What are you doing or watching to get your mind off of the pandemic?

I'm about to watch porn.

by Anonymousreply 101April 2, 2020 3:40 PM

Bad horror films, you tube music videos, porn.

by Anonymousreply 1March 22, 2020 7:23 AM

Watching high school wrestling videos and browsing the photos. What a wasted season this has turned into.

Playing Solitaire, with actual cards on my dining table. Staring at my iPad and the tv has fried my brain.

by Anonymousreply 4March 22, 2020 8:27 AM

I'm chanting an anti-coronavirus mantra right now.

[quote]The prayer asks spirits in the earth, air, and those among people to have mercy on humans.

[quote]“To all the spirits, those in the earth, as well as in the air, and those congregating in this place / May all the spirits be kind / Listen to the exultations of the Triratna that I declare with respect,” the prayer begins.

I'm not doing this purposely to get my mind off the pandemic, but it's sort of happening by accident. I'm losing my concept of day and night. I take two or three naps every day and don't sleep a lot at night, and at times I find myself going into a kind of fugue state in which I don't know what day or time it is and nothing outside my consciousness seems real.

At moments, it feels like a very mild version of what prisoners in solitary confinement must experience.

Streaming the greatest rock station in the solar system, Classic Rock Planet (classicrockplanet.com). Rock from the '60s 70s and 80s. Rock on and bop til ya drop!

Fortunately, I'm not near any outbreaks, which I believe are about 200-300 miles away, but that may change. It's life as usual for now. I paint, I read, I watch a movie. When I see a man out on the street with a cart, intoning "Bring out your dead," I'll be a bit more concerned.

by Anonymousreply 11March 22, 2020 10:19 AM

Well, isn't that remarkable, OP? You're about to WATCH porn, and I'm about to MAKE porn!

by Anonymousreply 12March 22, 2020 10:32 AM

I'm watching Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 13March 22, 2020 11:45 AM

Watching mini-series Generation Kill about the taking of Fallujah. Sounds gruesome but lots of humor and lots of GREAT looking USMC guys in silky shorts!

by Anonymousreply 14March 22, 2020 12:20 PM

I'm making sure I take a walk every morning. Where I live I have found a 2.75 mile path through the neighborhood. It's been nice because others seems to be doing the same. Just seeing others out and about - even if everyone is maintaining a distance - has really helped my mind. Walking past one house seeing a woman working in her garden was a comforting bit of normalcy.

Life is continuing, albeit differently right now, but just seeing that has helped my mental state in all this.

by Anonymousreply 15March 22, 2020 12:25 PM

Last night we watched the director's cut of 'Doctor Sleep'. After the credits rolled, I had a terrible stomach-churning moment when I "remembered" the state of things.

Otherwise, walking the dog, doing yoga, reading. I have a lot of spring cleaning and home repairs waiting for whenever the weather turns warmer. Until then, maybe I'll start a journal, though that seems a touch pretentious.

Trying not to die, same as everyone.

by Anonymousreply 16March 22, 2020 12:37 PM

I'm watching the 1978 world gymnastics women's AA. Nadia is competing and I have yet to find out if she wins!

by Anonymousreply 17March 22, 2020 7:15 PM

Most importantly, I've dropped the Coronavirus Freakout thread from my watchlist. While it's important to stay informed every day, basking in constant fear and panic will help no one.

I ordered a Zero-G lounge chair for my balcony. I hardly ever go out there usually. But I figure I'll feel less cooped up if I go outside to read and maybe nap. Also, I might avoid a vitamin D deficiency.

You're lucky, R50 - saw it all too recently to re-watch.

I wouldn't say I ever miss those characters. I like many of them very much. The visiting actors are often especially good.

Elder gay here, recently retired. After contemplating my demise (by virus or not, it's going to happen at some point), I decided I would make things easier on my executor and heirs by organizing and cleaning out file cabinets and labeling what's left. I've also been cleaning out closets and a giant "junk drawer" that odd bits get tossed into. It's been very therapeutic. Yesterday I gathered up about 20 years of miscellaneous power cords, phone cables, transformers, chargers, etc and tossed them.

by Anonymousreply 61March 26, 2020 2:37 AM

r50 My all time fav show of the 00's. It has aged amazingly well, unlike some of the other stuff from the same period.

by Anonymousreply 62March 26, 2020 3:00 AM

r61 Therapeutic as well as very thoughtful of you. Everyone wins!

by Anonymousreply 63March 26, 2020 3:02 AM

Watching Man in the High Castle, not sure why I'm bothering, it's dreck.

by Anonymousreply 64March 26, 2020 1:04 PM

I’m watching Schitt’s Creek from the beginning but I *really* want to watch Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, Celeb Fit Club, The Surreal Life and if it hasn’t been incinerated by the powers that be The Swan!

by Anonymousreply 65March 27, 2020 11:30 AM

I have direct tv and get basic channels but for whatever reason for the last 2 weeks Ive been getting about 30 movie channels as well. They ususally do it every couple months as a promotion but it may be they are doing it now as a customer service for everybody at home.........but anyway I am right now watching once upon a time in hollywood. I saw it last summer but its worth watching again. I am spending alot of time watching cnn and msnbc but in the last few days Ive had enuf. Also watching some netflix

by Anonymousreply 66March 28, 2020 2:01 AM

R61, I'm doing the same thing. Deep uncluttering inside and yard work outside. I'm not rushing through it, though. It looks like I'm going to be holed up in my house for months.

It is easier that I don't have anyone to inherit my stuff, so a lot of heirlooms and family history documents I've saved for years are going straight into the garbage.

Also, I've deactivated or deleted all my social media accounts. DL is the last place I still come to.

I watched Taxi Driver again yesterday for the first time in many years. Unfortunately, I like it less now than I used to. Not as impressed with Jodie Foster's performance as I once was. Ditto Cybill Shepherd. De Niro, though, wow. So hot and so fucking good.

Also started watching Last Picture Show, which I used to think was one of the great ones, and the inconsistencies were so off-putting I turned it off after only a few minutes.

Very up-to-the-minute with Heather Crimstein this go-round, at the intersection of Trumplike wealth, the internet lives of teens, and a kidnapping or two (or not), all taking place in a fictitious Bergen County town.

I’m about 5 years late but I started watching Poldark on Amazon Prime. It’s decent so far, the plot isn’t incredibly gripping or anything but Aidan Turner is beautiful so it’s a pleasant distraction watch.

Everything else I usually love watching I hate now...

by Anonymousreply 81March 29, 2020 10:12 PM

I'm used to the whole working from home thing, as I've worked from home for myself for years. I haven't been on a set schedule in forever, but I do need to get out of my house once in a while for sanity's sake. I miss being able to invite friends over for card game night, hit up the movies with them, or dine out. Also, it kind of sucks having to limit my trips to the grocery store - as I often like to make dinner on a whim, not be forced to use what I've already got on hand for weeks at a time.

I guess the bright side to that though, is not having to deal with all the assholes currently at the stores being rotten to the core mean to one another.

by Anonymousreply 82March 29, 2020 10:14 PM

Watched No Strings Attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher. and catching up on other Amazon Prime movies I have never seen.

Back to speed walking the interior circular street of my condo complex. Expect to be up to 6 miles a day soon. Losing weight although doing a lot more generally healthy cooking. by Anonymousreply 84March 29, 2020 10:38 PM

I’m not really affected by it. I’m retired. I’m on Soc Sec & get Medicare, so I won’t be getting a check from the govt. My husband is a shrink & still goes to his office. He’s essential personnel & people want to see him in person. They’re going stir crazy, they look forward to going out & seeing their shrink. We’re not suffering financially, but my husband lost a lot of seminars he was going to give & a few tv interviews.

I just wish the weather was better. Landscapers are only essential if they’re mowing or cutting brush back to prevent habitant for ticks. Every winter I let my property go to seed, literally. I leave all the dead stuff up for birds to eat or use for cover. I put leaves in my garden. I let the orange pine needles pile up. I don’t have the lawn fertilized till spring. Then in April my landscapers come in, prune everything, rake, sweep, weed, trim, fertilizer, mulch, paint & the place is transformed.

That’s not going to happen this year.

My landscaper was supposed to fix a leak in my shed roof, reshingle the shed roof, paint the shed door he replaced last year, paint the front porch he was supposed to paint last year, paint the fence he was supposed to paint last year & extend my garden beds by 1 foot that he was supposed to do last year.

I’ll probably never see him again. He takes care of huge estates & squeezes us in during a good year because we gave him lots of work when he first started. But he’s going to be backed up for years now.

I’m disabled & my husband works all the time. We’re screwed, landscape-wise.

by Anonymousreply 85March 29, 2020 10:40 PM

oh my god who cares r85 about the fucking landscape ?? People are dying

by Anonymousreply 86March 29, 2020 10:47 PM

Does anyone want me to post a thread for you if you cannot? Post here and I will do it. We used to do this a lot back in the day and it seems like a good time to revive the practice.

by Anonymousreply 87March 29, 2020 11:00 PM

R86 Seriously.

Just find another lansdcaper. Or let it fucking go one season.

Problem solved.

by Anonymousreply 88March 29, 2020 11:25 PM

R85 I hear you. We're half way through a gym-sauna-indoor-pool and guest chalet at our place in Saas-Fee, but they stopped working last week. My neighbors had their Filipino staff smuggled in via private jet and things look tip top over there. I guess we're too low on the totem pole, so probably we'll spend most of the summer in Marbella where we put in low impact green landscaping. But will Spain even be open? Grrrr!

I totally care about my landscaping. My house looks like serial killer central. It gives me anxiety. More anxiety than the virus because we’re both home all the time now, only going out to get essentials. I wash my hands & use sanitizer wipes, follow all precautions.......so I’m not worried about catching the virus.

Watching season 2 of Modus (a Swedish detective series) and A Place to Call Home (an Australian drama series) on PBS.

Yesterday I watched Sense and Sensibility on Showtime for the first time in a couple of decades - and Edward's proposal teared me up just as much as it did the first time around.

Interestingly, Greg Wise is in both S&S (as John Willoughby) and Modus (as a special advisor to the US president).

In Modus, he wears pants tight enough to enable me to really appreciate his ass.
