Bourdain did not call a Canadian suicide hotline from a French hotel room before he killed himself. He's not even Canadian. You just wanted to introduce us to your angry vegan meninist youtube philosopher and I'm having none of it.

Listening to this guy's voice makes me want to commit suicide.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 8, 2020 2:03 AM |
I guess Eisel Mazard had no reservations telling Mr. Bourdain what he thought.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 8, 2020 2:03 AM |
He doesn't say when Bourdain called, so it may have been months before he actually killed himself.

What a piece of self-righteous garbage.
I'm sure everyone contemplating suicide who calls a hotline is looking for the person on the other end to judge him and decide whether his problems are a big deal or not.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 8, 2020 2:19 AM |
What's the point of a suicide hotline? By the time it's gotten that fucking bad why on earth would talking to some stranger help ?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 8, 2020 2:32 AM |
R10, Bourdain called and announced who he was to Mazard who was volunteering at the hotline. Mazard is vegan so right off the bat he decided that Bourdain is an asshole because he'll eat anything. I guess some vegans maintain an enemies list. Mazard also dismisses Bourdain's complaints because Mazard has pegged Bourdain as a privileged asshole who lives a life of constant vacations (travel and 3 course meals) and couldn't possibly have "real" problems. Apparently this attitude seeps through in their conversation because it ends with both sides trading insults.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 8, 2020 2:36 AM |
This is probably a true story. Many of the suicide and mental health hotlines are not staffed by professionals, nor have any oversight. Many of the community mental health services are complete Fraud. Be sure to steer clear of any organization that is operated by religious groups, faith based funding.
If you or a love one is experiencing suicide or mental health symptoms, it is better to take them to the best medical/university hospital in your state. That ER would be a trauma center and funded by the state and federal government. Demand to be admitted.
Also know that often times, what appears as mental health symptoms to a lay person is a serious medical condition. Do not interfere with ER doctors and medical specialists running crucial life saving medical tests, ( heart lungs brain vital organs). Also, medications have side effects too. Medical doctors at hospitals need the time to review all medications for possible side effects. with patients. This is way we want to admit patients.
Do not let Criminal Corrupt Morons from saving your life, or the life of your love one!!!!!

This guy is not only a piece of shit for not trying to help someone who was in distress - REGARDLESS of their income/status - but the fact that he feels the need to blurb the deceased person's personal problems is really diving into the gutter.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 8, 2020 2:47 AM |
Not that this guy is a professional, but... I’m sorry to say that the mental health profession is chock full of sick people. I have a lifelong acquaintance (she’s not a friend because I keep her at arms like length) whose father was an esteemed psychiatrist. Her mother was a LCSW. This woman was (and is) incredibly fucked up by her parents. I saw all kinds of dysfunction in her family, it shocked me.
Dealing with the profession, on behalf of a loved on has been a total nightmare. There have been some grounded, compassionate people, but I’ve encountered some really unbalanced people who have licenses and degrees and access to other sick people who don’t.
I’m no paragon of perfect mental health, but holy hell.

by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 8, 2020 3:46 AM |
Wait. People actually believe this? Would Anthony Bourdain, who was quite wealthy and connected, resort to a suicide hotline? Would he announce himself? If this guy actually contributed to his suicide, would he really tell about it, and title the video "I killed Anthony Bourdain?"
It doesn't ring true.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 8, 2020 4:03 AM |
Don't forget, Bourdain was an admitted drug addict and alcohol abuser for many years, so why shouldn't he avail himself of a call to a suicide hotline?

I'm not sure what OP was hoping to accomplish by posting this video, which is over 2 years old but until now, barely got any views.
Whatever reservations I had about Bourdain, I dislike bullies and sadists more. So I reported this as offensive content to YouTube and told them they should take the video down.
If you agree at all, I encourage you to do the same. Why celebrate bad behavior?

I spent a long time with Anthony Bourdain. He was nothing like his public persona. He could switch it on and off as soon as he made a public appearance. He was very morose and depressed when not in public.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 8, 2020 5:21 AM |
As a health care provider, this individual is sick . First, to break confidentiality about a patient, non the less a person who has committed suicide, is unethical. Second, as a provider, I do not judge a patient's personal opinions or actions. I take an oath to provide care. I would recommend that an investigation of these accusations take place. If it did occur as he states, then I would recommend prosecution of the person and action be taken against the organization.
Let's turn the table. Suppose a homophobic health care provider was treating a gay patient in the ED and you had just been diagnosed with HIV. If this provider would state that gays deserve "it" and then states that recommending you for further treatment is against their religious belief. What would you say? Do I need to be clearer in my disgust of this individual?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 8, 2020 5:46 AM |

Some naive people on this thread. This douche says on his description: satire is not comedy. First, it is. Second, this video isn't funny. That said, why wouldn't a person in despair call a hotline just because he has money? What kind of reasoning is that?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 8, 2020 8:15 AM |
Every person I've known who had a parent who was a psychiatrist was massively screwed up.
But, by far, the absolutely most screwed up of them all were the kids of child psychologists.

[quote] Mazard is vegan so right off the bat he decided that Bourdain is an asshole because he'll eat anything.
Not quite. He recalled Bourdain saying on his show a few times that vegans and vegetarians should just kill themselves, and found it ironic that Bourdain himself was now suicidal.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 8, 2020 3:51 PM |
[quote] I'm not sure what OP was hoping to accomplish by posting this video, which is over 2 years old but until now, barely got any views.
Pointless bitchery!
But really, BECAUSE this thing was posted two years ago right after Bourdain died and barely had any views.
I couldn't find any blog opinions or outraged viral tweeting about it. I'm just surprised nobody caught this at the time.
And since he turned off the YouTube comments, I was wondering what people would say after seeing this.
I guess I should've known some posters would get hung up on Mazard being vegan and think I'm promoting a VEGAN AGENDA, or even Mazard himself, by posting this (r1). But I didn't feel like bogging down my OP with a bunch of tedious, qualifying statements.
I'm just intrigued by the idea that Bourdain would call a suicide hotline and be told off like this, and that the person who did so is talking about it with so little concern for NDA issues.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 8, 2020 11:39 PM |
Bourdain was cuckolded (by that tramp) and that pushed him over the edge.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 9, 2020 12:33 AM |
If that vegan asshole really did tell off a suicidal caller for being pro-meat, then that suicide hotline was being totally negligent in letting that self-righteous asshole answer the phone.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 9, 2020 1:54 AM |
^ It was for being priviledged and self-indulgent, not being "pro meat."
I think Mazard, in his aggressive asshole way, was trying to make Bourdain see how privilidged he was and what a joke it seemed that he was suicidal, but being untrained and not very compassionate, just ended up pissing Bourdain off.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 9, 2020 2:06 AM |
"...was trying to make Bourdain see how privilidged he was and what a joke it seemed that he was suicidal..."
If that's the case, then yeah, the suicide hotline was negligent in letting this untrained, clueless, fumbling, asshole anywhere near their phones. Because really, they shouldn't anyone on the phone who doesn't understand that major depression can hit the rich as well as the poor, that other people may get suicidal over problems he doesn't think of as serious, that other people are different than himself, and that he isn't the center of the fucking world.
What good does reminding someone that they're well off do, if they're feeling suicidal? They know they're well off, and unlike Mr. Vegan-Asshole, they also know that money in the bank doesn't make severe depression go away.

Bourdain was a sad person and his girlfriend was the last straw in his pain. Kate Spade’s death was such a shock that it gave Anthony license to kill himself. She was successful and famous just like he was and it gave him relief to know that there was someone like him In pain, too. Her doing it first took a little of the stigma away, lessened his guilt, and gave him the strength to go through with it.

I watched some of Eiezel's other vids, and he is a pretentious self-proclaimed "intellectual" of the macho in-your-face variety, but I have the feeling this Bourdain thing really happened and he's purposefully being vague on the date.

I always tell people if you know someone who is having a hard time just be there for them. Sometimes they need a distraction and won't always talk about themselves. Don't tell them to call a fucking 1-800 number.

[quote] anyone who has been to college knows that the most fucked up people are the ones majoring in psychology.
Nope. It’s the dumbest people. Like 2.0 GPA students. In fact, I knew one who couldn’t even get a 2.0 so instead of a BA in psych he got a BA in nothing. I didn’t even know they actually gave out degrees without a major, but they do. When you’re too dumb to get a 2.0, they still give you a degree.
But really — every uncreative, basement dwelling, immature, lazy kid who goes to commuter college because s/he can’t live without mom & dad to cook, clean and do laundry for them gets a BA in psychology.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 24, 2020 12:42 AM |

This is a lot more common than you'd think. Mental illness/addiction services have been amalgamated in many areas. That's led to extremist activists who are either radical socialists or Christians who have class biases, & agendas they use their positions to get funding for, like zero barrier housing, free drug supplies & religious based rehab. Experienced psychiatrists & nurses will not work in these places b/c they are not safe, as the activists are zero barrier harm reduction advocates who excuse abusive behaviour, & won't kick anyone out of programs/service access.
One man actually died here (Canada) when one of these fucking assholes bullied him out of his psych bed when he was suicidal. He was told he didn't need to be there because he was middle class with a family, so he had somewhere to go. (IIRC his family checked him in because they were afraid he was at grave risk of suicide.) He was told the homeless meth addict needed the bed more than him. He checked himself out & committed suicide.

Eisel Mazard is apparently a big deal in vegan circles online, and I'm starting to question whether this happened or whether it's Mazard concocting a story to go viral.
People have said on Reddit that he has harassed them online with various usernames, here's one of the posts about it.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 25, 2020 7:47 AM |
Ah, I knew he sounded familiar: Mazard also has been part of the online Buddhist community for years, trolling and harassing people there, too. He was on the LiveJournal community and would post rotten things like "faggots can't be Buddhists," and all the little pushover idiots on the group would say they couldn't moderate his posts because "he's teaching us acceptance."
There is almost zero chance his story about Bourdain is true.
In the future I REALLY recommend people look up just WHO is telling the story first, before you say it sounds plausible. This isn't plausible once you realize Mazard has been trolling online for a decade or longer.
