Nepal has shut their side of the mountain due to the coronavirus which would be deadly in thin air conditions.

by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 14, 2020 1:13 AM |
I thought of our Everest threads as soon as I heard.
Next year will be epic!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 14, 2020 1:18 AM |
It was one of my few joys in life.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 14, 2020 1:25 AM |
I loved those threads and how excited we all got when the rich people started dying. Corona might have killed a few more.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 14, 2020 1:28 AM |
Now I have to search for Everest threads. They sound wonderful!
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 14, 2020 1:31 AM |
I’m paying a dollar ninety nine for this orange name for nothing!!
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 14, 2020 1:51 AM |
I wonder if the Tibetan side will close?

No, they aren't sissies

All the sherpas are off to Australia to study - that's why.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 14, 2020 6:54 AM |
The Sherpas need the coin for their many children, which they start having as teenagers. They'll have to hope that expeditions to other 8000m mountains go ahead. Last year, we had quite a few deaths from peaks surrounding Everest and I was hoping to see this trend continue.

Those bastard quutters.
Garghf these threads rock, bloody virus shit.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 14, 2020 6:55 PM |
The yearly Everest threads are a highlight of my mid year, followed by my local film festival and the Tour De France. Oh well. Stay inside, climbers, stay well and survive for Everest 2021!

Nepal only has 9 cases so they would have been fine. HAPE and HACE their only worries. I don't know if Tibet has closed the North Col route, so we could still have some fun with that.

The rich wypipo would bring corona to impoverished Nepal. Devastating to Ati and his 9 cockfruits.
Have you seen how many jetsetting Hollywood types have the virus?

The Everest adventure consumers are already starting to do "virtual" climbs on their living room stairs and bragging about it on social media. Look for more in May.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 29, 2020 3:28 PM |
I love those thread so much.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 29, 2020 3:49 PM |
Virtual climbs! Pathetic.

R15 to be fair, he raised some money for charity. To be unfair, he looks like a dog at 53yo! He is British if anyone was wondering.

Just to condole ourselves, who were some of the greatest hit idiots of the prior year's threads? I present to you "I'll learn how to do this on the way up," extraordinaire, Shriya Shah-Klorfine.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 2, 2020 1:36 PM |
The first vegan to summit who died of HACE on the way down.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 3, 2020 11:55 AM |
R19, your characterisation made me laugh. Unfortunately this was such a tragic and unnecessary death. I remember that she left behind a couple of very small kids. Why would a mother take such risks is beyond me.

Alan arnette has been writing a fictional blog about Everest climbers - it’s entertaining, and helps fill the void created by there not being any real climbers this year.

R21 is why Datalounge is no fun anymore. POINTLESS BITCHERY is the point, not "think of the children!"
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 5, 2020 1:00 PM |
I’m missing these threads this year. Usually they’d be popping right about now and we’d be placing our bets!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 6, 2020 6:47 PM |
Guess I’ll have to eat all that trail mix.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 6, 2020 6:50 PM |
I hope people die in his fictional blog. Last year we had a bumper crop of 30 deaths - on and around the mountain.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 6, 2020 11:35 PM |
Bump, since somebody pointed out in a newer thread that "there's already a thread."
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 24, 2020 12:28 AM |
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 24, 2020 12:46 AM |
^ Haha!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 24, 2020 1:44 AM |
So 48 Chinese people summited from the northern side this year. Those hoes were measuring the mountain. Not one of the fuckers died though.
Scientists found out that corona doesn't spread at high altitudes so the season didn't need to be cancelled after all.
