Who else is kinda disappointed that this Cornonavirus hasn't become a World War Z type of pandemic.... yet?

by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 18, 2020 2:19 AM |
Certainly the results in China have been extremely disappointing. And no spread to other places needing climate-protective population reduction.
A mere decrease of about five billion would be such a positive thing. Especially if taken from the appropriate places. And not fast enough to lose control of nuclear weaponry, power plants, agriculture, and other things we wouldn't want to be collateral sources of mess.
But noooooooo. Another let-down. At least the slowdown will bump up again when the Chinese start moving about again. But it won't be enough for anything except another reason for the insane Red Oligarchy to slice more humanity from their drones.
And Russia really needs something to hit the Party.

by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 18, 2020 2:26 AM |
Don't worry op it's coming soon to a city near you. The us health department spoke that it will last through the end of next year. We will see how excited you are then.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 18, 2020 2:26 AM |
You could always try to infect yourself, OP. Just take a flight to one of the cities with infected people in the US and walk into the right hospital ward and kiss each patient on the mouth.

The major problem area is Africa, where they mainly produce more people, but not goods and services. At least in China, those who survive will continue making the goods we need since we don't produce most of them anymore in the US.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 18, 2020 2:48 AM |

The big one will come from Africa. The population is exploding and encroaching into the wilderness Bush meat is huge. Governments are ill-equipped to deal with a highly contagious pathogen. Expect something truly devastating. It'll make Ebola look like a cold.

It needs to emerge from somewhere isolated, and become fatal only after developing the ability to spread quickly. Play Plague Inc. and you'll see.

A US Twitter account posts stats about the coronavirus several times daily, she swears she's not into promoting fear and alarm, but her numbers are for the world, leaving out that over 98% of confirmed cases are still in China, more people are recovering than dying outside China.
Accounts like hers remind me Americans freak out about the wrong things. Still more likely that the common flu or bullets will fell an American, especially Americans not in large cities.
My city has more than half my country's total coronavirus sufferers, but I'm not at all worried.

You guys remember the charts in Contagion and Outbreak? "This is the US after 24h, this after 48h....". So the Corona virus is really disappointing far. More than 2 months and only 70k cases world-wide and mostly in China.
I have to admit I was hoping the virus would really crush the world economy and particularly the US economy. I dont want anyone to die. People should just get sick for a couple of weeks, unable to work, and then make a full recovery, but bad enough to tank the economy and Trump's re-election chances.

^What if a pandemic exposes Trump as the weak leader he really is, unable to lead the country in a national crisis. Defunding the CDC over the last 3 years and using the money to build a ridiculous wall would not look good on his record when millions of Americans are sick.

Unfortunately this coronavirus has a low mortality rate, so there will be no global pandemic. Maybe it will mutate into something far more lethal.
I believe in returning the planet back to the non human animals/flora/fauna that inhabit it.

The Spanish Flu killed millions of people. Corona so far less than 2000 after 2-3 months. So far it is still disappointing and I actually wasted some $$$ on masks and beans.
I think people are worried that the virus and the Chinese lock down could potentially start affecting the supply chains and crash the stock markets, but unless other parts of the world are affected, I doubt it will be 1928/29 soon.

A part of me really longs for chaos and won't mind if it takes me out too. I think human population needs to be drastically reduced. But I really hate to see people suffering so I'd rather have it happen by a decrease in birthrate than a catastrophic event killing people.
Some studies have suggested that coronavirus infections could lead to male infertility. If the death rate goes down and transmission rate goes up, this could be a good way of reducing our population.

I remember seeing Swine Flu progress like this in 2009 and eventually it was declared in the UK to be 'in the community' and people just got on with it and didn't bother quarantining. It killed some old people and some ill people, like this is, and then it died out.

I don’t remember what year it was, but it was during the West Nile virus scare in NYC. At a restaurant bar with my boyfriend, we met an elderly epidemiologist with NYU and asked him how bad it might get. He was happy to talk about it, predicting doom and gloom. This virus was going to have a huge impact because it was spread by mosquitos, and the city’s insecticide-fogging was insufficient and there weren’t enough hospital beds to accommodate all the sick and dying, etc.
We all survived.

[QUOTE] going the hydrogen peroxide route myself. Buying up a lot of it (the regular stuff you get at the drug store), and mixing it 50/50 with distilled water to put in multiple spray bottles to wipe down my home surfaces, work cube and environment, etc. Am trying to find some clean 'handiwipes' to purchase - just dry untreated wipes, with nothing on them - so I can soak them in this HP mixture to create my own sanitizing wipes to carry in a ziploc with me when I'm out doing things. It's the fear of being one of the few who has to die from this. All this mass hysteria is based on fear instead of being positive and keep your body immune system up to fight the virus and help those who have a weakened immune system by default (the elderly, HIV positive people or the ones living with AIDS, people with pre-existing lung problems).
The real heroes in this are the hospital staff and the supermarket staff (and the guys who deliver all the food to the supermarkets) all around the world.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | March 23, 2020 11:16 AM |
Only 14,000 deaths worldwide so far, R99. How many of these old and sickly people would have died on their own during these last few months anyway? And how many people have been saved now from the decrease of car accidents and air pollution?
As far as pandemics go, it's a very underwhelming one.
