Biden reportedly says Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto is in his 'top three' picks for VP

While reportedly setting up video equipment in Delaware over four days, former Vice President Joe Biden was apparently mulling over possible running mates.

Biden told former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) is one of his "top three" choices should he win the Democratic presidential nomination, Mediaite reported Thursday.

Reid, who was also a longtime senator representing Nevada, is reportedly nudging Biden toward choosing Cortez Masto as his VP, and Biden's campaign apparently feels she would be a strong choice and could help expand Biden's popularity among Latinx voters. Biden publicly committed to choosing a woman as his vice president if nominated over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), sparking endless speculation over who that woman might be. CNBC says Biden's "business allies" are hoping for Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) or Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), two former presidential candidates themselves. The Washington Post, meanwhile, said Biden's shortlist probably included Cortez Masto, but also named more well-known Democrats like former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. Biden's campaign declined to dispute Mediaite's reporting, simply saying he would vigorously vet candidates.

New York magazine wrote that Biden is spending his "coronavirus bunker" time "thinking a lot" about a potential VP, and taking lots of calls from supporters and Democratic strategists who are pushing Biden to pick their candidate of choice. None of those calls, however, resulted in much reported information on whether Biden had narrowed his list.

Biden told The View on Tuesday his "short" list was between "12 and 15" names, but if his reported statement to Reid is to be believed, he's done a lot of whittling in the past few days. Read more at Mediaite and New York.

Who?

by Anonymousreply 1March 27, 2020 8:29 AM

If he was smart, he would choose Cuomo as his running mate.

It would be a slam dunk.

Unfortunately, I don't think that Biden is that smart.

He's trying too hard to pander.

That's not what we need right now.

by Anonymousreply 2March 27, 2020 8:35 AM

Biden is going to win Delaware and now he'll also be able to carry Nevada.

by Anonymousreply 3March 27, 2020 8:37 AM

R2 is correct.

It pisses me off that people like this nearly unknown senator are in the running when former candidates with large national support are not. Might as well choose Tim Kaine again.

by Anonymousreply 4March 27, 2020 8:40 AM

Such a sad pathetic state of affairs. I want Cuomo/Newsom 2020.

Hang it up Joe.

by Anonymousreply 5March 27, 2020 8:40 AM

Biden does not need to pick a Latino/Latina, an African American, or a female.

He will already HAVE their vote.

Why is he not understanding this?

What he needs is the INDEPENDENT VOTER. He needs to pick a white male from the Midwest, if he wants to win back Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, Florida, and Wisconsin.

Tim Ryan from Ohio, or Conor Lamb from PA would be great picks. Cuomo would also do the trick.

Someone needs to talk some sense into him!

by Anonymousreply 6March 27, 2020 8:45 AM

R2 has posted what I came to post.

by Anonymousreply 7March 27, 2020 8:54 AM

Biden is a white establishment white guy, he already has the Midwest voter. He's the working mans candidate remember? Very pro union. And he already has the black vote in his pocket. Actually what he needs is someone from the far left to bring that group more towards the center. You know, all those pissed of Bernie Bros and Millennials. I don't know if it needs to be a black or Hispanic woman specifically, but he dose need someone more ideologically left that he is.

by Anonymousreply 8March 27, 2020 9:39 AM

Biden has dementia, soon he will not be able to hide it.

by Anonymousreply 9March 27, 2020 9:49 AM

Cuomo is a great leader but do we really want him out campaigning when he's needed in New York? That could backfire spectacularly on several levels.

by Anonymousreply 10March 27, 2020 9:50 AM

If he is going to pic a woman, I would rather it be Warren. She's more progressive somewhere between Bernie and Biden and she dose get shit done. I know she was a Repug in her former life, but if you look at her record, she has been very pro Democrat since she switched and very ant-corruption from the big corporations while still maintaining she is a capitalist. She has a lot of appeal with woman, and a lot with progressives without being too scary to the center who are afraid of the S word.

by Anonymousreply 11March 27, 2020 9:52 AM

If he doesn't pick a woman of color he is toast. The black community will see it as a huge betrayal.

by Anonymousreply 12March 27, 2020 10:07 AM

[quote] If he doesn't pick a woman of color he is toast. The black community will see it as a huge betrayal.

Wrong. He needs to pick a young, white guy from the Midwest or Northeast.

He can win first, and then deal with the bitching later.

If he picks a female minority as his running mate, he will lose. Period.

by Anonymousreply 13March 27, 2020 10:11 AM

Biden does not have any excitement here in the Midwest. He is establishment and certainly not for the working man. He will not beat Trump here.

by Anonymousreply 14March 27, 2020 10:21 AM

No one has even heard of Catherine Cortez Masto.

She would get zero traction with voters.

by Anonymousreply 15March 27, 2020 10:38 AM

He dose not need a black woman, the black vote has already spoken before he said who his running mate would be. If they don't like that they can go vote for Trump and see where that gets them. He's done enough black butt kissing. There are OTHER groups of people that need schmoozing you nitwit. Cant be all black all the time. You had that with Obama, now sit down, shut up and hang on.

by Anonymousreply 16March 27, 2020 10:52 AM

R13, you must not know many black folk. Sure, plenty will vote for him, regardless who he chooses for VP.

But there are a lot of people, especially black women, who say he won SC because he dangled the promise of a black female running mate, and if he pulls that bait and switch, they will not turn out for him. Many of them already don't trust him because of Anita Hill.

How many black women -- those who made the difference in Doug Jones' Senate win -- do you think it will take for Biden's so-called "lock" on the black vote to wash out? You say they can go vote for Trump and see where that gets them. Black folk have had so many white politicians take them for granted, many have vowed never again to vote for whichever white politician is the least bad.

by Anonymousreply 17March 27, 2020 10:57 AM

[quote]Biden does not have any excitement here in the Midwest. He is establishment and certainly not for the working man. He will not beat Trump here.

Well then they don't know the real thing when they see it. Biden has been pro Union working class for the last 30 years. He is the least wealthy person in in congress choosing the people over high paying jobs. You compare that to Trump? Billionaire who lived his whole life in a glass tower? Basically what you are saying then is people in the Midwest are stupid. The rest of the world with a elementary school reading ability can separate the facts from fictional Faux News. If "excitement" is your key to who you vote for instead of issues and ability, you get the president you deserve. A reality show grifter.

by Anonymousreply 18March 27, 2020 11:00 AM

R8 Approximately zero working class white men support Biden. At no point in time has he had significant support from white voters of any income bracket.

by Anonymousreply 19March 27, 2020 11:02 AM

He needs to look at Nan Whaley -- She stood up to Trump and is from the Midwest, his most susceptible area.

by Anonymousreply 20March 27, 2020 11:04 AM

R18 He was VP under Obama, who was not supportive toward the Rust Belt. That's what they'll judge him on, rather than Union cheerleading from 40 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 21March 27, 2020 11:05 AM

Nobody, even in the Midwest, even knows who Nan Whaley is. She will not bring any votes at all.

by Anonymousreply 22March 27, 2020 11:06 AM

[quote]Black folk have had so many white politicians take them for granted, many have vowed never again to vote for whichever white politician is the least bad.

Then they will dig their own grave by demanding so much special interest in a country where they are PART of a mixed society, not the only ones. That makes them no better than Bernie Bros who handed the election to Trump and then spend 3 years being upset with everything he dose. You don't see Asians or Mexicans or Native Americans, or Gays DEMANDING he have their perfect VP or else they are staying home do you? Sure all of them might like that, but none are threatening to not vote if they don't get their way. You need to drop the black or bust attitude. MARY!

by Anonymousreply 23March 27, 2020 11:08 AM

If he isn't shopling for a replacement, he's wasting his time. How many awkward speeches are we going to have to sit through where he can't remember who anyone is?

by Anonymousreply 24March 27, 2020 11:09 AM

And what did Trump do for the Rust Belt R21? Not how much did he spew lies there campaigning telling them what they wanted to hear, what did he actually do?

by Anonymousreply 25March 27, 2020 11:10 AM

How many awkward, uninformed and vulgar speeches have we already sat through with Trump?

by Anonymousreply 26March 27, 2020 11:12 AM

Who in the fuck is advising Biden right now?

His campaign is a fucking disaster. In fact, it has always been a disaster.

Why doesn't anyone help him???? OBAMA? DNC? Someone? ANYONE???

Biden is treading water in the middle of nowhere, and no one is throwing him a life vest.

by Anonymousreply 27March 27, 2020 11:13 AM

Funny how his "disaster" campaign as you wish it was managed to put him in a solid lead to win the presidency over 20 other candidates. And of all races, sex and ages.

Obama will come out once the DNC nomination is won. He's said that many times he didn't want to taint the process.

by Anonymousreply 28March 27, 2020 11:16 AM

R25 R26 If the kneejerk reaction pf Dems to criticism is to pivot to Trump, there's no point in running.

Trump renegogiated NAFTA and signed a new trade deal with China this year. You could say these deals are bad for white working class men/families, but you'd have to convince them you give a shit if they live or die first. Not convincing if any of them have ever read DL!

Dems need to have something to offer, concrete actions to take. What is Biden planning on DOING?

by Anonymousreply 29March 27, 2020 11:19 AM

She's impressive and she's not bad to look at. The Latinos are a huge majority.

by Anonymousreply 30March 27, 2020 11:19 AM

Try Google, R27, Biden will be on CNN tonight Town Hall on the Coronavirus.

by Anonymousreply 31March 27, 2020 11:23 AM

Biden has dementia as noted above. He is very confused when he speaks. I think he even endorsed Trump for President recently his thoughts were so jumbled. This is why we have Trump. The Democrats are fools and should be ashamed of themselves for coming up with this man as their representative. As Fran Leibowitz said not only should Biden not be president his car keys should be taken away from him. He needs a very strong vice president who most likely be president not too long after the election. The individual has to be of presidential caliber in no uncertain terms. Cuomo would be a great choice. The country needs him more than NY. And anyway in such a position he will be there for the city. And he's 62 which means he's a spring chicken next to Biden.

by Anonymousreply 32March 27, 2020 11:23 AM

[quote]Dems need to have something to offer, concrete actions to take. What is Biden planning on DOING?

Go to his website you lazy ass.

by Anonymousreply 33March 27, 2020 11:24 AM

R33 You don't know! You're presumably voting for him and you don't know!

by Anonymousreply 34March 27, 2020 11:27 AM

I've been saying that all week R32, but then you have these Democratic factions who are INSISTING that his running mate has to be either black, latino, female, or all of the above.

WHY????

The VP choice has to be the best FIT for the times, and right now, people will support a Biden/Cuomo ticket.

The WILL NOT support a Biden/Harris ticket, or a Biden/Cortez Masto ticket.

Democrats resoundingly REJECTED Kamala Harris. What makes you think that Independents will support her?

And nobody has even HEARD of Cortez Masto. Why is Biden even taking advice from Harry Reid???

Enough with the fucking pandering, and pick a running mate who can actually help Biden WIN!!!!

by Anonymousreply 35March 27, 2020 11:28 AM

It’s been pointed out hundreds of times by now that these groups DO NOT VOTE.

by Anonymousreply 38March 27, 2020 11:35 AM

Biden needs to focus on the swing states, and ONLY the swing states.

They are the ones who caused DUMP to win in 2016, and they will be responsible for picking the winner again in 2020.

Everything he does, has to be geared towards winning their votes.

Pennsylvania. Ohio. Florida. Michigan. Wisconsin.

These people will not come out for a Latina, or an African American woman. Or even a white woman, for that matter.

It has to be a Democratic version of Pence, except younger. Again, a Tim Ryan or a Conor Lamb. Definitely, a Cuomo.

That's the only way that Biden will win. He has to match Trump, every step of the way.

by Anonymousreply 39March 27, 2020 11:41 AM

R37 Sure.

by Anonymousreply 40March 27, 2020 11:43 AM

People underestimate the power of choosing Cuomo as a running mate.

Pennsylvania has a TON of Italians.

Cuomo would be the first Italian American elected to either the Presidency or the Vice-Presidency, and that would bring out Italian voters in huge numbers.

They would push Biden over the top, in many states.

by Anonymousreply 41March 27, 2020 11:43 AM

Now is not the time to pick another Tim Kaine. Warren or GTFO.

by Anonymousreply 42March 27, 2020 11:49 AM

Just pick anyone without heavy baggage to carry around and Uncle Joe will win!

Anyone/Anything But Trump 2020!

by Anonymousreply 43March 27, 2020 11:56 AM

Good. Once they stop voting completely, then Democrats can ignore them completely... and we won’t be stuck with senile “black-acceptable” trainwreck candidates like Joe Biden.

by Anonymousreply 46March 27, 2020 12:04 PM

R41 Voters don't look for demographics in candidates nearly as much as Democrats wish they did.

I'm Irish-American from a family of (mostly former) Union members and I fucking can't stand Biden's little malarkey and shenanigans tapdancing. He was a good candidate in '08, and got pushed out by better candidates. There were several other better candidates he bought off this round in the name of unifying the party. Best chance we have is replacing him.

by Anonymousreply 47March 27, 2020 12:17 PM

"malarkey and shenanigans"

That's a bar right?

by Anonymousreply 48March 27, 2020 12:24 PM

[quote]There were several other better candidates he bought off this round

1. Who'd he buy out? And if they were "better candidates" why didn't they win out in those primaries/caucuses?

2. With what money, exactly did Biden buy them out? It's well known he ain't got baller money. Are you suggesting some éminence grise paid off Pete, Amy, Liz, Harris, Beto, and Yang?

by Anonymousreply 49March 27, 2020 12:52 PM

Biden couldn't "buy off" shit.

He couldn't even afford to run tv ads in Massachusetts, for fuck's sake.

by Anonymousreply 50March 27, 2020 1:50 PM

"I read People and watch Bravo. Who?!? If I haven't seen them on TV lately, they're not qualified!"

by Anonymousreply 51March 27, 2020 2:03 PM

I love you people who just fall in love with the new hot thing of the moment. Cuomo is just doing his job. And he just looks exceptional at it, because we have such clown as a president and no real coordinated, capable federal response. I have nothing against Cuomo, I'm sure he's a good guy. But stop falling in love with every hot new thing that sashays down the street because they look better than Trump. The homeless guy who sings old Motown hits and sleeps on the sidewalk outside of my building is more capable than Trump.

by Anonymousreply 52March 27, 2020 2:08 PM

The choice of running mate sometimes hurts the candidate—Sarah Palin is the classic example—but has not actually helped since, arguably, 1960, when JFK picked LBJ.

by Anonymousreply 53March 27, 2020 2:08 PM

Sorry R52, but that's how it is when we have slim pickings

And right now, Cuomo's looking good, compared to the rest.

by Anonymousreply 54March 27, 2020 2:10 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 55March 27, 2020 2:20 PM

Exactly, R55.

She's some random pick who is recommended by Harry Reid, just because she's from Nevada.

That would be a HUGE mistake.

Cuomo has been vetted already. He's good to go.

Nobody knows anything about this Cortez Masto lady.

by Anonymousreply 56March 27, 2020 2:25 PM

Harry Reid isn’t been relevant in at least a decade.

And no, Cuomo hasn’t been vetted for a national office.

by Anonymousreply 57March 27, 2020 2:27 PM

Datalounge again proves that it collectively lives in the political world of 1988. 🙄

by Anonymousreply 58March 27, 2020 2:29 PM

Don’t know why I’m bothering to chime in since I hope Biden loses, but you want someone who expands the map. Biden likely already wins Nevada and New York.

by Anonymousreply 59March 27, 2020 2:44 PM

Exactly, R59.

This sounds more like a political favor to Harry Reid, than anything else.

Otherwise, this woman wouldn't even be under consideration.

by Anonymousreply 60March 27, 2020 2:47 PM

Biden should be on television every single day, talking about Trump's failure to deal with this pandemic.

Every fucking day!

And that's another reason he should pick Cuomo. He needs a fighter. A REAL fighter, who can demolish Trump.

They need to be hammering away at him, every single day, so people can see what a fraud he is.

by Anonymousreply 61March 27, 2020 2:56 PM

In the age of Corona, i'm afraid the "Black vote" becomes a faint whimper in the annals of history.

by Anonymousreply 62March 27, 2020 3:07 PM

This thread is crawling with racism and misogyny. Cortez Masto would be a fine pick. Andrew Cuomo would be a DISASTER. And Biden committed to a female pick at the final debate. End of discussion, misognynists. Sit down and shut up.

R58: Seriously. So many here are so fucking out of touch or just plain bigoted.

by Anonymousreply 63March 27, 2020 3:17 PM

He is now stuck with a woman

Cuomo is needed in NY he will never abandon them during this time. Cuomo 2024. As Biden is a one term president.

Sorry, I'm from California and I'm not impressed with Gavin. He is doing okay with Corona and he had no idea of what to do with the homeless, he can't get credit for piggybacking off of Cuomo.

by Anonymousreply 64March 27, 2020 3:41 PM

by Anonymousreply 66March 27, 2020 3:50 PM

Biden can backtrack on the promise to pick a woman simply by saying that the past month has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Cuomo is a leader and he, Biden, wants to offer Americans the best leader available.

by Anonymousreply 67March 27, 2020 3:50 PM

He has to pick a woman now that he's already announced his intentions. There would be major backlash if he changed his mind.

I love Cuomo but he can't campaign for the ticket with NY as ground zero of the pandemic. Although I will say that his daily briefings are the best thing the Democrats have going at the moment. Think about all the age 35+ women dreaming of marrying him while he's VP. He would be the real-life Bachelor of their dreams.

Is there even going to be a Democratic convention this year? I don't see how there could be.

by Anonymousreply 68March 27, 2020 3:55 PM

[quote]He has to pick a woman now that he's already announced his intentions. There would be major backlash if he changed his mind.

You think people have THAT as the top priority on their minds right now? Seriously?

People want a leader with a plan right now, period. If that's a woman, then so be it. But they want someone with a plan and someone who's going to tell the country how they will help lead. The vast majority of people out there aren't giving a flying fuck about the "optics" of choosing a VP and holding Biden to his promise about what he said a few months back.

by Anonymousreply 69March 27, 2020 4:11 PM

R69: He said two weeks ago at the last debate, you idiot. You Cuomo people are OBSESSED. Whoever is paying you to spam this place with his propaganda, I hope the money is worth it. Jesus Christ. And the way you people here take the black and Hispanic vote for granted and just shit on them is a great way to lose in November. Then again, some of you are Russians, Chinese and Nazis here to cause division and support Trump.

by Anonymousreply 70March 27, 2020 4:16 PM

[quote]You Cuomo people are OBSESSED

I'm not a Cuomo person. I'm simply stating that people have more pressing issues at this point.

Do you really think the millions of people who filed for unemployment this week are worried at all about the gender of whom Biden nominates as VP?

They want a leader. If that's Cortez Masto then fine. All I'm saying is they're not going to hold it against Biden for who he nominates as long as that person is viewed as being someone who can be a strong leader.

It ain't that deep. Geez.

by Anonymousreply 71March 27, 2020 4:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 72March 27, 2020 4:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 73March 27, 2020 4:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 75March 27, 2020 4:27 PM

Who cares that Sanders beat Biden in Nevada. It was a caucus.

by Anonymousreply 76March 27, 2020 4:28 PM

Actually my wish for VP would be Adam Schiff who could take over flawlessly when Biden raptures probably within a year of taking office but I know Schiff is just wishful thinking. I'd settle for Cuomo, no problem.

I do not want:

Some unknown/newbie/inexperienced woman Senator/Gov/Mayor/Congresswoman who would be the democratic version of Sarah Palin but not as stupid.

Amy Klobuchar

Stacey Abrams

by Anonymousreply 77March 27, 2020 4:30 PM

How amazing would Bernie + AOC or Bernie + Cuomo be?

by Anonymousreply 78March 27, 2020 4:34 PM

Well it's a choice between baggage and inexperience. We need to be more cutthroat than the repugs. In a situation like this we need it. And yes right now optics don't matter. It has to be a woman of color or we are ipso facto misogynists/racists? Will they take this guy back to the looney bin? But I imagine his caretakers are too exhausted mopping up the froth from his mouth.

I can't imagine Biden at this point making an all out assault. The man has to be so carefully managed he can only propped up for so long before needing an oxygen tank and complete rest until his next appearance. The queen at nearly 94 is a firebrand in comparison. Of course she does have the advantage of being able to keep her mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 79March 27, 2020 6:16 PM

[quote] he didn't win Nevada, he got destroyed by Sanders

In a caucus. Biden has always won states where the majority of Democratic voters cast their ballots, rather than a few people at a caucus get to bully others.

[quote] Biden can backtrack on the promise to pick a woman simply by saying that the past month has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Cuomo is a leader and he, Biden, wants to offer Americans the best leader available.

Exactly. Right now, he needs to pick the most qualified person to step in (should anything happen to him).

And that person should be chosen on their ABILITY, and not on their skin color, or whether they have a penis or vagina.

[quote] He has to pick a woman now that he's already announced his intentions. There would be major backlash if he changed his mind.

Absolutely not.

He doesn't have to do any such thing.

Again, what is called for in these trying times, is someone like Cuomo, who can bash Trump and Pence in the debates.

A tough guy. A fighter.

by Anonymousreply 80March 27, 2020 6:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 83March 27, 2020 9:18 PM

R6 Is this same question, over and over. Biden might "have" the votes of black and latino voters, but that's not the whole story. 2016 was lost, not just by "white working class populist voters in the rust belt", but rather by a lower turn out of Democratic core constituencies than 2008 and 2012. Biden also "has" women's votes. But he needs black, latino, and women voters to come out in record numbers. His choice of a VP can help that.

by Anonymousreply 84March 27, 2020 9:24 PM

Black, Latinos, and Women don’t like Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 85March 27, 2020 9:44 PM

Ok if not Cuomo then Michele Obama. She fills all the slots, an individual of smarts, strength, class and nerve, well known, and she'll have her husband guiding her through the shoals using his experience to shore up her inexperience. Biden will not last. He's in Judy Garland territory not by drugs and pills but simply by cruel age. After the intense campaigning if elected he won't even make it beyond the inauguration to Saturday. Those who are propping him up will be exhausted as well. Is there another backstage crew in reserve? The Obamas are a royal couple in a democratic sense to go toe to toe with Donald with the potential to obliterate him. So what if she has no personal experience in governing, did Trump?

Of course she said she has no interest whatsoever but never say never. And after Biden is comfortably at home with round the clock nursing care choosing her husband as vp(is this constitutional?)… well nothing would galvanize the democratic party in such a spectacular way. The fire in the belly of democrats will take no prisoners. I hope.

[QUOTE] How amazing would Bernie + AOC or Bernie + Cuomo be?

Not amazing to Democratic voters considering how badly Bernie gets trounced in primary after primary by Joe Biden.

I know Michael Eric Dyson dubbed this country the “United States of Amnesia” for its short memory, but surely you Bernie Bots couldn’t have already forgotten that your hero was wholeheartedly rejected by a large coalition of Democratic voters for the second time in four years?

by Anonymousreply 89March 27, 2020 11:12 PM

It's incomprehensible how many people here want Biden to choose someone nobody has ever heard of.

You really think Donald Trump and a solidly united Republican Party is going to be beaten by a nice old geezer in obvious mental decline and an unknown politician from some state somewhere, not sure which one?

Or Warren? Another one over 70? Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 90March 27, 2020 11:26 PM

i want Bernie sanders and elizabeth warren. We really need smart people. If the DNC are running a dementia patient against trump, it means they think that anyone can beat trump. Of course the DNC thought the same during the Hillary Clinton campaign, which crashed a burned.

What does the DNC have to do with Bernie getting his ass kicked in states that he won four years ago, R92? How did the DNC force almost 10 million Democratic voters so far to vote for Joe Biden? Are you saying the numbers are fake?

by Anonymousreply 94March 27, 2020 11:43 PM

[QUOTE] i want Bernie sanders and elizabeth warren.

The people in Liz Warren’s home state of Massachusetts didn’t even want her for President—they voted for Joe Biden.

by Anonymousreply 95March 27, 2020 11:44 PM

I voted for Bernie in the 2016 primary, and now I'm totally against him.

His shtick got old. And he's proved he's not a Democrat, he just wants to use our structure and our votes for his own ego. He has proposed nothing that has a chance of passing Congress, and he has demonstrated no ability to run anything.

He thinks we're stupid enough to vote for him just because he yells about everything he doesn't like.

by Anonymousreply 96March 27, 2020 11:48 PM

bloomberg ran attack ads against them. The DNC is attacking their own. Bloomberg does not want Bernie or Elizabeth so he spent 500 million to stop them. If they just support health care and bernie sanders and elizabeth warren, we would be in good shape.

Biden needs to drop out at the convention and endorse Bernie. Bernie needs to pick elizabeth warren for VP. The American people need them both.

To satisfy you all, Biden will apologize to DL for winning the nomination, jump to his death from Mount Rushmore and Bernie, Liz and Hillary will run as co-presidents who promise to die in the first term so VP Kamala Harris can assume the presidency.

There - has everybody now cum in their pants?

Catherine is awesome. She was Nevada AG. She has the gravitas.

She is between Harris and Pelosi in temperament.

Plus she has an extended Italian/Latinx family.

I would prefer Susan Rice, but Biden upping Catherine's visibility isn't bad either.

Catherine is the rainmaker of the DSCC. She is powerful AND effective.

So proud of her.

by Anonymousreply 102March 28, 2020 12:10 AM

Quite frankly, he can't pick people like Cuomo or the governor of MI, because they are in the midst of this challenging fight in their states against the virus.

Imagine how little support they'd have if they walked away from their states to be Joe's #2.

by Anonymousreply 103March 28, 2020 12:10 AM

R27 well I think Obama knew or suspected Biden might have early onset dementia, and he saw it first hand how it deteriorated over the years when they worked together, that's why Obama advised him not to run in the last election. And this year, Obama just completely shut him off, avoid him and never really talked about Biden and his election bid, so he definitely knows something.

Reneging on a commitment he made on a national platform would be suicidal, so there roughly a zero percent chance of that happening. I find it so frustrating and annoying when people waste energy on what can never be.

by Anonymousreply 141March 28, 2020 3:50 AM

Joe is clearly aiming at winning Arizona by flirting with the idea that he could pick up a Southwestern Latina. Cortez Masto is from neighboring Nevada.

Democrats are counting on Joe to get them that coveted Arizona Senate seat they know it's theirs. They can almost taste it.

Problem is that Joe was part of the Obama administration and Arizona was ground zero in immigration policy with Arpaio, Brewer, and Obama all pounding at the same time.

by Anonymousreply 142March 28, 2020 3:53 AM

by Anonymousreply 166March 28, 2020 11:29 AM

Promising to pick a female candidate, but not a specific female was a condescending and stupid move. Sure, pick a female candidate. But don’t treat her like a token. But now that he has done it, backIng off would be even worse. It would be like saying, “I wanted to give one of the little ladies a hand up, but none of them were up to the job.”

I’d like to know how that decision was made. What was the benefit supposed to be? Why not just wait and actually announce a female running mate? Why tease it?

by Anonymousreply 167March 28, 2020 11:53 AM

I think his plan was Warren. While her politics were closer to Bernie, she was not Bernie and she got burned by on stage and never forgot it. Plus his bros were very misogynistic in their attacks on her, just as they were with Clinton, wash rinse repeat. Had he picked Warren, he would get a huge chunk of white female voters. That is what I think his team was thinking. But he never gave us a name so, he just locked himself into picking "a woman". He was put on the spot during the debate and I think he knew deep down who he already wanted looking more decisive than Sanders who was wishy washy about it at best.

by Anonymousreply 168March 28, 2020 12:13 PM

That’s what I thought too, R168. But then what changed? Why not pick her? Why didn’t his team go into damage control mode immediately after he said it and tell him to pick a running mate immediately? Somehow narrowing the field to women creates a weird beauty contest vibe where these accomplished women are being run up the flagpole to be judged on popularity and appeal. I realize it would be the exact same process for men if he hadn’t excluded them, but it just comes across different when it’s only women.

by Anonymousreply 169March 28, 2020 12:22 PM

She didn't endorse him right a way so I think it got away from him in terms of timing. His team probably thought it was a good idea to give her some breathing space like all candidates need after they call it quits. They might have even though by letting people guess it would bring him more attention as to who it might be. Unfortunately, with the Pandemic, it's fucked up everyone's plan from Bernie to Cheeto. No one really cares about politics of a VP pick right now.

by Anonymousreply 170March 28, 2020 12:26 PM

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks, R170?

So telling her, “Hey, endorse me and I’ll give you the VP slot” might have been too risky while she was still licking her wounds? Or is it more of an unspoken etiquette / pride thing?

by Anonymousreply 171March 28, 2020 12:36 PM

He’s going to pick Klobuchar.

by Anonymousreply 172March 28, 2020 1:07 PM

[quote]He should pick Gretchen Whitmer from Michigan just to piss off tRump

Trump hates Whitmer, so it would make for an interesting race. But she’s not really vetted yet for a national run, and could turn out to be another Sarah Palin.

by Anonymousreply 173March 28, 2020 1:08 PM

Based on her performance there is no evidence to suggest Warren brought a lot to a ticket. I won’t say nothing, because that wouldn’t be fair. But other than in the impenetrable hearts of some DL diehards, who can deny any reality, as someone else pointed out: she third in her own state primary. She never won a primary. That is not a position of strength.

I figure they want someone with the least amount of baggage. An unknown - compared to the veterans of the nomination battles - is probably the path of least resistance.

R161 must have to have dementia as well to understand what Biden is saying and not to realize the man is noticeably deteriorating. Like two patients in a nursing home having a conversation no one else can understand.

And to simply announce he has to have a token vice president is either the greatest stupidity or the grossest condescension. And politicians change their minds all the time. Nobody has noticed this? And I never said you caused covid 19 R126 so that shows your inability to understand a simple declarative statement. No wonder you think Biden is just fine as he is. by Anonymousreply 185March 28, 2020 3:49 PM

R132 The term Latinx actually was promoted by Latino/Chicano Studies academics. See what happens when you send people to good universities?? But it was generated by latinos in the US. It's absent in the rest of the world The Real Academia Española will never give in approval in our lifetime.

I am so annoyed by white "disapproval" of "identity politics"... "..oh, you can't beat Trump with identity politics!!). Everything Trump does himself is Identity Politics. Trump's white supremacist xenophobia is the dictionary definition of Identity Politics.

Every year the number of Americans who turn 18 presents a HIGHER percentage of Latino voters. Reach out to Latino (or black, or women) voters in order to increase voter turnout will win the election. Additionally CCM could appeal to two critical "identity" voter groups who could help Biden win Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, FLA, MI, PA.... Latinos and suburban women.

R152 Right. And Hillary sold children into sex slavery out of a pizza parlor. Look it up!!

by Anonymousreply 186March 28, 2020 3:56 PM

“Latinos” are not one homogenous group. Cuban-Americans are dramatically different politically from Mexican immigrants, who are very different from descendants of European Spaniards.

by Anonymousreply 187March 28, 2020 4:08 PM

R187 Obviously. But the Cuban (and privileged Latin American refugee/expatriate) demographics, largely in FLA, are numerically much smaller than the predominant Mexican, and secondarily Puerto Rican and Central American, populations. Other than FLA, appealing to those greater groups of Latinos (whose political interests are much more aligned, different from Cubans etc.) is what can impact the next presidential election. AZ, TX, NC... those are Mexican and Central American. Cultural accuracy: Latinos are very diverse. Political reality: get chicanos and Mexican Americans to vote.

by Anonymousreply 188March 28, 2020 5:02 PM

If it's totally fine that this woman wrote a defense of a Gay Marriage Ban as part of her job as Attorney General... then it's also perfectly fine that Amy Klobuchar successfully prosecuted a teenage black child-killer as part of her job as a Prosecutor. Can't have it both ways.

by Anonymousreply 193March 28, 2020 11:37 PM

r193, Public officials doing their job cannot be faulted for doing their jobs.

I have no problem with Klobuchar.

But they are apples and oranges.

One is a criminal statute.

The other was a social amendment to the NV Constitution.

AG Cortez-Masto wrote a brilliant defense of a horrible law that was overturned. I believe that was her intention.

She would make a great VP.

by Anonymousreply 194March 28, 2020 11:44 PM

Trump has reason to be worried about Biden.

Sanders has congestive heart failure, he can't even breathe when *standing still*. If he makes it to the convention, and I hope he doesn't, what happens when he has a fatal heart attack two weeks before the election? His VP nominee Nina Turner takes his place? She'll lose more states than Mondale.

R195: Cut the crap with the Sanders death fantasies. He won't get the nomination. Honestly, some of you here need serious help.

R191: What in the ever loving fuck are you talking about??

by Anonymousreply 197March 28, 2020 11:53 PM

[quote]Cut the crap with the Sanders death fantasies. He won't get the nomination. Honestly, some of you here need serious help.

We know that Sanders won't get the nomination. However he won't drop out and will continue campaigning until he dies, which will hopefully be soon.

by Anonymousreply 198March 29, 2020 12:00 AM

So you're all just going to go on as if this guy isn't showing signs of having dementia? And y'all going to ignore the rape allegations, part of a long list of allegations? How about former Rep Pat Schroeder coming out when he joined the race to say that he was dismissive of congresswomen who were unhappy about his treatment of Anita Hill? No? How about his proven lies, his inflating of his law school record, his plagiarizing others' speeches, not to mention the Hunter stuff and his many threats to cut social security and medicare, which he lies about all the time. And the way he goes off on people. "Look, fat." This guy has more red flags than a Mayday parade in the former USSR.

by Anonymousreply 199March 29, 2020 12:02 AM

I saw you in the other Biden threads. Go away, troll.

by Anonymousreply 200March 29, 2020 12:09 AM

r197, In her EPIC defense of Hetero marriage, NV AG Cortez-Masto threw EVERY horrible and outrageous canard about gays into her beautifully written required response. We had a Republican governor at the time. I can't remember if she kept the "marrying your horse" argument.

by Anonymousreply 201March 29, 2020 12:09 AM

R199 is Nina Turner.

by Anonymousreply 202March 29, 2020 12:12 AM

Pete should be chosen as VP. Unlike biden, he is liked by white working class voters.

by Anonymousreply 203March 29, 2020 12:27 AM

R199, The DNC has chosen a totally flawed candidate just like they did in 2016. Truly a gift to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 204March 29, 2020 12:28 AM

R201, She has that in common with Biden. Biden was originally against Don't ask Don't Tell because he believed in a total blanket ban on gays in the military.

by Anonymousreply 205March 29, 2020 12:30 AM

r201, she wrote that argument BECAUSE she was an ally.

It was like the book report, tell me how much you hate Moby Dick.

Biden BECAME an ally, and a very good one at that.

by Anonymousreply 206March 29, 2020 12:49 AM

It he chooses this bitch, he's showing he doesn't give a fuck about gay people.

by Anonymousreply 207March 29, 2020 1:03 AM

r207, you seem to be an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 208March 29, 2020 1:04 AM

Are these same people pushing for Cuomo to be VP the same ones who a month and half a ago thought Bloomberg would be a perfect candidate because he's a "real billionaire" and can taunt Trump?

Stop forcing your NYC trash on the rest of the country. Stop being sheeple and supporting whoever CNN tells you to support, brainless idiots!

by Anonymousreply 209March 29, 2020 1:10 AM

The majority have spoken. Biden +2.45 million votes. Biden +308 pledged delegates. Over and out, loud and clear, Sanders is *not*wanted*. Get lost, take a hike - no, take a hint or 17.

Now about that lying cunt who identifies herself as a Sanders supporter. Hmm... She can't remember when or where this "rape" took place? She can't remember what either party was wearing? She never reported the problem to anyone? She waited 30 years to tell the story? She has no proof this "rape" ever took place? All sounds kind of...convenient to me. I could say the same thing about any employer I've had. In this country, you are presumed innocent until proven guilty. I want to see this cunt testify under oath.

by Anonymousreply 210March 29, 2020 1:27 AM

Biden only won against Sanders because the DNC cleared the field of all moderate competition.

Biden would have won deeply religious southern states only Ifnot for the field being cleared.

by Anonymousreply 211March 29, 2020 1:29 AM

Bernie gasping for air while standing still.

by Anonymousreply 212March 29, 2020 1:32 AM

Has Bernie released his medical records? His breathing looks labored.

by Anonymousreply 213March 29, 2020 1:35 AM

r211, Bernie would't have won either. It would have ended in a plurality for everyone and a contested convention, which REAL democrats recognized as not a good thing.

by Anonymousreply 214March 29, 2020 1:39 AM

🙉 QUE ?

by Anonymousreply 215March 29, 2020 1:48 AM

Its hilarious to see SJW white people accusing everyone critical of Carole Baskin of being a misogynist.

by Anonymousreply 216March 29, 2020 1:54 AM

R414, Bernie would have won like he did in New Hampshore and Nevada.

by Anonymousreply 217March 29, 2020 1:56 AM

Bernie only wins caucuses. He only won California because voters had mailed their ballots early and the media convinced people that Biden's campaign was toast.

by Anonymousreply 218March 29, 2020 1:59 AM

R218, Nah he won New Hampshire too which was not a caucus.

by Anonymousreply 219March 29, 2020 2:01 AM

And, even in California, r218, Biden kept Bernie to a single digit win.

by Anonymousreply 220March 29, 2020 2:05 AM

R212 Bernie looks awful.

Funny, if that were Biden, there would be people on this thread telling us that the video clip had been edited.

Or that Biden was out of breath because he was late and came in running.

Bernie obviously has serious health problems. And Biden is deteriorating mentally.

It's all there for us to see with our own eyes.

by Anonymousreply 221March 29, 2020 2:14 AM

So lets keep Trump! OK then. Of course they'll be enough dead by October in the Blue States to guarantee him a genuine landslide he craves.

by Anonymousreply 222March 29, 2020 2:16 AM

New Hampshire was definitely a warning sign for the Bernie campaign. Going from 60% of the vote in 2016 to 25% in 2020, basically at that point we knew that if the moderate dropped out he had no chance. His 30% strategy was a pipe dream.

by Anonymousreply 223March 29, 2020 2:25 AM

I am so pissed off at biden right now. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are working their asses off to protect the American people. I expect that BIDEN helps them, thus US (AKA the American people).

This Biden has been AWOL, doing nothing but causing trouble.

I think it is time that Bernie Sanders is President and Elizabeth Warren is VP. You know, people who are smart that are already working their asses off to save us ALL.

by Anonymousreply 224March 29, 2020 2:47 AM

r85, many have changed their mind with the old white farts running shit.

by Anonymousreply 225March 29, 2020 2:49 AM

R224 I am a Warren supporter, but this is BS. Bernie is trying to run for the nomination. Biden has a bunch of media presence (like Bernie) effectively criticizing Trump. Only Warren is actually concrete with solutions. Of course, she has "a plan"

by Anonymousreply 226March 29, 2020 2:54 AM

r95, in her defense she was already written off as having no path to the nomination. People voted for Joe to block Bernie

by Anonymousreply 227March 29, 2020 2:56 AM

Did she ever poll well in Massachusetts though, r227?

by Anonymousreply 228March 29, 2020 2:58 AM

Biden is an absolute trainwreck. God Help Us.

by Anonymousreply 229March 29, 2020 3:01 AM

r228, yep she did. I tried to find one on Realclear but it wouldn't go back but had her up the last day in one poll.

A lot of people on this thread really are anti-woman but you have to deal with it. Biden's VP is going to be a woman.

by Anonymousreply 230March 29, 2020 3:08 AM

r224, Biden is isolating. We don't want him to catch the Corona. He has said made statements.

by Anonymousreply 231March 29, 2020 3:10 AM

[quote]I think it is time that Bernie Sanders is President and Elizabeth Warren is VP.

Yeah, that's never going to happen. Give it a rest.

by Anonymousreply 232March 29, 2020 3:13 AM

[quote] [R95], in her defense she was already written off as having no path to the nomination.

I don’t quite get how that’s a defense. Her campaign had failed. Did everyone annotate their ballots to indicate they were only voting for Biden because she couldn’t pull it off but if she could they would have voted for her?

by Anonymousreply 233March 29, 2020 3:14 AM

Bloomberg's 500 millions dollars destroyed elizabeth warren's presidential campaign. Though, she is still a US Senator working her ass off. So is Bernie Sanders. Bloomberg is being sued because he lied to his own staffers. Biden is doing jack shit.

Biden needs to drop out. Let Bernie be President. Let Elizabeth Warren be VP. Can we have smart people in the white house? We need them.

by Anonymousreply 234March 29, 2020 3:30 AM

R230 A lot of people on DL are also anti gay men. What's your point?

We only like hot straight cut young white men without tattoos so fuck off.

Let me know when Biden picks one for vp. Swarthy old Italian man Wop Cuomo doesn't cut it

by Anonymousreply 235March 29, 2020 3:34 AM

How pissed off is Bernie at Warren for destroying Bloomberg in the debates and thus keeping Bloomberg from being competitive on super Tuesday. Bernie had no chance after that.

by Anonymousreply 236March 29, 2020 3:36 AM

[quote]Biden needs to drop out. Let Bernie be President.

Who exactly is gonna elect Bernie president if he can't get the nomination unless every fucking body else drops out or drops dead?

by Anonymousreply 237March 29, 2020 3:38 AM

Biden had an hour-long CNN virtual town hall about COVID-19. He hasn't been silent at all, isolating - yes, like any intelligent old person would be.

As for Sanders/Warren? LMAO. They'd be lucky to win VT and MA. Even Bill Maher laughed at Warren's promise that her Secretary of Education would have to be approved by a transgender teen. "What is she running for - President of Berkley?" New England Dems don't get it, that doesn't fly in the rust belt.

by Anonymousreply 238March 29, 2020 3:46 AM

R234, How? He did more damage to Pere's campaign. Pete was actually doing well early on and won Iowa, all the media could talk about was Bloomberg and how black people love him.

by Anonymousreply 240March 29, 2020 3:58 AM

R143 For the millionth time, Texas is not in play. Poorly conducted surveys, "latinxes," and blue state transplants notwithstanding.

Hispanics in Texas are very conservative and rural, and currently being pandered to by Trump like crazy. California imports are more likely to go native and become more conservative than "turn Texas blue." They've been failing since the 80s.

No Democratic strategy should ever hinge on winning Texas.

by Anonymousreply 241March 29, 2020 5:23 AM

OK I called Cortez Masto on this forum as a possibility.

That said this may be the old 'seriously considered' trick.

If you already know who you want, throw out some other names first and let their supporters/demographic believe they were truly being seriously considered. So maybe the latino/a/x will think that Biden respected their girl and turn out to vote for him anyway even if in the end he didn't pick her. The same trick gets pulled with Supreme Court justices.

by Anonymousreply 242March 29, 2020 5:24 AM

Also, boy did Biden look old on that clip from 'The View'. He looks well into his 80s.

by Anonymousreply 243March 29, 2020 5:25 AM

And Bernie looks like he was born when Cleopatra was alive.

by Anonymousreply 244March 29, 2020 5:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 246March 29, 2020 2:12 PM

She's got a record almost as bad as Biden on gay rights.

by Anonymousreply 247March 29, 2020 4:08 PM

Those voters now make up a large percentage of Trump's base now and aren't coming back r100. They are happy with him.
