Chilling naked on the couch with a cup of coffee. There is a box of Kleenex and a container of antibacterial wipes at my feet. A yoga mat, a cat rest nearby. My laptop is playing a mood mix on Spotify. It is gloomy outside and about to rain. I'm slowly making some food.
What are you doing this very minute?

Sitting on a large covered front porch on top of a hill on twelve acres in a small town in Texas Hill Country, drinking coffee with two black labs at feet. Thinking of having pimiento cheese sandwich for lunch. Nice breeze.

Laying on the couch with a cat stretched out on me, watching The Office. Waiting for two pounds of ground beef to defrost and then will make a pot of chili and meatballs. My days revolve around food. I’ve already been for an hour-long walk. If it’s not raining later will go for another.
Perfectly happy and content.

I'll be the skeleton at the feast. I'm sitting here trying not to cry because I just got back from having our black cat euthanized. He had a serious heart problem, and developed a blood clot on the lower spine, which paralyzed his back legs. He was also in extreme pain. It's called saddle thrombus. He cried all the way to the clinic. He was ten years old and we had no idea that his heart was starting to fail. My heart is torn apart.

Off to do the kitchen now.

by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 30, 2020 11:28 PM |
I condole you MissLucy. Were you able to be with your cat for the procedure? I posted on another thread that my cat is dying of cancer and I am trying to keep her comfortable until I can put her down properly. I have been dropping her at the vet every 7 - 10 days for a steroid shot and IV fluids. I would have put her down two weeks ago but I wouldn’t be allowed to be there and hold her.
The treatments are working but I know she is on borrowed time. She is still eating well and getting around but it breaks my heart that it is time and I can’t do it right now. Of course if she takes a bad turn I will do it. I am just hoping she can hang on to see another spring or maybe even summer, and that she can die in my arms when it is time. I hope you were able to be there with your kitty. In any case, you gave her a beautiful life and did right by her at the end.

R68 I wasn't able to be there. I passed the carrier over to the doctor at the door and described what had happened, but due to the virus, civilians aren't allowed in. However, my partner works at that clinic, so he was able to be with Zeke. I feel completely wiped out, and I think I'm going to feel like that for a while. Best wishes to you and your precious cat, and thank you.

Back from a three hour, three-store food shopping trip with enough to cover us for the next week or ten days. North of Boston there don’t seem to be many shortages. The only thing on my list I couldn’t find was lactose-free half and half. That’s not always in stock at Market Basket anyway, but they had toilet paper and paper towels. I didn’t need any, but they were down to just a couple of packs of the Clorox wipes. Otherwise the shelves were full, the tape marks on the floor were being used, and people were distancing themselves from one another.
Likewise Wilson Farms in Lexington and Russo’s in Watertown, two greengrocers that have grown from farmstands to full food stores. Russo’s is a restaurant supplier, so they have almost everything they usually do (crappy avocados but they were three for $2.00) and bigger than usual bags of oranges for juice. Wilson Farms had as much or more than they usually do, stocked with stuff for Easter and Passover, so the places here, at least the ones I go to, all seem back to almost normal.
