Sanders crosses 30%; Buttigieg collapses to sixth

I guess Mayor Pete’s Karens abandoned him.

But Peter was such a nice sissy boy.

by Anonymousreply 1February 18, 2020 10:00 AM

When Bernie loses to Trump in a landslide we can all thank you for helping kill our democracy. Four more years of Trump and there will be no more American experiment; just another authoritarian regime.

by Anonymousreply 2February 18, 2020 10:14 AM

Equally significant is that Bloomberg is now in 2nd on 19% (up 9%) a huge increase before he's even reached the debate stage. With Biden (down 9%) seemingly dead in the water and Pete no more than a flash in the pan that will leave Bernie & Bloomberg to duke it out for the nomination, which is a pretty mighty clash of ideologies. Personally I believe that both are capable of beating Trump, and that, as ever, is the priority here.

by Anonymousreply 3February 18, 2020 10:21 AM

Bernie will probably lose. ..... But I am old enough to remember Reagan. Nobody really thought he would win in 1980. He was an old man, too extreme, to unintelligent. Well obviously he did win and changed everything. So you never can tell.

by Anonymousreply 4February 18, 2020 10:22 AM

Are national polls really relevant? In both the primaries and the general election it's the states that are significant.

by Anonymousreply 5February 18, 2020 10:24 AM

R5 That's true, but they are still a very useful barometer of the overall picture.

by Anonymousreply 6February 18, 2020 10:25 AM

Source: Source: NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll. The most recent data come from a survey of 1,416 U.S. adults conducted Feb. 13-16. This question was asked of 527 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, and the margin of error is 5.4 percentage points. The December survey included candidates who are no longer in the race; they are not shown here. Values for February may not add up to 100% because of rounding.

Whatever.

by Anonymousreply 7February 18, 2020 10:49 AM

Agreed r5, national polls aren't that significant. Besides, both Obama and Bill Clinton were "it'll never happen" candidates when primaries began, so it's far too early to tell.

OP and his ilk are trying to depress enthusiasm and primary turnout.

by Anonymousreply 8February 18, 2020 10:54 AM

Bloomberg will be our next president

by Anonymousreply 9February 18, 2020 10:54 AM

Jeremy Corbyn is a Democratic Socialist.

Bernard came up with the new caucus rules.

He’s going to be wiped out by Trump.

by Anonymousreply 10February 18, 2020 11:00 AM

Agree with R5 and R8

by Anonymousreply 11February 18, 2020 11:09 AM

R9 gets 3 cents every time he posts that.

by Anonymousreply 12February 18, 2020 11:12 AM

I think Sanders is a good candidate . Trump has become boring and predictable in his outrageousness and people are desperately in need of some unpredictability of another flavour. Politics has become entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 13February 18, 2020 11:16 AM

I'm old enough to have worked for the McGovern campaign in 1972. Sanders is McGovern redux. It's such a similar situation -- a crooked president intent on running the president his way, and a left wing opponent who fired up his base. Unfortunately, Nixon beat McGovern and his left wing base in a landslide.

That will happen again with Bernie. I happen to agree with nearly everything Bernie says and wish the rest of the country did too. But they don't. This is not a left-wing country. This is a center country with some left wing views and some right wing views. The center always wins.

Sanders means four more years of Trump.

by Anonymousreply 14February 18, 2020 11:19 AM

We need more Amy!!! Get them Amy. We need you more than ever.

by Anonymousreply 15February 18, 2020 11:21 AM

Here's what Sanders, AOC and the Bernie Bros. have in store for America: If you own anything, a house, a car, furnishings, investments, whatever, it will no longer be yours because they're all symbolic of capitalistic greed. It will be confiscated in the name of the state and redistributed amongst the Politburo, i.e AOC and the Bernie Bros.

The state, in turn, will provide you with a permanent job (digging subway tunnels or canals with a shovel), a one room "flat" in a public housing project, and free education and health care.

by Anonymousreply 16February 18, 2020 11:28 AM

Also, the Bernie Bros. will be renamed the Bolshevist Bros.

by Anonymousreply 17February 18, 2020 11:29 AM

What the poll demonstrates is that about one third of the Democratic electorate want Bernie. But about 70 percent of the Dems want someone else. Until they coalesce around one of the moderate candidates, they will continue to fracture the anti-Bernie vote. A lot will depend on Super Tuesday and what happens in the wake of people losing (like Amy and Pete).

by Anonymousreply 18February 18, 2020 11:50 AM

Sanders = Trump

Sanders' Supporters = Sanders Deplorables

Enough of the SJW/Loser/Twat bullying of Democrats to put this demagogue into place.

And enough of this OP.

by Anonymousreply 19February 18, 2020 11:57 AM

Last two polls were plain wrong, so we'll see

by Anonymousreply 20February 18, 2020 12:01 PM

Sanders: the current version of Corbyn and McGovern

by Anonymousreply 21February 18, 2020 12:04 PM

I will never vote for Bernie Sanders. I just won’t do it.

I will not hold my nose to vote for someone I don’t just think is unable, but who I think is unfit, to do the job.

by Anonymousreply 22February 18, 2020 12:05 PM

I absolutely think Sanders will lose to Trump, though not in a “50 state landslide” as some DLers think. The bright side is that this will be the end of him and we won’t have to deal with his obnoxious supporters anymore.

by Anonymousreply 23February 18, 2020 12:07 PM

"Sanders is the new McGovern" was Hillary's argument in 2016 and SHE LOST. Therefore, the argument is null and void.

by Anonymousreply 24February 18, 2020 12:17 PM

Bernie's supporters will just get in line behind a 2024 AOC bid, R23.

by Anonymousreply 25February 18, 2020 12:17 PM

It’ll be President Pete. And it’ll be the same old shit at its core, but with a handful of progressive and positive tweaks regarding social welfare. Wars, fiat money, consumerism, corporatism etc. will stay put.

The golden days are over and the US is continuing its descent into the third world.

by Anonymousreply 26February 18, 2020 12:19 PM

Amy amy. Always Amy.

by Anonymousreply 27February 18, 2020 12:22 PM

My Karens, My Karens, why have you forsaken me?

by Anonymousreply 28February 18, 2020 12:25 PM

Buttigieg has the lowest name recognition and can't buy recognition like Bloomberg does. National polls aren't relevant.

by Anonymousreply 29February 18, 2020 12:25 PM

Indeed, R27. AMY! AMY! AMY!

Right there with you. Bernie espouses a vision for the country that I wholeheartedly agree with. I've been listening to him for years and years, long before he first ran for president, and I love his rhetoric. But I've come to realize that that's all it is -- he hasn't been able to convince his colleagues to support any of his proposals. That's not going to magically change if he becomes president.

Of course, that's never going to happen -- if he becomes the nominee, and he just might, the Repug attack machine is going to paint him as a communist out to destroy all that America holds dear. And it will work.

by Anonymousreply 32February 18, 2020 12:28 PM

R16 -- Thanks you for postings the truth about the socialist Sanders person who will be able to take all your possessions away because the presidents has all that power to do everything you say the minutes he takes the control of the office of the presidents. You are to be congratulated for knowing that the bad democrats are not patriots and they will on the first day with all their power take your car and your nice computer away too.

by Anonymousreply 36February 18, 2020 12:34 PM

For the first time ever I’ll give my full support to sanders On account of Bloomberg

by Anonymousreply 37February 18, 2020 12:37 PM

Bernie host another massive rally, say 13 thousand people, yesterday. In a way it is very hard to ignore the fire and energy his campaign brings to this race. It's very similar to Trump's 2016 run. That said, I jut don't believe in his motley crews ability to get out to the polls and vote for other non-Bernie supported Democrats. I don't want Bernie to win by a squeaker, just to end up with a larger Republican majority in the Senate. McConnell will destroy Bernie's agenda. Nancy would certainly have to give up her gavel by 2022, because Republicans wont let Bernie get even an inch of progress. Bernie, like Obama post 2008, has no coattails for the rest of the Party.

Bloomberg's coattails are pure hard cash. He will take full control of the DNC, like Trump with the RNC, but instead of raping it's coffers from campaign donations he will just outright buy it. Bloomberg seems like a man that likes to win, so I see him becoming the king maker supporting the Democratic Senate candidates in 2020. Once elected it will be Bloomberg's way or he highway, similar to Trump. Part of that is scary, but another part of that might mean ramming through a few key Democratic objectives. By 2024 the old rich bastard will simply retire.

I'll take four years of Bloomberg slapping McConnell with a wad of cash over four years of gridlock under Bernie, or racist fascism under Trump. So tomorrow will be a big test to see if Bloomberg is a giant or just another Wizard of Oz.

by Anonymousreply 38February 18, 2020 12:38 PM

Bloomberg may make some excuse not to be in the debate.

by Anonymousreply 39February 18, 2020 12:40 PM

It's his right to skip the debate. Seems like a Party for losers as everyone know that no one else on the stage can stop Bernie except Bloomberg. If Bloomberg tanks then the Bernie train will continue to gain momentum until McGovern, er Bernie, takes the nomination. I don't trust that Bernie can pull out a win and take the Senate, but I'm over fighting the passion of my fellow Democrats. That said, I'm leaning towards a Bloomberg vote in the Primary. May the man or woman capable of beating Trump and McConnell win.

by Anonymousreply 40February 18, 2020 12:44 PM

The bias here against Bernie is literally insane. He’s been on our side for decades.

im cuban and i live in miami, and there is ZERO chance that Bernie will get any cuban or hispanic vote here in south florida. they are already claiming that bernie is in favor of maduro and other left wing dictatorships in latin american. there is also a very unpleasant and disgusting and nasty gay cuban maricon called alex otaola that is very popular in the cuban community because in his youtube channel he promotes Trump and talks a lot of shit against the democrats to get ratings but a lot of people follow him.i will vote for bloomberg because of all the candidates he is the only one who realistically have a good chance of winning the elections.

by Anonymousreply 42February 18, 2020 12:53 PM

by Anonymousreply 43February 18, 2020 12:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 45February 18, 2020 12:57 PM

R42 I don’t know how to say this without sounding stupid, but: thanks for sharing. Unlike some OTHER people, I think it’s interesting to hear what different people and communities are thinking. Someone here on DL made a comment about black people who support Trump. He was in a few FB groups for black entrepreneurs/small business owners and noted that they admired Trump. You just never know.

by Anonymousreply 46February 18, 2020 1:10 PM

Pete was never going to win and neither is Sanders. Our whole country is so stupid and so conservative that they voted for the goddamn idiot that is in our White House! Honest to God, Trump is killing our country and many of you support canadates who could never hope to win. You risk our democracy.

by Anonymousreply 47February 18, 2020 1:12 PM

MSNBC and CNN are doing what Fox has been doing: promoting Bernie Sanders. Fox doesn't want a Bloomberg challenge to Bernie. The other two have decided on a Bernie-Bloomberg horserace.

They've managed to ignore and dismiss Buttigieg's strong finishes in Iowa and NH. The black pundits and panelists, bimbo teleprompter readers, and others, including you Kornacki, got your wish. After burning Biden, now they want to give him a mini-spark.

Corporate media executives want Trump. Bernie Sanders will assure it.

by Anonymousreply 48February 18, 2020 1:30 PM

by Anonymousreply 50February 18, 2020 1:44 PM

by Anonymousreply 53February 18, 2020 1:49 PM

by Anonymousreply 54February 18, 2020 1:54 PM

Super Tuesday will be rough for everyone.

by Anonymousreply 55February 18, 2020 1:54 PM

We're gonna end up with a shitty president, be it Trump or Bernie or Biden, and once again Americans will be obliviously dumbfounded as to how they got there. We are a country that loves to shoot ourselves in the foot and then wonder where the bullet hole in our big toe came from.

by Anonymousreply 56February 18, 2020 1:54 PM

Fuck you, R1.

by Anonymousreply 57February 18, 2020 1:58 PM

As a Pete supporter it is really depressing how Bloomberg is slowly bleeding his campaign - even with how strong Pete has done in the first two states. It’s frustrating as hell.

David never had to defeat three Goliaths (Bloomberg, Sanders, Trump) though....

by Anonymousreply 58February 18, 2020 2:07 PM

by Anonymousreply 64February 18, 2020 2:23 PM

We really need some moderates to drop out

by Anonymousreply 65February 18, 2020 2:24 PM

Pete will stick around, but Amy's too smart not to consider her options. She can coast to the VP position if she chooses the right candidate to back.

by Anonymousreply 66February 18, 2020 2:26 PM

None of these national polls mean anything rn, they'll all change after the next two states. If Biden tanks, they'll change, if Biden does well they'll change. Bloomberg will debate tonight which will have impact and the recent vetting and attacks on him may. He's an unk own quantity and it's all in major flux right now.

Look at the VA state poll that just came out. It shows Bernie Biden and Bloomberg in a statistical tie for first. But only 25% said their selections were firm, two weeks from the primary! Everything depends on what happens before it, so the national and later state polls don't mean much at all right now. It's all about Nevada and even more so, SC.

It does seem clear that Liz is in big trouble, and Pete and Amy have not gained enough new support to remain contenders.

by Anonymousreply 67February 18, 2020 2:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 70February 18, 2020 2:36 PM

It must be said it is normal for both Democrats and Republicans to pick someone rich because nobody likes the constant begging for money they get otherwise. But Democrats should know they would be throwing away their best case against Trump if they hire a mirror to him, and that mirroring never worked. (see John Kerry).

Socialist.

You can always tell who's going to win by the enthusiasm of his or her supporters, and Sanders has a ton of enthusiasm around him. Obama and Trump had enthusiasm, too. Hillary had none. Biden has none.

Sanders beat Hillary in most of the midwest states during the primary. He won MI, WI, MN. I think he would do better against Trump in the midwest than people think.

by Anonymousreply 89February 18, 2020 3:43 PM

Bloomberg MUST pick a black woman for VP. Kamala or Stacey, most likely.

by Anonymousreply 90February 18, 2020 3:43 PM

Hopefully Kamala. She's biracial not 100 % black. She is very accomplished. She also has never lost an election like Abrams has. However Abrams didn't fuck her way to the top like Kamala has either!

by Anonymousreply 91February 18, 2020 3:52 PM

R91, Kamala is black and brown.

by Anonymousreply 92February 18, 2020 3:53 PM

if Pete collapses, I'm 100% for Bloomberg. He is a fighter with realistic ideas that can get done, not this pie in the sky bullshit that Americans would benefit from but will be told minute by minute in every media outlet that they're going to suffer financially because of Sanders (and they may be right). A Sanders presidency would collapse even faster -- no rallying support for his policies which means they get nowhere and a drip drip drip of negative coverage in all media. He'll lose the congress in the first two years and you'll be back to square one. Or worse, Trump gets re-elected and the American experiment blows up in our face.

by Anonymousreply 93February 18, 2020 3:57 PM

Stacey is already bought by Bloomberg. He donated $5 million to her PAC and she’s been defending him ever since. Personally, I don’t get the hype around her. People act like she has some moral authority over the Democratic Party but in reality she’s just another money hungry corporate dem. People gave Beto shit for running for president after losing but Stacey has been jumping up and down waving her arms to be VP yet she doesn’t get the same criticism. Plus, her record is sketchy. I’m tired of hearing about that woman.

by Anonymousreply 94February 18, 2020 4:00 PM

Bernie isn't an actual socialist though..not that I am for him but lets be honest. He is a socialist in the vein of the UK or Sweden

by Anonymousreply 95February 18, 2020 4:08 PM

R94 Her just now saying she’d like the VP is not even remotely the same as Beto IMMEDIATELY (hell, almost concurrently!) running for President after the Senate loss. Plus, she’s been working on other very important things (hello voting rights). What’s Beto been up to other than Twittering?

by Anonymousreply 96February 18, 2020 4:12 PM

R96, Beto running was obviously a mistake but since dropping out he’s been working to turn the Texas state house blue. He’s been working hard.

by Anonymousreply 97February 18, 2020 4:22 PM

Elizabeth Warren's collapse is complete.

by Anonymousreply 98February 18, 2020 4:24 PM

Voting for anyone Klobuchar's age or older is like voting for a steam-engine-era candidate at the dawn of the automobile age.

None of those older candidates is a tech native, and none of them has a vision of the future with the gig economy, artificial intelligence, non-fossil-fuel-based energy, and the information age.

The best any of them can hope to be is like an efficient school board president who can manage current disasters well enough to keep his job, but not well enough to prevent future ones or solve the problems that cause them.

And none of them will unify any of the country. Bernie, Biden, Bloomberg, Klobuchar, and Warren will make the Obama-Congress relationship look like a love affair.

We need a president for the next century, not the last one.

by Anonymousreply 99February 18, 2020 4:25 PM

[quote]Bloomberg MUST pick a black woman for VP. Kamala or Stacey, most likely.

I wouldn't count on MUST playing a prominent part in Bloomberg's world.

First, his whole life. Second, there'll be a bit of swagger if he barnstormed the process and walked away with it in the end. He will pick exactly who he likes. I'm not a betting man but very happy to wager DL won't be happy.

JFC, even Pakistan has had a woman president. We are so behind in every GD way. Just heard a report on the Daily, only 14% of American adults can distinguish fact from opinion! Only 1/3 of our graduates are reading at level!

A nation of fucking idiots.

I was all for Bernie in 2016. However his sexist campaign and terrible supporters have turned me off. He also seems to just talk the talk and not be able to gain traction and make change. I want M4A and education for all.. but I don't think he knows how to do it. Warren's plans much more fleshed out and workable. Fuck him and his supporters for pushing her out!

I sincerely hope it's not that racist cunt Bloomberg winning the nom.

If I’m not mistaken r58 the town folks wanted to get rid of the giant. No one asked for a small town mayor to join this race.

We want a fighter. People like Bernie because he has been fightBig for progressive policies since day one in office. People are also warming to Bloomberg because name ID and the fact that he’s been the one person capable of using the media to fight back against Trump with his ads.

Warren flopped because she couldn’t stick to a position and seemed weak in the end. Biden couldn’t beat Trump in the Ukraine narrative. People want a fighter, even a dirty one. Dems are out for blood. Why do you think this primary has been a shit show? Everyone has over 3 years of pent up rage. Bloomberg and Bernie understand that fact. Pete doesn’t have the resources to compete.

Pete is young and can try again in 2024.

Humans are not evolved enough to understand socialism.

by Anonymousreply 116February 18, 2020 5:00 PM

Bernie isn't the cuddly FDR kind of socialist people claim he is. He's a lapsed tankie. He's the kind of guy who praised the socialist state for creating beautiful subways for the public, with no care about all the people injured or killed while being forced to work hard labor. But then he realized that wouldn't get him anywhere in American politics, so he dropped his socialist authoritarian leanings to make himself more palatable to the Middle American public. Who even knows what he stands for nowadays, after the four years of screaming about M4A which was just shrugged off last week by AOC and others saying "eh who cares, Congress won't pass it anyway."

by Anonymousreply 117February 18, 2020 5:01 PM

That’s so patently absurd. Sanders will win all the Hillary states at a minimum. No blue state is going to flip to red because of Sanders. A better case could be made that some Democrats will stay home if it’s a no-win Bloomberg vs. Trump matchup, giving Trump the victory.

I can tell that Bloomberg is gaining traction because I've seen several different deplorable acquaintances sharing anti-Bloomberg posts the last few days. He seems to be replacing Biden on that front.

by Anonymousreply 123February 18, 2020 5:53 PM

I will NOT vote for Bloomberg if the powers that be select him as our Democratic nominee

Like, it just ain't gonna happen. I'll vote for Biden, Buttitsagig, Klobuchar - hell, I'll vote for fucking Steyer, but I'm not voting for Bloomberg. The levels of shit (that are completely verifiable by virtue of the fact that most of it he has been caught on tape and video saying within the last decade) is unfuckingbelievab - le. I cannot comprehend how anyone in the Democratic Party (or the Independent, for that matter) can justify this man's words, behavior and actions.

He is no better than Trump and there is nothing you can say that will convince me otherwise. He wears his mask better and tighter, I'll give him that, but he is an elitist, racist, homophone (especially, if as rumored, "he's in the closet") and I don't trust his ass. From extending his stay as Mayor of New York to a third term (hello Maduro in Venezuela!) to banning soda (Communism/Authoritarianism) to all of the vile things that have come out of his puny, decrepit mouth, this man is what is wrong with the establishment personified.

Yesterday I was conversing with a Dem and a Rep and in a moment of intense rage I actually said, "I'll vote for fucking Donald Trump if Bloomberg is forced on us!" I couldn't fucking believe that came out. I was shocked and disgusted by what I had fleetingly entertained. I won't go that far but I will not vote.

Years of smearing Senator Bernie Sanders for some of the craziest off-the-wall lies I've ever read, and you expect us to even entertain this douche bag?

It ain't happening.

by Anonymousreply 124February 18, 2020 5:56 PM

I'm not sucking the dick of an equally racist, sexist, elitist, bigoted asshole like Bloomberg because he changed the "R" next to his name to a "D". It ain't happening, toots. And I'm one of MILLIONS that feel the same.

His foreign policy, in particular, is far more detailed than anything Buttigieg or Klobuchar have come up with. I actually prefer Elizabeth Warren, but all of these comments about Bernie being a "socialist authoritarian" etc. etc. just show your ignorance more than anything else.

In the meantime, I would like to point out that everyone else knows exactly what I meant: that, like all politicians, what Bernie says doesn't necessarily reflect what he stands for. He'll argue for years about M4A being the most important thing in his platform, but the minute a union shows concern about losing their own hard-earned, negotiated health care, suddenly Bernie is sending out his surrogates to say "don't worry, M4A won't even pass Congress, just chill."

And don't act like you know anything about socialism if you don't even know what a tankie is, and stop acting like a know-it-all if you don't even realize that Bernie's old comments about the Moscow subway station have been making the news lately.

The point of electing him isn't to get M4A passed; it's to have a REAL President of and for the people who will speak truth to power from within the highest office of the land and THAT, my dear, is what the establishment is afraid of. They know very well most of Senator Sanders policies will be blocked, though he has many he can and will executive order. by Anonymousreply 151February 18, 2020 9:01 PM

These percentages don’t mean much now, as long as most opponents quit before Super Tuesday. Bernie’s opponents are splitting up the non-Bernie vote. Suppose Buttigieg and Biden quit after Nevada. Bloomberg will get 80% of those voters, putting him in the lead to sweep Super Tuesday.

If the field does not thin before Super Tuesday, that could really screw-up the delegate awards as opposed to the voters choice.

the most disturbing thing about Bernie fans is that they good news every little piece of information they can find. they dont worry that Americans might not feel the exact same way they do (or that Bernie isn't at risk of being horribly damaged, even unfairly, due to past comments, positions, or alliances). my argument against Bernie is that hes done a lousy job reframing issues in order to appeal to moderate and swing voters. He doesnt care about that. It's almost Biden like. Show me a progressive issue, i can reframe it to appeal to concerned white male taxpayers. Bernie doesn't really do that. There is an art to politics and I'm not enthusiastic about what I've seen from him in terms of selling up as down.

Bloomberg also takes medicine to control his cholesterol, in addition to a beta-blocker. The poll, conducted by the Change Research for the Democratic group The Welcome Party, shows Biden and Sanders knotted at 23 percent support each in the Palmetto State. Meanwhile, Steyer is running in second place at 20 percent.

Only one other candidate, former South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg, registered in double digits in the poll, with 15 percent support.

I love how the Warren supporters are crying about her lack of media attention when Pete is actually winning and they are ignoring it. And for the record I don't believe it's about him being gay. It's just that the media and the pundit class have decided that Pete is too young and inexperienced, while in the last election they went all in for a carnival sideshow freak who had never held an elected office in his life. Media bias is real. Just like Joe Biden is too old, while never mentioned Bernie's age or heart issues.

As for Warren, we all know that she did herself in. Why do smart people listen to jacked up advisers who always, always lead them down the wrong path?

R196, if Bloomberg is the Democratic nominee, it doesn't matter if Trump wins. We will have a choice between two Republicans and the American experiment is over. When other countries have elections with no alternative to the ruling party, we call it a rigged system, an authoritarian system, a failure of small-d democracy.

[quote] We will have a choice between two Republicans and the American experiment is over.

That’s such an easy accusation to toss out — and one that people love to use here repeatedly — without one shred of evidence to back it up. Explain, please, exactly which polices that he is advocating and running on that are Rethuglican policies? Immigration? Health care? Climate change? Guns? LGBTQ civil rights? Raising the minimum wage and pay equity? Tax policy? The environment? Women’s reproductive rights? I’ve searched through the plans for his administration, which are linked below. I’m hard-pressed to find Repuke policies in what he wants to do. His policies are squarely in line with those advocated by all the Democratic candidates.

But please, feel free to enlighten the rest of us.

R205, His record is as a republican. His "policies" are meaningless.

[quote] His "policies" are meaningless.

🙄 As expected. No real answer.

by Anonymousreply 207February 19, 2020 2:39 PM

R207, Newsflash: They're ALL running on the same policies. It's his record that,'s important here.

[quote]I love how the Warren supporters are crying about her lack of media attention when Pete is actually winning and they are ignoring it.

The two things are completely unrelated.

Warren is being left out of polls, being left off of graphics on the news, and in one case her picture was replaced with Klobuchar's. It's not an accident, no more than all the times "Obama" was misspelled as "Osama."

The same thing happened to Pete once at least so you'd think you'd at least understand that it's a big problem. This shouldn't be about who you like, you should care that the media is hiding a candidate. You shouldn't want the media to do this to ANY candidate.

Echo chamber. The candidate has a vision...unless they instruct staff tell me what you and mean it... they just hear what they want to hear.

Newsflash: I know.

[quote] His policies are squarely in line with those advocated by all the Democratic candidates.

Examples then of this Republican record. And, he’s already apologized for and acknowledged the error of stop-and-frisk.

[quote] His record is as a republican. His "policies" are meaningless.

Bloomberg is not my first choice, he’s not even my second or third, but if you want to talk about party affiliations let’s remember that Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. As a matter fact, in this year’s election he’s running as both a Democrat (for President) and an Independent (for Senate).

Please pardon me for thinking the “he’s not a real Democrat” argument to be weak at best, at least when coming from Sanders supporters, which I think likely.

by Anonymousreply 212February 19, 2020 3:11 PM

Bloomberg was giving money to multiple Republican candidates for office (and not moderate ones either) as recently as 2018.

Bernie may not be a Democrat, but he hasn't been actively supporting a party that's implacably opposed to the Democrats, either.

by Anonymousreply 213February 19, 2020 3:51 PM

No argument there, R212. Neither Bernie nor Bloomberg are Democrats. That's why Democrats will lose if either of them are the nominee. They will each have a base of support, something like Trump's base of hard-core supporters. But no one else will vote for them, unlike Republicans, who rallied around Trump despite his repugnance.

Republicans like power above all else, hence the reason so many moralistic born-again Christians found a way to embrace a pussy grabber. Democrats like purity, hence we will vilify someone we agree with on 90 percent of the issues, because, say, like Bloomberg, he's a racist, or like Bernie, is good at complaining, but hasn't ever accomplished much.

by Anonymousreply 214February 19, 2020 3:54 PM

[quote]But no one else will vote for them

This is empirically false. Polls consistently show Bernie defeating Trump in head-to-head polling, and the more recent polls show Bloomberg would beat Trump too. Obviously, right now, Democrats are perfectly willing to support Sanders, even those not currently in his base.

by Anonymousreply 215February 19, 2020 4:07 PM

R215, those polls are national polls, which are generally meaningless, because blue states like NY and California count as they would without the Electoral College.

And those polls don't give purple swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, et al. the power they have because of the Electoral College.

WSJ: Bloomberg Bankrolls a Social-Media Army to Push Message

Campaign is hiring workers for $2,500 per month to promote Bloomberg to all their contacts.

They have to text people in their contacts once a week and post on social media daily.

When Sanders beats Trump, it's going to kill the Hillary fanatics to see him achieve what she couldn't do. It may kill Hillary herself.

Liz just seems frantic to me.
