Thank you Canada for forcing their hand.

by Anonymousreply 101September 18, 2020 9:37 AM

Well if Japan didn't hate China enough before..

by Anonymousreply 1March 23, 2020 11:07 PM

Good! I was afraid they'd hold the games in front of empty stadiums, and let the athletes get on with wrestling and screwing and thinking they're invincible.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2020 12:33 AM

I think it's cancelled. We will hear things here and there but it will eventually be called off. Still too risky, even 18 months from now.

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2020 12:44 AM

CBS radio say it will take place in 2021

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2020 1:14 AM

The Japs have spent billions on this olympics. It’s happening even if they have to get robots to engage in the contests.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2020 1:37 AM

Here come the fucking racists

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2020 1:40 AM

No way it was going to happen this year.

Man, 2020 will be a year for the record books.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2020 1:42 AM

The Olympics has been postponed four months before it was due to start and it's not even that big a news story. This is where we are.

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2020 1:43 AM

The 2024 Olympics will be split between the 2024 country and Japan. My prediction.

by Anonymousreply 9March 24, 2020 2:37 AM

“International Olympic Committee member Dick Pound...”

Teehee...

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2020 2:41 AM

Dick Pound will always force your hand.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2020 9:38 AM
Thank you Canada for forcing their hand.

That's nothing, we Germans made them postpone them THREE TIMES

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2020 11:01 AM

Probably is going to be Tokyo 2024. Paris 2028 and LA 2032.

Paris wont be ready for 2024.

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2020 11:06 AM

Everyone loves Canada❤

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2020 11:07 AM

Games are officially postponed until 2021. Assuming there’s a vaccine/treatment by then, this could turn out to be quite the celebration.

r13

London hosted the 1948 games only three years after WWII ended

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2020 12:45 PM

How is DL darling Tom Daley taking it? And other cute twinks we like?

I pity the athletes. They amp up / taper off their training to be in peak shape for July/August 2020, and now that's all shot and they must recalibrate their workout intensities etc.

And will the aging twink's bodies hold out 1 more year?

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2020 12:45 PM

r14

NOT everyone

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2020 12:47 PM

R17 Is Tom even a twink anymore? Isn't he almost 30?

by Anonymousreply 19March 24, 2020 1:04 PM

He's 25, R19.

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2020 2:08 PM

Poor Simone, hahahaha.

Thanks God!!!!

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2020 6:30 PM

Omg.

by Anonymousreply 22March 24, 2020 6:52 PM

Fuck Canada. As the boys of South Park sing, "Blame Canada!"

by Anonymousreply 23March 24, 2020 7:00 PM

Very proud of Canada

by Anonymousreply 24March 24, 2020 7:01 PM

Postponed to 2021. Proud of Japan for manning up.

by Anonymousreply 25March 24, 2020 7:22 PM

Very sad for any country that spent $$$ on infra-structure to support an Olympics, expecting to recoup with Olympics revenue.

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2020 8:12 PM

The Olympics are rarely cancelled so this is big news. They were cancelled previously due to WWI and WWII and not since then.

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2020 9:29 PM

r27

These weren't cancelled they were postponed. In

The 1904 St Louis Olympics were supposed to be in Chicago but St Louis stole them.

by Anonymousreply 28March 27, 2020 12:08 AM

The only good thing is that at least the host country has a robust economy that can weather the storm of this financial hit better than most. Can you imagine the disaster if this had been, say, Greece?

by Anonymousreply 29March 28, 2020 7:09 PM

"Very sad for any country that spent $$$ on infra-structure to support an Olympics, expecting to recoup with Olympics revenue."

The host country never, ever makes any money on hosting the Olympics. The only one making coin off the Olympics is the thoroughly corrupt and rotten IOC.

I hope countries wise up and refuse to subsidize these fiascoes any more.

by Anonymousreply 30March 28, 2020 8:25 PM

Literally no one gives a shit about the fucking Olympics in this day and age.

by Anonymousreply 31March 28, 2020 8:32 PM

I love the Olympics. It's the one time in four years I watch things like gymnastics, swimming, diving, etc.

by Anonymousreply 32March 28, 2020 8:40 PM

R32, you should watch NCAA women's collegiate gymnastics. It's actually much more fun than the Olympics. The tricks aren't nearly as hard but the ladies start going towards artistry and expression.

by Anonymousreply 33March 28, 2020 8:49 PM

Yeah, R33 but then don't you have to listen to that God Awful Amanda Borden?

by Anonymousreply 34March 28, 2020 9:10 PM

R34, yeah, but it's better than listening to chipmunk Bart Conner.

by Anonymousreply 35March 28, 2020 9:15 PM

R35, I wish the Olympic broadcast had Bart Conner commentating instead of that dreadful Tim Daggett.

by Anonymousreply 36March 28, 2020 9:16 PM

R33, hmmm, that might be worth checking out. Bonus points if those gymnasts don't do those awful wolf turns on beam that I'm seeing from all of the American gymnasts.

by Anonymousreply 37March 28, 2020 9:17 PM

Fuck Bart and Tim... we need Kathy Johnson!

by Anonymousreply 38March 28, 2020 9:26 PM
Man, 2020 will be a year for the record books.

Probably the most prophetic quote I've read in years. I truly sums up the entire world

by Anonymousreply 39March 28, 2020 9:32 PM

Sad the way that gay hottie got sucked into the corrupt world of the IOC. You know which one I mean, the Canadian - Tewksbury. Has anyone seen his one-man show "Belongs"?

by Anonymousreply 40March 28, 2020 9:42 PM

NCAA gymnastics is like watching a boozed up version of second rate athletes try to do tricks past their peak. It's very painful to watch if you have followed enough elite meets.

by Anonymousreply 41March 28, 2020 9:48 PM

R41 = McKayla Skinner, still upset she only got one 10 in college.

by Anonymousreply 42March 28, 2020 10:26 PM

Finale of the 2018 NCAA Championships. Poor Bart had to pretend to be excited for UCLA when they edged out his Oklahoma Sooners. Kathy sounds like she's on Vicodin.

by Anonymousreply 43March 28, 2020 10:51 PM

I still prefer Kathy and Bart to Tim & Elfi Schlagel (however you spell her name). The latter two always seem to trash the non-American international gymnasts.

by Anonymousreply 44March 28, 2020 10:57 PM

Elfi was far worse than Tim ever was.

Although he did delight in jinxing a gymnast by making some comment right before they fell.

by Anonymousreply 45March 28, 2020 11:14 PM

R44 Elfi is a Canadian which might explain that, but Tim is such a USA homer that I absolutely swear he's a Trumpkin. His college roommate Peter Vidmar left the Olympic committee because of his opposition to gay marriage via his Mormon religion.

by Anonymousreply 46March 28, 2020 11:30 PM

R46, I thought all those male gymnasts are gay? Someone on another gymnastics thread said that it's a sport that has a disproportionate amount of power bottoms.

by Anonymousreply 47March 28, 2020 11:34 PM

R47, I can't speak for now, but the majority of the previous generation of elite male gymnasts were straight, or at least not out. Bart Conner married Nadia Comaneci and you can't beard any more than that.

by Anonymousreply 48March 28, 2020 11:39 PM

R48, I'm surprised not one of those gay, closeted male gymnasts from before bearded with Mary Lou Retton.

by Anonymousreply 49March 28, 2020 11:41 PM

R49 And MLR is a power Dom top.

by Anonymousreply 50March 28, 2020 11:43 PM

Not all male gymnasts are gay.

But Tim and Peter definitely are.

by Anonymousreply 51March 28, 2020 11:44 PM

The only one I cared about being gay or not was Alexei Nemov. The looks and charisma were intoxicating! I could MARY! all day about him in his prime.

by Anonymousreply 52March 28, 2020 11:45 PM

Alexei was not gay. Some of his teammates however...

by Anonymousreply 53March 28, 2020 11:48 PM

R53 Oh I know he wasn't. Sadly.

Now the Americans have hotties. There was one blond guy on the 2008 team who had the looks and looked like he could and would fuck you good and dirty.

by Anonymousreply 54March 28, 2020 11:49 PM
Bart Conner married Nadia Comaneci and you can't beard any more than that.

Grown-up Nadia has always come across as a rather stone-cold, eastern European dominatrix.

Even in this pic, Nadia's face looks like it's wondering -- "Vy is theees little American homosexual boy kissing me?"

Not sure which you're referring to R54, but of the 2008 Olympic squad the only one that sucked dick was one of the Hamm brothers.

by Anonymousreply 56March 28, 2020 11:52 PM

R55, in actuality she was wondering if the trophy came with a baguette.

by Anonymousreply 57March 28, 2020 11:53 PM

R56 I'm not saying this guy was gay ( I believe he was very hetero) but he was sexy and hot.

by Anonymousreply 58March 28, 2020 11:54 PM

R53, which of Nemov's teammates were gay? I'm guessing Bondarenko?

by Anonymousreply 59March 28, 2020 11:54 PM

2008- Alexander Artemev and I agree!

by Anonymousreply 60March 28, 2020 11:55 PM

Ah, little Sasha, from 2008. His father was the one that throws the mean fucks.

by Anonymousreply 61March 29, 2020 12:10 AM

Who are the hot male gymnasts now?

by Anonymousreply 62March 29, 2020 12:31 AM

I bet little Sasha does as well. He has some hot pics on his twitter. His body is perfect. A straight twink.

by Anonymousreply 63March 29, 2020 12:36 AM

R62, I'm a fan of Russian gymnast Artur Dalaloyan.

I told you that they'd cancel. There is NO WAY that Japan would let in hordes of diseased foreigners. They shunned their own people-- Hiroshima residents after the a-bomb and Fukushima refugees as well. Reports like that do not make it into the foreign press so much, but Japan is the most uncaring and xenophobic country in the first world. The Games were NOT going to happen.

by Anonymousreply 67March 29, 2020 1:40 AM

Technically, they're just postponing until 2021. Japan [italic]will[/italic] have their Olympics, and to them I think it's no matter that it would come at such a heightened financial loss, because it's more a point of pride by this point.

by Anonymousreply 68March 29, 2020 5:17 PM

One thing to consider is that I wonder how much this will screw up plans for younger athletes who are high school seniors right now, such as several elite gymnasts. They probably thought they were set to graduate, compete in the summer, and then start their freshman year in college in the fall. Now, they may have to defer for a year if they're serious about training for Summer 2021.

by Anonymousreply 69March 29, 2020 5:21 PM

The problem for athletes like gymnasts is;

1) this will have taken several weeks if not months out of their training current training which a lot of gymnasts can't overcome. It sounds silly but gymnasts can find it really hard to get back to competitive level after taking just a month off.

2) when 2022l1 comes around they'll have to compete with younger gymnasts who are now eligible to compete in 2021. The squads are shrunken down so much noe that it's going to be much more difficult to try to secure a spot in the team.

by Anonymousreply 70March 29, 2020 5:35 PM

The Olympic scam should be shut down forever. FIFA too!

by Anonymousreply 71March 29, 2020 5:40 PM

R71, why? It's about rewarding the best athletes in the world and many of these athletes have worked their entire lives for this moment.

Maybe they should shut down the Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Grammys as well while they're at it?

by Anonymousreply 72March 29, 2020 5:45 PM

I'm going to miss all those hot divers.

by Anonymousreply 73March 29, 2020 9:33 PM

"It's about rewarding the best athletes in the world and many of these athletes have worked their entire lives for this moment."

What a load of happy horseshit if there ever was one.

It may have been about sportsmanship 50 years ago, but now it's only about the $$$$$$$$$ the IOC and the Olympic "amateur " athletes can make. Meanwhile, the people footing the bill for these extravaganzas, the taxpayers, get zilch.

If all of these dedicated athletes want to get together to show off their hard earned work, let them foot the bill for it. Quit looking for taxpayers and others to subsidize your habits and life style choices.

Tokyo Olympics rescheduled for Dyatlov Pass June 1-14, 2020.

by Anonymousreply 76March 30, 2020 3:13 PM

Who cares at this point?

by Anonymousreply 77March 30, 2020 3:16 PM

Are the cheating cheater Russians still going to be banned as a country or will this give them a pass?

Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 78March 30, 2020 3:52 PM

Well the athletes get another year to practice.

by Anonymousreply 79March 30, 2020 6:12 PM

I wonder which gymnasts will benefit from that extra year?

by Anonymousreply 80March 30, 2020 8:27 PM

I'm curious if the Gymnastics competition will follow the 2017-2020 Technical Rules or the 2021-2024 Code?

If they judge based on the newer code, it will give an advantage to younger athletes who have already been training the code in preparation for next year's season.

by Anonymousreply 81April 1, 2020 8:19 PM

I heard Tojo was agin it.

by Anonymousreply 82April 9, 2020 11:55 PM

If Tokyo has a huge surge of deaths due to Covid-19, there's a good chance the Olympics will never take place there. Abe tried to hide the numbers when Japan was trying to keep the Olympics and their tepid response may spell disaster for their dense and elderly population.

by Anonymousreply 83April 10, 2020 12:12 AM

Tokyo had the Olympics pulled out from under them once before, this is unfair.

by Anonymousreply 84April 13, 2020 11:15 PM

I think this is simply delightful!

by Anonymousreply 85April 13, 2020 11:19 PM
Well if Japan didn't hate China enough before...

Not as much as we hate them...

by Anonymousreply 86April 14, 2020 6:24 AM

I feel bad for the athletes who are fit to compete this year but will miss out a year later due to some inevitable injuries.

by Anonymousreply 87April 14, 2020 7:06 AM

As well they should be

by Anonymousreply 88April 21, 2020 9:01 PM

I heard they are postponing them again to 2022.

by Anonymousreply 89May 15, 2020 12:07 AM

They may be over forever.

by Anonymousreply 90May 15, 2020 12:26 AM

No, in four years, this think will have burned through the source material.

by Anonymousreply 91May 15, 2020 1:08 AM

Remember when the World's Fair was more important than the Olympics?

by Anonymousreply 92May 23, 2020 2:07 AM

(R81) I am a huge gymnastics fan, too. No, gymnastics will use the current Code of Points for 2021 Olympics. But quite unfairly, the gymnastics powers that be said that girls currently ineligible to compete due to age (too young) can compete next year for a spot at the Olympics. That leaves the current crop of girls at a disadvantage since they will be a year older and somewhat past their prime. Women's gymnastics favors the 15-17 year olds.

It will be difficult to make the USA team with only 4 spots open for the team competition. Specialists can earn a spot if they win World Cup events.

by Anonymousreply 93May 23, 2020 2:12 AM

R93, does that mean Morgan Hurd's chances of making the Olympic team are slimmer? She's the only American gymnast I'm really invested in..

by Anonymousreply 94May 30, 2020 12:53 AM

Who's takin' bets they'll be cancelled for next year?

by Anonymousreply 95June 20, 2020 1:26 AM

R95, I'll be absolutely thrilled!!!!

by Anonymousreply 96June 21, 2020 5:42 AM

What about the trans athletes? They can't wait another year.

by Anonymousreply 97June 27, 2020 1:17 AM
by Anonymousreply 98June 28, 2020 2:54 PM

I have to agree that it's not looking good for 2021.

by Anonymousreply 99June 28, 2020 3:22 PM

If it was in a white country they wouldn't have postponed it.

by Anonymousreply 100July 9, 2020 10:58 AM

Why not sports?
