, R49.

And that article was written by someone named Quinn.

I still like the song, though.

#1 on every platform worldwide. Already making history.

by Anonymousreply 86May 24, 2020 9:32 PM

R85 = Madonna with her fake fat drunk ass.

by Anonymousreply 87May 24, 2020 9:32 PM

I'm just happy to finally see Ariana with her hair down! Although, the song and video are tired. I think it's #1 for the same reason people slow down to look at a car wreck. Let's see a week from now.

by Anonymousreply 88May 25, 2020 3:03 AM

....and they want to see who's she's copying this time...

by Anonymousreply 89May 25, 2020 3:04 AM

It's honestly one of the best things Gaga has put out in the last six or seven years. I remember really liking Gaga in 2008 before most people knew of her and she was mainly popular in Canada. The Fame was no sure fire success for her because the label did almost no promo when Just Dance first came out. It took nine months to go #1 and was almost certain to be a flop at first, if not for her pounding the pavement and really hustling. From 2009-2011, she was the biggest star in the music industry, but Adele's mega success and her Michael Jackson like repetitiveness from ArtPop on sort of did her career in. I thought A Star Is Born was a piece of crap and her duets with Tony Bennet were kinda meh. I was ready to write this album off too, seeing how much like her old stuff it was, but this single may save her career and give her a comeback. If she debuts at #1 when this album comes out, she should kiss Ariana Grande's ass big time. Ari literally saved Gaga from becoming completely irrelevant like her peer Katy Perry.

Poor Lady gagz can't catch a hit without hitching her wagon to others way more popular than her. This song had SEVEN writers! Bwhahahahahahaha

Of course she goes for Ari. Ari has the #1 song. Lady Too Much Plastic Surgery isn't relevant without clinging desperately to others. Her solo singles flop. What is she wearing for her age?

by Anonymousreply 102May 27, 2020 2:54 AM

R99/101: thanks for posting!

by Anonymousreply 103May 27, 2020 4:22 AM

Seven songwriters plus four producers are what it took to make this song. WHAT!?

by Anonymousreply 104May 27, 2020 5:53 PM

Boring

by Anonymousreply 105May 27, 2020 6:12 PM

I really like Artpop. I have been listening to the album today and itā€™s catchy. I hope itā€™s a hit as I like Gaga really.

by Anonymousreply 106May 29, 2020 5:17 PM

I thought Gaga said that she wrote the song in the studio. So what part did she write? I don't care if pop stars don't write their own music because they are just the voice and face of a fake industry. I do mind when people try to stars act as if they are songwriters after working with a writing crew that could rival SNL's writing team?

by Anonymousreply 107May 29, 2020 5:53 PM

This song doesn't even sound like something she wrote. I just listened to the whole song--there is barely any singing on it. And the song is barely 3 minutes long. The song could have just included the chorus since most of the lyrics are just pure nonsense. Again--what about this song took seven songwriters and four producers to make?! Madonna has always been desperate and hungry for fame, but it wasn't until 2003 that was she started releasing duets as desperately mediocre as this ("Me Against the Music").

by Anonymousreply 108May 29, 2020 8:31 PM

R108, thatā€™s because Madonna had a longer run of hits. Then she started with the duets with hot stars. The worst is Elton John, heā€™s always doing it.

by Anonymousreply 109May 29, 2020 9:13 PM

R109, I know. Lady Gaga is more desperate because she knows her post Born This Way success has been hit-or-miss at best.

by Anonymousreply 110May 29, 2020 9:18 PM

The album is very meh and Iā€™m a fan of all her previous work. It sounds like it was put together by a focus group. The worst thing is that after listening to it a few times, I can only remember the two singles and the track ā€˜Babylonā€™. I couldnā€™t tell you a lyric or hum a melody from any of the other tracks. Very forgettable. Iā€™ll go and listen to Born This Way or ARTPOP instead. They still sound good today.

by Anonymousreply 111May 30, 2020 8:14 AM

I've lost all respect for The Weather Channel for promoting this shit. Typical of Byron Allen's idiocy.

by Anonymousreply 112May 30, 2020 2:45 PM

I take it back, I've listened to the album a lot now and Iit's really grown on me. Still don't think it's as good as Born This Way or ARTPOP. I'm still listening to it regularly wihout getting sick of it. I'd love to hear it in a club (I'm not an eldergay but getting there). I love the new lyric video for Sour Candy too. It's clever.
