Good! I was afraid they'd hold the games in front of empty stadiums, and let the athletes get on with wrestling and screwing and thinking they're invincible.

I think it's cancelled. We will hear things here and there but it will eventually be called off. Still too risky, even 18 months from now.

How is DL darling Tom Daley taking it? And other cute twinks we like?
I pity the athletes. They amp up / taper off their training to be in peak shape for July/August 2020, and now that's all shot and they must recalibrate their workout intensities etc.
And will the aging twink's bodies hold out 1 more year?

The only good thing is that at least the host country has a robust economy that can weather the storm of this financial hit better than most. Can you imagine the disaster if this had been, say, Greece?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 28, 2020 7:09 PM |
"Very sad for any country that spent $$$ on infra-structure to support an Olympics, expecting to recoup with Olympics revenue."
The host country never, ever makes any money on hosting the Olympics. The only one making coin off the Olympics is the thoroughly corrupt and rotten IOC.
I hope countries wise up and refuse to subsidize these fiascoes any more.

I love the Olympics. It's the one time in four years I watch things like gymnastics, swimming, diving, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 28, 2020 8:40 PM |
R32, you should watch NCAA women's collegiate gymnastics. It's actually much more fun than the Olympics. The tricks aren't nearly as hard but the ladies start going towards artistry and expression.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 28, 2020 8:49 PM |
Yeah, R33 but then don't you have to listen to that God Awful Amanda Borden?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 28, 2020 9:10 PM |
R34, yeah, but it's better than listening to chipmunk Bart Conner.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 28, 2020 9:15 PM |
R35, I wish the Olympic broadcast had Bart Conner commentating instead of that dreadful Tim Daggett.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 28, 2020 9:16 PM |
R33, hmmm, that might be worth checking out. Bonus points if those gymnasts don't do those awful wolf turns on beam that I'm seeing from all of the American gymnasts.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 28, 2020 9:42 PM |
NCAA gymnastics is like watching a boozed up version of second rate athletes try to do tricks past their peak. It's very painful to watch if you have followed enough elite meets.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 28, 2020 9:48 PM |
R41 = McKayla Skinner, still upset she only got one 10 in college.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 28, 2020 10:26 PM |
Finale of the 2018 NCAA Championships. Poor Bart had to pretend to be excited for UCLA when they edged out his Oklahoma Sooners. Kathy sounds like she's on Vicodin.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 28, 2020 10:51 PM |
I still prefer Kathy and Bart to Tim & Elfi Schlagel (however you spell her name). The latter two always seem to trash the non-American international gymnasts.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 28, 2020 10:57 PM |
Elfi was far worse than Tim ever was.
Although he did delight in jinxing a gymnast by making some comment right before they fell.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 28, 2020 11:14 PM |
R44 Elfi is a Canadian which might explain that, but Tim is such a USA homer that I absolutely swear he's a Trumpkin. His college roommate Peter Vidmar left the Olympic committee because of his opposition to gay marriage via his Mormon religion.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 28, 2020 11:30 PM |
R46, I thought all those male gymnasts are gay? Someone on another gymnastics thread said that it's a sport that has a disproportionate amount of power bottoms.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 28, 2020 11:34 PM |
R47, I can't speak for now, but the majority of the previous generation of elite male gymnasts were straight, or at least not out. Bart Conner married Nadia Comaneci and you can't beard any more than that.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 28, 2020 11:39 PM |
R48, I'm surprised not one of those gay, closeted male gymnasts from before bearded with Mary Lou Retton.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 28, 2020 11:41 PM |
R49 And MLR is a power Dom top.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 28, 2020 11:43 PM |
Not all male gymnasts are gay.
But Tim and Peter definitely are.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 28, 2020 11:44 PM |
The only one I cared about being gay or not was Alexei Nemov. The looks and charisma were intoxicating! I could MARY! all day about him in his prime.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 28, 2020 11:45 PM |
Alexei was not gay. Some of his teammates however...
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 28, 2020 11:48 PM |
R53 Oh I know he wasn't. Sadly.
Now the Americans have hotties. There was one blond guy on the 2008 team who had the looks and looked like he could and would fuck you good and dirty.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 28, 2020 11:49 PM |
[quote] Bart Conner married Nadia Comaneci and you can't beard any more than that.
Grown-up Nadia has always come across as a rather stone-cold, eastern European dominatrix.
Even in this pic, Nadia's face looks like it's wondering -- "Vy is theees little American homosexual boy kissing me?"
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 28, 2020 11:50 PM |
Not sure which you're referring to R54, but of the 2008 Olympic squad the only one that sucked dick was one of the Hamm brothers.

I told you that they'd cancel. There is NO WAY that Japan would let in hordes of diseased foreigners. They shunned their own people-- Hiroshima residents after the a-bomb and Fukushima refugees as well. Reports like that do not make it into the foreign press so much, but Japan is the most uncaring and xenophobic country in the first world. The Games were NOT going to happen.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | March 29, 2020 1:40 AM |
Technically, they're just postponing until 2021. Japan [italic]will[/italic] have their Olympics, and to them I think it's no matter that it would come at such a heightened financial loss, because it's more a point of pride by this point.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 29, 2020 5:17 PM |
One thing to consider is that I wonder how much this will screw up plans for younger athletes who are high school seniors right now, such as several elite gymnasts. They probably thought they were set to graduate, compete in the summer, and then start their freshman year in college in the fall. Now, they may have to defer for a year if they're serious about training for Summer 2021.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | March 29, 2020 5:21 PM |
The problem for athletes like gymnasts is;
1) this will have taken several weeks if not months out of their training current training which a lot of gymnasts can't overcome. It sounds silly but gymnasts can find it really hard to get back to competitive level after taking just a month off.
2) when 2022l1 comes around they'll have to compete with younger gymnasts who are now eligible to compete in 2021. The squads are shrunken down so much noe that it's going to be much more difficult to try to secure a spot in the team.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | March 29, 2020 5:35 PM |
The Olympic scam should be shut down forever. FIFA too!
by Anonymous | reply 71 | March 29, 2020 5:40 PM |
R71, why? It's about rewarding the best athletes in the world and many of these athletes have worked their entire lives for this moment.
Maybe they should shut down the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys as well while they're at it?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | March 29, 2020 5:45 PM |
I'm going to miss all those hot divers.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | March 29, 2020 9:33 PM |
"It's about rewarding the best athletes in the world and many of these athletes have worked their entire lives for this moment."
What a load of happy horseshit if there ever was one.
It may have been about sportsmanship 50 years ago, but now it's only about the $$$$$$$$$ the IOC and the Olympic "amateur " athletes can make. Meanwhile, the people footing the bill for these extravaganzas, the taxpayers, get zilch.
If all of these dedicated athletes want to get together to show off their hard earned work, let them foot the bill for it. Quit looking for taxpayers and others to subsidize your habits and life style choices.

I'm curious if the Gymnastics competition will follow the 2017-2020 Technical Rules or the 2021-2024 Code?
If they judge based on the newer code, it will give an advantage to younger athletes who have already been training the code in preparation for next year's season.

by Anonymous | reply 92 | May 23, 2020 2:07 AM |
(R81) I am a huge gymnastics fan, too. No, gymnastics will use the current Code of Points for 2021 Olympics. But quite unfairly, the gymnastics powers that be said that girls currently ineligible to compete due to age (too young) can compete next year for a spot at the Olympics. That leaves the current crop of girls at a disadvantage since they will be a year older and somewhat past their prime. Women's gymnastics favors the 15-17 year olds.
It will be difficult to make the USA team with only 4 spots open for the team competition. Specialists can earn a spot if they win World Cup events.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | May 23, 2020 2:12 AM |
